Chapter 166 Peppa Pig's Rice Balls
That night, Ms. Wang lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. She opened her phone and poured out her troubles in the neighborhood group chat. To her surprise, as soon as she sent the message, many parents left her messages, recommending that she take Lele to try out the Tongxin Kindergarten next door.
"Sister Wang, you can take Lele to Tongxin Kindergarten. Aunt Su Yingxue there makes delicious food, all shaped like animals. My child used to be a picky eater, but now he looks forward to going to kindergarten for meals every day."
"Yes, Tongxin Kindergarten is famous for its animal-themed meals. My child even tells me about animals when he gets home. You should try it."
"I heard that the rice balls that Tongxin Kindergarten made last time were really pretty and delicious. My child wanted to eat them again when we got home."
Seeing the messages from other parents in the community, Ms. Wang felt a glimmer of hope. She opened her phone and searched for information about Tongxin Kindergarten, where she saw many videos and photos of her children eating lunch shared by other parents.
In the video from Tongxin Kindergarten, many children are seen eating with great relish, their faces beaming with happy smiles.
Ms. Wang hesitated for a moment. She had heard of Tongxin Kindergarten before, knowing it was an old, affordable kindergarten with facilities far inferior to Xingchen Kindergarten. But now, for the sake of Lele eating well, she could only give it a try.
The next morning, Ms. Wang brought Lele to Tongxin Kindergarten. Compared to the luxurious Xingchen Kindergarten, Tongxin Kindergarten seemed rather shabby. The rusty iron gate, the mottled walls, and the peeling paint on the swing in the yard all exuded an air of antiquity.
Fortunately, it was very clean, and although the equipment was old, it was well-preserved. It's clear this is a well-established kindergarten. The place was filled with the children's traces.
When Lele saw the environment, her face fell immediately. She tugged at Ms. Wang's clothes and said, "Mom, I don't want to go to school here. It's so dilapidated."
Ms. Wang squatted down and patted Lele's head: "Lele, let's try it for one day, okay? If it doesn't taste good, we'll leave."
Just then, Director Pan came out. He was wearing a simple blue shirt, his hair was neatly combed, and he had a gentle smile on his face: "Ms. Wang, Lele, you've arrived."
Ms. Wang quickly went to greet her: "Director Pan, hello."
"Please come in," Principal Pan warmly welcomed them into the classroom.
Although the classroom facilities were simple, it was decorated very warmly. Children's drawings were pasted on the walls, colorful balloon decorations hung on the windows, and various toys were placed in the corners. When the children saw Lele, they curiously gathered around and greeted him enthusiastically.
Lele was a little shy and hid behind Ms. Wang, secretly observing everything around her.
Not long after, light footsteps approached, and Su Yingxue pushed a food cart into the classroom. She wore a light blue apron embroidered with a small rabbit, and her bright smile illuminated the entire classroom like a ray of sunshine.
"Children, lunch is ready!" Su Yingxue said with a smile.
As soon as the food cart lid opened, a cheer erupted. Ms. Wang curiously peered over and saw that each food container contained a pink Peppa Pig rice ball, dyed with dragon fruit juice—a lovely, delicate pink. Peppa's ears were made of fresh strawberry slices, her eyes were two shiny black sesame seeds, and her nose was a small piece of red dragon fruit. Next to her were several florets of broccoli, shaped like Peppa's little house, and a few cherry tomatoes, like little red lanterns.
"Wow! It's Peppa Pig!" Lele's eyes lit up immediately. He stepped out from behind Ms. Wang and walked towards the food cart involuntarily.
This was the first time Lele had shown interest in the kindergarten's food, which surprised and delighted Ms. Wang.
Su Yingxue noticed Lele, and she walked over with a smile, squatted down, and looked Lele in the eye: "You must be Lele? Welcome to Tongxin Kindergarten."
Lele nodded, her big eyes fixed on the Peppa Pig rice ball, and whispered, "Auntie, this Peppa Pig is so cute."
“Yes,” Su Yingxue said with a smile, “These are Peppa Pig rice balls. Peppa is a very cute little pig. She loves to jump in mud puddles with George. And Peppa especially loves to eat vegetables. Look, her little house is made of broccoli.”
Lele looked in the direction Su Yingxue pointed and saw the few lush green broccoli florets. His little brows furrowed slightly, clearly still somewhat resistant.
Su Yingxue saw through Lele's thoughts. She picked up a broccoli and said softly, "Lele, do you know? Peppa said that if you eat broccoli, you'll grow tall and strong, and you can jump happily in mud puddles with your friends just like her. Do you want to try Peppa's little house? Just a little bite, okay?"
Lele hesitated for a moment, glancing at his mother and then at Su Yingxue. Ms. Wang looked at him encouragingly from the side: "Lele, give it a try, it might be delicious."
Ms. Wang responded to Su Yingxue with a smile: "Our Lele has loved watching Peppa Pig since he was little. He even gave himself a name when he was little. He told us to call him Peppa. He wouldn't respond when we called him Lele."
Lele nodded, picked up her spoon, carefully took a piece of broccoli, put it in her mouth, and chewed it slowly.
Ms. Wang's heart started racing. She looked at Lele nervously, afraid that he would throw up.
Unexpectedly, Lele chewed it, swallowed it, and nodded, "This little tree is quite delicious."
Ms. Wang could hardly believe her eyes; her eyes welled up with tears. This was the first time Lele had ever eaten vegetables on her own initiative, and she even said they were delicious!
Su Yingxue smiled and patted Lele's head: "Right? Broccoli is delicious, rich in vitamins, and eating it can boost your immunity and make you less likely to get sick."
Lele picked up another piece of broccoli and ate it in big bites. Then she picked up a Peppa Pig rice ball and nibbled on it, a satisfied smile on her face.
Ms. Wang was overwhelmed with emotion as she watched her son eat. She tightly grasped Director Pan's hand, saying, "Director Pan, thank you so much! Thank you so much!"
Director Pan smiled and said, "Ms. Wang, you're too kind. It's all thanks to Yingxue."
Su Yingxue smiled shyly: "Ms. Wang, please don't be shy. I'm very satisfied to see the children enjoying their meal."
She had learned about Lele beforehand; he loved Peppa Pig. So she was gradually guiding him. Unexpectedly, he really enjoyed the meal.
That noon, Lele ate every last drop of food in her lunchbox, not even a drop of soup. When picking her up in the afternoon, Lele held Ms. Wang's hand excitedly and said, "Mommy, the food at Tongxin Kindergarten is so delicious! I want to come here again tomorrow!"
Ms. Wang smiled and nodded: "Okay, we'll go to school here from now on."
