rescue vehicle

The thunderstorm continued to crackle and fall. In the corridor outside, the doctor in charge of coordination was shouting anxiously into the intercom, "Ambulance! We need more ambulances! When will the county reinforcements arrive? This is terrible weather and the road conditions are so bad, it will take at least forty minutes!"

Forty minutes... For the seriously injured, every second is golden rescue time.

Gu Yansheng opened his eyes abruptly upon hearing the doctors' discussion. The confusion caused by fear in his eyes was replaced by a sense of determination. He wanted to do something...

Despite the constant sensation of pain and itchiness from the countless needles pricking his skin, he did not stop and strode towards the doctor who was coordinating.

"Director Liu!" Gu Yansheng's voice was a little hoarse from deliberately suppressing discomfort, but his tone was unusually firm. "I heard there are not enough cars. I have a car. If you need it, I can help transport the supplies."

Director Liu turned around when he heard the voice and was stunned when he saw it was Gu Yansheng. He knew that the boy who came from the city to find Jiang Lin was Dr. Jiang’s childhood friend, but the weather outside was so bad. Could this guy who looked like a young master be part of the rescue?

The doctor asked hesitantly, "Xiao Gu, it's raining so hard outside, and we're heading to a collapse site..."

"I can do it!" Gu Yansheng interrupted him, his eyes unquestionable, "You are all doing rescue work now, I have to do something too, let me deliver the supplies and ensure their safe delivery!"

Time was running out, and one more truckload of supplies could save a few more lives. Director Liu looked at Gu Yansheng's stubborn yet determined eyes and finally gritted his teeth. "Okay! Xiao Zhang! Quick! Load those boxes of sterile gloves and disinfectant over there into Mr. Gu's car! Hurry!"

Gu Yansheng immediately turned around and joined the moving team. The umbrella was completely useless in the rush and wind. The cold rain hit his face and neck at an angle, soaking his coat.

The damp, cold, and sticky touch penetrated the fabric and stuck to his hypersensitive skin, instantly triggering a more intense itching and suffocating sensation that almost made him want to retch.

The adrenaline anti-allergic drug he injected himself with before going out was struggling to suppress the risk of more serious laryngeal edema, but it could not completely eliminate the pain on the surface of his skin.

[I really want Jiang Lin’s touch...]

He could feel the countdown of the drug's fierce battle against the disease in his body and did not dare to delay even a little.

"Hurry up, hurry up!" He urged himself in a low voice, as if he was talking to the medical staff who were carrying the supplies. He stuffed the last box of supplies into the trunk and closed the hatch forcefully. The rain had already soaked him completely.

I opened the car door and got into the driver's seat. The action of fastening my seat belt seemed a little clumsy because of the slight trembling of my fingers. The small space in the car temporarily blocked me from the heavy rain.

But the feeling of the wet clothes sticking to the skin is still clear, as if being wrapped in a piece of rough sandpaper.

He took a deep breath and gripped the steering wheel tightly with both hands, his knuckles turning white from the exertion. His eyes were fixed on the ambulance in front of him through the rain-blurred windshield with its lights flashing.

"Follow it, Gu Yansheng, you can do it." He said to himself, ignoring the sharp protest from his skin, stepped on the accelerator, and the car rushed into the vast rain, heading towards the dangerous but necessary direction where Jiang Lin was.

The wheels rolled over the ground mixed with mud and gravel, and finally stopped at a temporary rescue assembly point. Gu Yansheng almost used up all his strength to step on the brakes.

Everything he saw made his blood almost freeze.

In the heavy rain, the houses originally built against the mountain looked like they had been eaten by a giant beast, leaving only broken walls and ruins. Mud, mixed with furniture fragments and branches, piled up at the foot of the mountain into a hideous ochre swamp.

Cries, cries for help, the medical staff's urgent instructions, the ambulance's shrill sirens... all the sounds were infinitely amplified, mixed with the noise of the rainstorm, and madly hit his eardrums.

