Chapter 149: Giotto Extra (Part 2) Perhaps I was too obvious...
Time goes back to the 21st century.
Ever since the tenth Vongola leader, Sawada Tsunayoshi, ascended to power, the first generations have become more active. The reason is simple: this seemingly timid and quiet successor, who actually beats people harder than anyone, bears a strong resemblance to Giotto himself. It's not that Giotto himself is shy; just imagining that scene makes them gasp!
Giotto was an extrovert, lively and cheerful man who seemed easy to talk to and sociable, but he could beat people more cruelly than anyone else.
What's more, the personalities and appearances of the other guardians are very similar to those of the guardians of the first generation, which is enough to make them amazed; what makes them even more delighted is that the Vongola led by Sawada Tsunayoshi actually coincides with their guardian philosophy back then. After so many years, the Vongola is actually on the same path as before!
"What a good boy!" Giotto exclaimed as he maxed out Spedo's credit card, buying things for Sawada Tsunayoshi. Spedo was naturally furious but could not say anything. Upon learning the source of the funds, Sawada Tsunayoshi's attitude changed. His initial "Please don't spend any more..." became a cheerful acceptance, and he joined Giotto in his corrupt practices, becoming close friends.
"I have a favor to ask of you, Tsuna!" So, when Giotto said this, "Since our time, Vongola has been collecting regular annual payments from the Savoy royal family on behalf of the Duke of Caserta, until the war decades ago. Although we are using that money for business, when the Duke of Caserta's descendants appear, please return the money to him."
The Tenth Vongola readily agreed.
Out of curiosity, the descendants of the Duke of Volturno - since Italy eventually established a republic, these noble titles had long lost their privileges, but they were still retained as part of the surname as a tribute to their ancestors - asked about the Duke of Caserta's past and looked up some information.
Giotto was not at all surprised that he found almost no historical records.
"His name is Elio," said Giotto, laughing, "and he is a very headstrong fellow!"
"Sounds like he's a very good friend of yours."
"Of course!"
So what kind of person is Elio?
Putting aside the bloody memories of their shared battles, Giotto let his mind wander, briefly lost in the intimate, cheerful friendship they once shared. When he regained consciousness, facing the Vongola X's gaze, filled with anticipation and curiosity, he smiled and said, "He was... a man who seemed good-tempered, but who would not tolerate even the slightest betrayal, even daring enough to 'inform' the King that he was quitting! Now, how should I put it, he's also broken up with me in a similarly abrupt way!"
The Tenth Vongola was shocked, "Huh?"
Giotto let out a playful laugh and vanished. The tenth Vongola, feeling a mix of emotions, studied his ancestor's tone for a moment... Giotto hadn't forgotten that Sawada Tsunayoshi had inherited his exceptionally sharp intuition, hadn't he?
When Elio, the supposed descendant of the Duke of Caserta, finally showed up, Vongola X was a bit surprised. He looked so much like his ancestor!
But he looked gentle and reserved, not at all like the guy who would "break up drastically" as Giotto said.
The ghosts were even more amazed. "I've never seen this kid so reserved!" "He doesn't even want money? Is he stupid?" "Why is he so reluctant to join the Vongola?"
Only Giotto smiled and explained, "That's how Elio was when I first met him! He was wary and suspicious of almost everything, not to mention Tsuna's warm hospitality."
The Guardians of the First World fell silent, then exchanged meaningful glances. Yu Yue smiled and said, "You really do understand Elio best, Giotto!"
Arnold had little interest in the rumor-mongering and played no part in it. Knuckle, once a devoted believer, had become more open-minded after being exposed to modern ideas, especially when it came to his best friend, a man willing to break almost any convention. "I'm so sorry I put so much pressure on you, Giotto!" Knuckle wiped away tears. "You were just two people in love..."
Giotto stopped laughing immediately, "Who told this to Nakel?!"
The guardians burst into laughter and dispersed.
