Why did the second female lead cry so bitterly late at night in Chapter 16?

From afar, a shout suddenly came from the director's crew: "Can we film or not? If we can't, then leave!"

The roar was like a boulder thrown into a calm lake, instantly creating ripples. Immediately following, a woman's sobs echoed from the direction of the filming location, filled with grievance, helplessness, and deep frustration, reverberating in the silent studio. Then, a woman dressed in a light blue ancient costume ran away hastily, tears streaming down her face, soaking her delicate makeup.

Sitting in front of the monitor, Ye Lu was overwhelmed by a sense of defeat. Like a defeated rooster, he slumped in his small chair, his eyes vacant, silent. On the monitor, the lead actors and extras had been keeping him company for hours, but they still hadn't managed to film a single complete scene.

"Let's eat, Director. Come and have a bowl of wontons before you get back to work. It's almost seven o'clock, everyone's hungry." Su Yingxue carried a steaming bowl of wontons and walked over with light steps. Her smile was like the warm winter sun, trying to dispel the gloom that permeated the film set.

Looking at Su Yingxue's concerned smile and glancing at the listless faces of everyone on the monitor, Ye Lu felt a pang of self-reproach. He realized he had been far too hasty. "Alright, let them have their food!" he finally nodded.

Taking the wontons, Ye Lu looked at the listless state of the staff around him and knew that his earlier outburst had affected everyone. As soon as he put the wontons in his mouth, the delicious taste exploded on his tongue, like a warm current slowly flowing through his heart, gradually calming his restless mind.

"Was the filming too rushed today? That Fei Fei just now... sigh... it's all the fault of the investors, so troublesome!" Ye Lu complained as he ate his wontons.

The staff around were also whispering among themselves:

"What did that newcomer film?"

"It infuriated the director. They've probably done it ten times already!"

"Shh, didn't you see that Mei Ruoguo and Shen Yu have already performed this scene three times? This part is not easy to act."

"The director had no choice; I heard the actors were brought in by the investors and hadn't even graduated yet."

"You can act in movies without graduating? You don't go to school? That's amazing."

"Others have powerful connections, unlike us..."

Su Yingxue was standing behind the extras and heard all the whispers. A pang of pity rose in her heart as she watched the young girl run away crying, wondering if she would be hurt or something bad would happen to her. She told Qingqing to go get the food first, while she followed the path behind the palace bamboo grove to catch up with the girl in green.

The bamboo groves around the palace were winding and secluded, like a giant maze. Su Yingxue searched everywhere but couldn't find any trace of the girl. At that moment, the rain intensified, and the oil-paper umbrella in her hand swayed precariously in the wind and rain, as if it would be blown over at any moment. She couldn't help but find herself somewhat ridiculous; she was just a cook, what right did she have to meddle in other people's affairs? But the worry in her heart still drove her to continue searching.

Finally, in a secluded palace behind the filming location, Su Yingxue found the girl in blue. Ye Feifei was squatting there, her body trembling slightly, her face streaked with tears.

"Sister Su, what brings you here?" Ye Feifei suddenly noticed that the rain ahead seemed to have stopped. Upon closer inspection, she realized that it wasn't that the rain had stopped, but rather that Su Yingxue was using an umbrella to shield her from the rain.

"I saw you were in a bad mood, so I came to check on you." Before leaving, Su Yingxue had specially brought a scallion pancake, which was carefully wrapped in oil paper. Now, when she took it out, the scallion pancake was still slightly warm.

"Eat something, and you won't feel so bad." Su Yingxue handed the scallion pancake to Ye Feifei.

Ye Feifei shook her head, tears still wet on her face. "Sister Su, am I really that bad? I was great when filming solo scenes, but when it comes to rehearsing with other actors, I just don't get it right. I just can't keep up. And I can't even remember my lines."

"Do you know who I acted with when I first started out?" Seeing that she wasn't eating, Su Yingxue sat down next to her and put away her umbrella. The two sat at the entrance of the palace, and Su Yingxue slowly began to recount her story. "Hehe, you'd never guess, I acted with Actor Liu. I played a little girl who begged from him."

"And then what?" Ye Feifei's eyes flashed with curiosity. She hadn't expected Su Yingxue to have such an experience.

"I did that scene twenty times, and the director yelled at me like crazy. I wanted to find a pillar and kill myself. Maybe if I killed myself, it wouldn't be so painful." Su Yingxue crossed her arms, squatted on the ground, her eyes sparkling as she reminisced about the past.

"And then?" Ye Feifei pressed.

"A movie star, what would it be like if you acted alongside him?" Su Yingxue asked Ye Feifei.

A hint of fear appeared on Ye Feifei's youthful face. She thought for a moment, then shook her head: "I'm definitely worse than you were back then!"

"I repeated it twenty-one times, then went out and ate a bowl of beef noodles. When I came back, I was fine. Isn't that amazing? It was over in no time." Su Yingxue continued with a smile, "That bowl of beef noodles was so delicious. Lots of beef, spicy and flavorful, and the noodles were chewy and smooth. Absolutely amazing."

"Sister Su, I thought you came here to teach me how to act, but it turned into you talking about how delicious beef noodles are?" Ye Feifei was amused by Su Yingxue's words and burst into laughter through her tears, her sadness vanishing without a trace.

"I can't act now, all I can do is cook. Are you going to eat this? If you don't eat it soon, the scallion pancake will get cold and won't be crispy anymore." Su Yingxue handed the scallion pancake to Ye Feifei.

"If I eat this scallion pancake, will I be able to act well?" Ye Feifei looked at Su Yingxue, her eyes filled with hope.

"The Su family's scallion pancakes are absolutely amazing; they'll make your acting skills even better," Su Yingxue said seriously.

Ye Feifei couldn't help but laugh at Su Yingxue's earnest and funny expression. She took the scallion pancake, took a big bite, and chewed it slowly. The aroma of scallions and dough filled her mouth, seemingly infusing her with boundless energy on this rainy night.

"Sister Su, your pancakes are so delicious." As Ye Feifei ate, tears welled up in her eyes again, but this time they weren't tears of sadness. "My mom used to make scallion pancakes for me when I was little. They were so fragrant."

Su Yingxue listened quietly without saying a word, simply keeping her company in silence.

quite a while

Ye Feifei looked closely at Su Yingxue and noticed that she was almost squinting with sleep. "Sister Su, Sister Su," Ye Feifei called softly.

Ye Feifei looked at the drowsy Su Yingxue, feeling both amused and annoyed: "Weren't you here to comfort me? Why are you asleep?"
