Chapter 148 Delivering Takeout
Su Yingxue smiled and waved her hand, "It's just a small business, relying on repeat customers. We can't compare to those big stalls at the night market."
Her gaze inadvertently swept over the keys Wang Zhiqiang had placed on the table, then quickly shifted away, and she asked casually, "Brother Wang, you live around here?"
“Yes, that building up ahead,” Wang Zhiqiang replied casually, pointing to the residential area not far away.
Su Yingxue nodded in sudden realization, but her mind was racing with thoughts.
She used tongs to pick up several skewers of grilled butter, neatly arranged them on a plate, and pushed them in front of Wang Zhiqiang: "Here, try these, they're new butter skewers, my cousin says they're especially fragrant."
Lin Xiaoman was in the kitchen, listening to the conversation outside, her palms sweating profusely.
She took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down, and began silently setting out the tableware. Through the gap in the kitchen curtain, she could vaguely see Wang Zhiqiang's figure, and she kept repeating to herself: Stay calm, stay calm, proceed according to plan...
"Brother Wang, what do you like to eat? I'll cook for you next time," Su Yingxue said with a smile.
"Hehe." Wang Zhiqiang enjoyed the beautiful woman's flattery. "Make whatever you like, it'll taste good."
Wang Zhiqiang was amused by Su Yingxue's enthusiastic greeting. He rubbed his hands together, his eyes narrowed into slits, revealing a set of stained teeth: "Hehe, Brother Wang loves these kebabs! Especially your beef kebabs!"
"His mouth was stuffed full, and he mumbled, "The heat, the seasoning, it's amazing! And the butter too."
He gave a thumbs up, "Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with an irresistible milky aroma—I've never tasted such fragrant butter in my entire life!"
Su Yingxue smiled and added a few more skewers of freshly grilled beef to Wang Zhiqiang's plate. Oil droplets dripped from the skewers onto the charcoal fire, splashing up a few small sparks.
As she turned the food on the grill, she casually glanced at Wang Zhiqiang.
"Hehe." Wang Zhiqiang squinted his eyes with satisfaction and stuffed another bite of the perfectly grilled beef skewer into his mouth. The meat was tender and juicy, and the spices on the outside just brought out the deliciousness of the meat, making him unable to resist closing his eyes to savor it.
This tastes more authentic than any restaurant he can remember.
He couldn't wait to take another bite of the butter. The crispy crust cracked between his teeth, and the melted butter, mixed with the sweet aroma of honey and the fragrance of sesame, exploded in his mouth. The rich milky aroma made him shudder.
"Wow!" he sighed with satisfaction, "I'm truly impressed by your cooking skills!"
Su Yingxue skillfully flipped the food while observing Wang Zhiqiang's reaction. Seeing his blissful expression, she secretly breathed a sigh of relief, but outwardly remained calm and continued to probe for information: "Brother Wang, do you do business around here?"
"Hehe." Wang Zhiqiang nodded repeatedly, his oily lips glistening under the light. "Just running a small business."
He ate a few more bites of barbecue, each bite more astonishing than the last—such a simple skewer contained such rich layers of flavor. The tenderness of the beef, the richness of the butter, and the perfect seasoning all tantalized his taste buds.
The butter, in particular, created a wonderful contrast between its caramelized exterior and its soft interior. The sweetness of the honey and the aroma of the sesame blended perfectly, making him unable to resist popping piece after piece into his mouth. He even unconsciously slowed down his eating pace, wanting to prolong the time this delicious treat lingered in his mouth.
"Brother Wang, look at these beef skewers," Su Yingxue picked up a skewer and showed it to him, "I used three different kinds of chili peppers, paired with a special cumin powder. What do you think of the taste?"
Wang Zhiqiang took the meat skewer, carefully examining the densely packed seasonings, and then took a big bite. The savory beef and the spicy seasonings exploded in his mouth, the distinct layers of flavor making his eyes light up: "Great! Fantastic! I dare say, this tastes even better than those big restaurants in the city!"
He wolfed down his food while nodding indistinctly, "I'm truly impressed by your cooking skills! Everything you make tastes delicious." As he spoke, he reached for a skewer of freshly grilled butter, completely immersed in the happiness brought by the delicious food.
quite a while
Wang Zhiqiang, carrying a large bag of kebabs, hummed a little tune contentedly as he walked towards the small villa. The shiny packaging bag swayed in his hands, emitting an enticing aroma that attracted the ears of several stray cats by the roadside.
Su Yingxue patted Lin Xiaoman, who was still staring blankly by the second-floor railing. Following her gaze, she saw Wang Zhiqiang's figure gradually disappearing into the distance.
Lin Xiaoman snapped out of her daze, her fingers unconsciously twisting the edge of her apron, her voice so soft it was almost inaudible: "I'm a little nervous. I've never been this close to a suspect before."
"Don't panic, don't panic." Su Yingxue put down the rag she was holding, walked to Lin Xiaoman's side, and gently stroked her head like she was comforting a frightened animal. Her palm was warm. "They're ordering boxed lunches again tomorrow. I'll go check."
Lin Xiaoman suddenly grabbed Su Yingxue's hand, her nails almost digging into the other's flesh: "Then you must be careful." Her voice trembled slightly, her eyes filled with worry.
Su Yingxue grasped Lin Xiaoman's cold fingers in her hand and gently squeezed them. "It's nothing. Just delivering takeout." She paused, then added, "I'll just wait at the door; I won't go in rashly."
Lin Xiaoman nodded, forcing a smile, but she couldn't hide the anxiety in her eyes.
Seeing her like this, Su Yingxue's heart softened, and she said softly, as if coaxing a child, "I'll add some new dishes for them tomorrow. Don't they like meat? Tomorrow I'll make them some stewed beef ribs, stewed until they're tender and melt in their mouths; and some scrambled eggs with tomatoes, sweet and sour to whet their appetite; and for soup, I'll make winter melon and meatball soup, light yet nutritious."
"Winter melon and meatball soup?" Lin Xiaoman's eyes lit up, as if she had temporarily forgotten her earlier tension. "That's good. It's soupy, so it's less likely they'll notice any added ingredients."
“Right!” Su Yingxue raised an eyebrow smugly. “I plan to use ground beef, mixed with some pork, so it will be more tender. I’ll chop the meatballs myself, guaranteeing they’ll be springy. I’ll peel and thickly slice the winter melon, stewing it until translucent, resulting in a clear and flavorful broth.”
Lin Xiaoman's lips unconsciously curled up: "Are you trying to fatten them up?"
“Of course,” Su Yingxue blinked, “You have to get fat first so it’s easier to slaughter the pig.” She gently patted Lin Xiaoman’s shoulder, “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of things these next few days. You can help me out in the kitchen, and we’ll work together.”
Lin Xiaoman looked at Su Yingxue with some doubt. "Are you really just an ordinary chef? I feel like you're more professional than me."
Su Yingxue smiled and nodded: "I loved watching police and gangster movies when I was little. I know them all well. Don't worry, I won't alert them."
Lin Xiaoman nodded, watching Su Yingxue's retreating figure.
Clench your fist. Say firmly, "I'll learn how to barbecue properly with you tomorrow. I won't be so nervous next time."
Su Yingxue yawned. "Okay. Just remember to add the seasoning at the end."
