Chapter 143 What did you say you were transporting?

The group was clearly well-trained. Like a pack of wild beasts with keen senses, they weaved through the city's network, deliberately taking different routes three times in a row, each turn executed with chilling precision. Only at the very end did they slowly drive towards the massive logistics company on the outskirts of the city—a place bordering the national border, a boundary between law and darkness.

Lin Xiaoman squinted, using the dim streetlight to quickly make out the blurry logo on the company sign. Without hesitation, she pulled out her phone, aimed it at the sign, and pressed the shutter. The moment the flash went off in the darkness, her heart almost skipped a beat. After taking the photo, she immediately turned the scooter around, twisted the accelerator to its maximum, and the little electric scooter shot off like an arrow.

The night wind whistled past her ears as she sped along, quickly dialing a number: "Hey, Captain, I've found something... They're in the logistics park on the outskirts of the city, near the border... Yes, I got a picture of the sign..."

Amidst the roar of engines, she faintly heard the sound of a truck engine starting in the distance. Those people were probably about to make their move.

Night fell again, and Su Yingxue was busy arranging ingredients at the barbecue stall, the stainless steel trays clanging against the iron plates. She had just tied her apron when she saw Lin Xiaoman walking over dejectedly.

"What's wrong?" Su Yingxue put down the ingredients in her hand, keenly noticing her partner's low spirits. Lin Xiaoman had no obvious injuries, but she looked listless, like a defeated rooster.

Lin Xiaoman shook her head, sat down heavily on the plastic stool that Su Yingxue handed her, and began to recount her experiences from the previous night.

"Team Leader Lin and his team didn't arrive until almost five o'clock, it was barely dawn." Lin Xiaoman rubbed her temples, seemingly still annoyed by last night's fruitless efforts. "They first sent out drones to scout, but they didn't find anything unusual. The entire logistics park was quiet, not a soul in sight."

"And when they actually went in to search, guess what?" She lowered her voice, mimicking Wang Zhiqiang's expression at the time, "'Captain Lin, we've all been diligently moving goods in the middle of the night!' That old fox said it so smoothly."

Su Yingxue couldn't help but chuckle, but Lin Xiaoman's next description made her suppress her laughter.

"The most outrageous thing is," Lin Xiaoman widened her eyes and gestured vividly, "'Brother, we still need to live even if you're not moving goods! Working in logistics at night pays three times as much as during the day!' The way she acted as if it were our fault for being unreasonable."

"And then?" Su Yingxue pressed, the clip in her hand hovering in mid-air.

"Team Leader Lin had them inspect the warehouse, and guess what they found?" Lin Xiaoman suddenly deflated, her shoulders slumping. "Boxes of brand-new Labubu dolls! Dolls of all styles and colors, packaged as well as if they were from a department store."

“That guy Wang Zhiqiang,” she mimicked his exaggerated tone, “'Captain Lin, our daughter loves rag dolls the most, we were just about to buy some to sell!' He acted like a doting father.”

Su Yingxue imagined that scene, her shoulders trembling slightly.

"Team Leader Lin told them to take all the goods back for inspection," Lin Xiaoman continued. "Guess what Wang Zhiqiang said? 'If the inspection finds no problems, you'll have to compensate us for lost wages and breach of contract! This batch of goods has orders destined for China!' His 'I don't care what happens' attitude was simply laughable."

"And then?" Su Yingxue put down her work and listened intently.

“Our captain admitted defeat and paid five thousand yuan in compensation.” Lin Xiaoman pointed to the distant residential area with a wry smile, “Just for these—” She paused, “and guess what? When those boxes were opened, they were really just ordinary rags, box after box, so new that the packaging tape hadn’t even been removed.”

She turned to look at the small villa with its plain-colored curtains always drawn, her eyes filled with conflicting emotions. "Our captain said to let it go this time, but I feel... this is definitely not over."

"Should we continue monitoring?" Su Yingxue asked in a low voice while neatly arranging the tables and chairs, her eyes involuntarily glancing across the table.

Lin Xiaoman was silent for a moment, her eyes unusually firm in the night: "Keep an eye on them! I have a feeling that those people... definitely don't have good intentions."

In the distance, the plain-colored curtain seemed to sway slightly before quickly returning to stillness. A night breeze swept by, carrying the coolness of early autumn.

Inside the small villa, the dim yellow light cast dappled shadows on the cheap wallpaper. Xiao Sui sat before the old computer, his fingers mechanically tapping the keyboard, the blue light of the screen reflecting on his expressionless face. A can of cola bubbled beside him, but no one drank it.

Wang Zhiqiang fiddled with the five thousand yuan in his hand, his greasy fingertips repeatedly rubbing the edge of the banknote, a smug smile plastered on his face.

"Haha, this time Lin Zhiyuan, that idiot, really got a bitter pill to swallow!" He deliberately slammed the banknotes on the table, making a crisp sound.

Xiao Wang was fiddling with a plush toy in his hand when he suddenly looked up and asked, "Xiao Sui, how did you know the police were coming to check?"

His voice was filled with curiosity, and his fingers unconsciously squeezed the Coke bottle held in the doll's arms.

Xiao Sui didn't look up, his eyes fixed on the data stream on the screen. "How would I know?"

He paused, a faint, cold smile playing on his lips. "But Brother Wang is well-prepared; he'll come in handy just in time."

"These rabbits have really made us a fortune!" Wang Zhiqiang laughed, his fingers lightly tapping on the banknotes, as if playing a victory melody.

Xiao Wang suddenly grabbed Labubu's arm and held the doll up to his eyes: "Hey, what are you guys eating tonight?" His attention was easily diverted, and his stomach promptly protested.

"I want lamb skewers," Xiao Sui suddenly said, his voice eerily calm. He glanced at the greasy smell on Xiao Wang and added, "And get me ten skewers too, extra spicy."

"Why am I always the one running errands!" Xiao Wang pouted, glancing past the stair railing as he leaned lazily against the wall.

Wang Zhiqiang waved his hand impatiently to interrupt them: "Alright, alright, stop arguing! Go downstairs and ask if they have fried noodles, then have someone bring them up." He lowered his head and counted the money again.

"Brother Wang, didn't you say that delivery drivers aren't allowed upstairs?" Xiao Wang reminded him cautiously.

"Tsk, there's a young girl living right across the street." Wang Zhiqiang waved his hand dismissively. "Would she betray us? Old Li said she's just here to open a barbecue stall." He paused, then added meaningfully, "This time Lin Zhiyuan missed his target, he definitely won't dare to make any rash moves again."

"How about we find someone who makes takeout? We're so tired of eating takeout every day," Xiao Sui suddenly suggested, his eyes still glued to the screen as his fingers typed a string of code on the keyboard.
