Chapter 48 New Recipes Arrive

"Snap!" Su Yingxue snapped a photo of Lu Linchuan and sent it to Aunt Huang. In the photo, he was eating wontons with a plastic spoon, his eyes flashing with an incomprehensible emotion as he looked at her, a little grease on his lips, looking quite friendly. Su Yingxue thought to herself, "Aunt Huang should be relieved now."

The moment the photos were sent to Su Yingxue on her phone, Huang Yifei immediately sent a transfer notification via WeChat. Before Su Yingxue could even see the amount, the young master Lu Linchuan heard the WeChat notification sound, and his face suddenly darkened.

He ate one steamed bun and half a bowl of wontons, then suddenly stood up: "I'm not eating anymore, I have no appetite." His tone was somewhat stiff, with a hint of impatience.

Su Yingxue looked at him and pouted. She didn't accept Huang Yifei's red envelope; she felt she had only done what she was supposed to do and didn't need to accept the money.

"If you don't want to eat, then don't. I'm full. I'll wash the dishes and go home to sleep." Su Yingxue quietly tidied up the dishes and watched Lu Linchuan still writing a new song in the composition room.

She peeked out and looked at Lu Linchuan. There were several piles of discarded manuscripts on the floor. He sat in a chair, turned to the side, gazing at the moonlight streaming through the window. The moonlight bathed him in a silvery glow, yet he appeared so lonely and forlorn. Su Yingxue had no idea what he was thinking.

Su Yingxue looked at him and said, "Hey, Lu Linchuan, I'm home."

Lu Linchuan didn't look at her, and after a while, he suddenly blurted out, "I'm going to Boston next month. To pursue a master's degree."

"Oh, congratulations!" Su Yingxue watched his retreating figure, feeling a little emotional, but still continued, "Xiao Zhou is waiting for me outside. I'm leaving now. I left a big bag of steamed buns for you in the fridge. Remember to eat them when you have time."

"You're such a pushover." Lu Linchuan squeezed out these words through gritted teeth, his tone laced with sarcasm.

"Huh?" Su Yingxue didn't hear clearly. She looked at Lu Linchuan in confusion and then said, "Goodbye."

"Xiao Zhou is outside. He's got the car ready. Be careful on your way home." Lu Linchuan reverted to his initial attitude, remaining silent as if their previous exchange had never occurred.

Su Yingxue left, walking down the street at night, still thinking about Lu Linchuan's behavior earlier. "Seriously! Is Lu Linchuan crazy? He accepted a red envelope and then criticized me. It's not like I didn't bring him food. What a waste of that bowl of wontons." She shook her head, sighed, and got into her car to go home. She woke up in the middle of the night, still thinking about it, feeling that Lu Linchuan was truly unpredictable.

Su Yingxue didn't pay much attention to this little incident and started drawing the recipe.

The spinning wheel spun for ages before finally stopping at the tofu pudding option.

"Tofu pudding?" Su Yingxue looked at the pristine white recipe picture in front of her.

Tofu pudding is a traditional Chinese snack, available in both savory and sweet varieties. Su Yingxue has only ever tried the sweet version; she hasn't tried the savory one yet. However, after reading online recommendations, she's seen that savory tofu pudding also has a salty, savory, and spicy flavor, offering a unique taste.

First, make tofu pudding according to the method provided by the system.

Su Yingxue stared at the pristine white recipe picture in front of her, which clearly displayed the words "tofu pudding".

"Tofu pudding? I've only ever had the sweet kind, I've never tried the savory kind." She murmured, her finger lightly swiping across the screen to bring up the recipe provided by the system.

Following the instructions, she first cooked the soy milk, the warm aroma of soybeans filling the kitchen. Then, she carefully added the coagulant, and the soy milk gradually thickened, eventually solidifying into a bowl of smooth tofu pudding, trembling like a piece of soft jade.

"Let's make the sweet one first." She scooped out a bowl, drizzled it with brown sugar syrup, and sprinkled some osmanthus honey on top. The sweet aroma immediately filled the air. I took a bite, and it was still the familiar sweet, soft, and tender flavor.

"What about the savory one?" she asked curiously, glancing at another recipe. The savory one had more ingredients; she added soy sauce, sesame oil, chopped green onions, and pickled mustard greens, then sprinkled on some dried shrimp and chili oil. Finally, after a moment's hesitation, she added a small spoonful of chive blossom sauce, supposedly for extra flavor.

After stirring it well, she scooped a spoonful and put it in her mouth.

"Hmm?" The salty and savory flavor with a hint of spiciness, the crispness of the pickled mustard greens, the aroma of the scallions, and the richness of the soy sauce, all blended together, created a more complex flavor profile than anything sweet. Her eyes lit up, and she scooped up another large spoonful, putting the soup and tofu pudding into her mouth together.

"I didn't know savory tofu pudding could taste so good!" She couldn't help but laugh. She never expected to fall in love with the flavor on her first try of savory tofu pudding.

The next night

Yan Guoxiang arrived at the canteen late at night, and was immediately attracted by the aroma of fresh beans as soon as he entered.

"What's this smell? It smells quite delicious." Yan Guoxiang came in just as Su Yingxue had placed the steamer on the stove.

The sign reads:

Steamed buns: "Pork and scallion buns are ten yuan, and three-delicacy buns are eight yuan."

Tofu pudding costs ten yuan a bowl.

If you combine the three items into a set meal, it will only cost 25 yuan.

This price is a bit high! But there weren't any other vendors setting up stalls late at night. It all depends on what the customers choose!

"Hey!" Yan Guoxiang looked at his two apprentices, Niu Yue and Wang Fei, who had followed behind him. "You two have come too."

"Master, we just finished organizing the patient information and were about to go back to rest." The two people looked at Su Yingxue's stall with great curiosity.

"Sister Su, three set meals, please." Niu Yue said loudly. Then she looked at Yan Guoxiang with a fawning smile, "Master, I've never had this before, please try it."

Yan Guoxiang glanced at the price list, then at the steam rising from the steamer and the trembling tofu pudding in the bowl, and raised an eyebrow: "Xiao Su, your prices are indeed not low, but..." He sniffed, "the aroma of this bean curd is quite enticing."

Su Yingxue smiled and nodded: "Dr. Yan, it's a late-night diner, so the portions have to be generous to justify the price."

Niu Yue couldn't wait to pick up the set meal: three-delicacy buns, pork and scallion buns, and a bowl of steaming tofu pudding. She first took a bite of the bun, the meat juice overflowing, filling her mouth with a fresh and fragrant flavor, and then scooped a spoonful of tofu pudding into her mouth.

"Huh?!" Her eyes lit up immediately. "This tofu pudding...is salty?"

Su Yingxue nodded with a smile: "Yes, it's savory. It has soy sauce, pickled vegetables, chopped green onions, dried shrimp, and chili oil. I've tried it, and it tastes pretty good."

Niu Yue stirred it, and the savory soy sauce flavor mixed with the crispness of the pickled vegetables, plus the slight spiciness of the chili oil, instantly awakened her taste buds with one bite. She scooped up another spoonful, putting the soup and tofu pudding into her mouth, her eyes squinting with satisfaction: "This is so delicious! Much better than what you buy outside!"

Wang Fei, who was still munching on a steamed bun, quickly scooped up a spoonful of tofu pudding upon hearing this. The moment it entered his mouth, he paused for a moment, then nodded repeatedly: "Salty, savory, spicy, and flavorful, with a wonderful variety of textures! Sister Su, your cooking is amazing!"