This chaotic, desperate, rain-shrouded scene was like a rusty key, suddenly prying open the darkest box in the depths of his memory - that same cold rainy night in his childhood, the suffocating feeling of being forced into the carriage, the kidnapper's heavy breathing, and the endless fear...

"Uh..." Gu Yansheng suddenly curled up, his stomach churning. The psychological fear was like a poisonous ivy, instantly entangling his heart and quickly triggering an extreme reaction in his body.

The red rash on the skin seemed to be poured with boiling oil, and the pain and itching suddenly intensified, from the previous fine needle pricks to the burning sensation of fire, as unbearable as countless ants gnawing at the bone marrow.

Adrenaline is like a fragile film that barely holds back the potentially fatal laryngeal edema, but it cannot alleviate the torture that spreads throughout the body.

Cold sweat instantly soaked through his already half-wet clothes, and mixed with the rain, bringing a deeper chill and stickiness. All the strength in his body seemed to be drained away in an instant. He collapsed in the driver's seat, his fingers gripping the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turning bluish-white.

His vision began to blur, not only because of the rain, but also because of physiological tears accumulating in his eyes. He felt so painful that he wanted to cry, but he didn't even have the strength to make a sound.

Go out? He can't do it!

The car door seemed to weigh a thousand pounds, and the chaotic and desperate world outside the car was more like a huge whirlpool that would swallow him up.

"Bang, bang, bang!" The driver's window was slammed hard and rapidly.

Gu Yansheng shuddered, his scattered gaze struggling to focus. Outside the car window was a worried face blurred by the rain. It belonged to the driver of the ambulance in front.

"Brother! Trunk! Open the trunk!" the driver shouted, his voice a little distorted in the rain.

Gu Yansheng's mind was blank. Fear and pain made it almost impossible for him to think. He just relied on his remaining sanity and a bit of instinct. He trembled and raised his arm that felt like it was filled with lead. His fingers trembled as he fumbled on the center console for several times before finally pressing the button to open the trunk.

There was a slight "click" sound, almost inaudible in the noisy environment.

The driver outside obviously didn't notice his pale face and abnormal condition. Seeing this, he immediately turned around and rushed to the back of the car, muttering "Hurry up, hurry up", quickly picked up the supplies, and plunged into the chaos again without looking back.

The trunk lid was open, like an open wound, with cold rain and muddy air constantly pouring in.

Gu Yansheng was left alone in the closed carriage, like a wounded cub trapped in a trap, wailing silently under the increasingly intense pain and the shadow of his childhood.

He bit his lower lip, tasting the faint taste of rust, proof of his extreme endurance. The time on his phone reminded him that he could take another anti-allergic histamine pill now...

The young boy huddled in a corner of an abandoned factory, his eyes covered with a rough cloth. He could see nothing but endless darkness and fear.

Outside, there was a rumbling thunder and a pattering rain, which hit the dilapidated iron roof, making a deafening noise.

"You little bastard, be quiet! I'll kill you if you cry again!" The man's fierce curse drilled into his ears like a poisonous snake, accompanied by a fiery slap that made his ears buzz and his mouth instantly filled with a stronger smell of blood.

It was so cold… The dampness seemed to penetrate his thin clothes and seep into his bones. His skin was sticky and cold, whether from rain, sweat, or tears. Fear, like an icy vine, wrapped around his throat, making him unable to utter a single sound, and he could only scream silently in his heart.

"Damn, this awful weather..." another man's voice was harsh and unpleasant. "...Once I get the money, I'll take care of this little problem..."

The word "deal with" was like an icicle, piercing his young heart.

He was trembling, each breath trembling with despair. The sound of rain, thunder, the men's curses, the pain of being beaten, and the sticky, cold feeling that had nowhere to escape... all the feelings intertwined and were imprinted deep in his soul.

Gu Yansheng suddenly broke free from the unbearable memory and gasped for breath, as if he had just been suffocated.

He reached for the medicine bottle in his pocket with trembling hands.

Can't fall...at least, not here, not in this way.