Only the most loyal Gatlin remained with Giotto. But after patiently listening to Giotto's sobbing, Gatlin pulled out Giotto's handkerchief and, as always, pressed it against Giotto's face. He asked expressionlessly, "When are you going to meet Elio?"
"Uh..." Giotto faltered.
Gatlin gave him a skeptical look. "You're not really..."
Giotto clutched his handkerchief and cried out, "Absolutely not!"
"Really?" Gatlin said indifferently, "I heard from the Tenth Life that Elio happened to have a golden indulgence..."
Giotto had obviously heard about this, his expression shifting between pale and green, and he even forgot to ask Gatlin why he mentioned this. Gatlin observed his expression and continued, "I'm not sure about the others, but you are definitely Gold Grade, right?"
Of course, Giotto couldn't refute this. If he, the first Vongola, wasn't Gold Grade, who else could be?
"I've heard it all. If they can't find a way to destroy that set of cards," Gatlin used his final killing move, "We can't let Elio die here. You know. If things get that bad, will you..."
At this point, Giotto's expression could no longer be described as simply "subtle." He seemed hesitant to speak, he stuttered, or he was extremely embarrassed and refused to discuss the matter. But soon, that very personal, even somewhat ambiguous expression disappeared from his face.
"This is beyond joking, Gatling," said Giotto.
Gatlin readily agreed, "Sorry."
They stood in silence for a while in the moonlight. Just when Gatlin thought Giotto would not speak again and was about to leave quietly, Giotto finally spoke.
"Did you really find out something, or are you just kidding?"
Gatlin hesitated. Finally, he said, "I think they're just kidding."
"Really?" Giotto chuckled. "Perhaps I was being too obvious."
Gatlin made no sound. He followed Giotto's gaze and saw a dim light in Elio's window, hidden by the trees in the garden.
"You really should have told him sooner," Gatlin said.
"It's all over, Gatlin," Giotto replied gently. "It's all over. Don't tell him about it. Let him enjoy his future. After all, we are all dead."
It seemed that Dead Man No. 1 was going to follow the Italian way and continue to stand guard here. Dead Man No. 2 shook his head and quickly disappeared from the spot; but Dead Man No. 1 stood there for a while, looked left and right, and quickly sprinted forward, easily flipping into Elio's window that was not closed tightly.
The burst of golden flames startled Dead Man Number Three, who was already in the room. Giotto was also quite surprised and immediately asked, "Damon! What are you doing here?"
Spedo's face turned pale and blue. "Why are you looking at me like that?! I'm the straightest one!!!"
Giotto thought about it carefully and realized that this was indeed the case. His expression immediately relaxed, and he even looked thoughtful. "It seems that you two were good friends at that time."
"I just wanted to talk to him," Spedo said, seeing that he didn't pursue the matter, and immediately resumed his sanctimonious demeanor, "to see if he really didn't remember."
"Perhaps it's not that he doesn't remember," Giotto said, "but that he hasn't met us yet."
"Oh? What do you mean?"
They all turned their eyes to Elio, who was lying on the sofa. A half-opened copy of "The Count of Monte Cristo" was covering his chest. This young man, who was only in his twenties, had his eyes closed, breathing evenly, one arm folded under his curly head, and one leg slid loosely to the floor, sleeping in a mess.
"He told me he was from this era."
Giotto spoke softly, removing the bound volume from Elio's hand. Following Elio's reading habits, Giotto picked up the bookmark, tucked it between the pages, and then put it on the table. Spedo watched the entire process with a subtle expression, especially when Giotto lifted the blanket from the bed and shook it over Elio, covering him.
"So," Giotto clapped his hands, "perhaps the time has not yet come for him to leave this era and move on to the 19th century."
Spedo drawled, "Oh."
"Did you hear the conversation between Gatlin and me just now?"
Spedo said, "Do you want me to hear it?"
Giotto raised an eyebrow, and Spedo immediately lost his confidence in playing psychological warfare with him. He reluctantly admitted, "Do you think I can't hear you? Just tell me, what do you want from me?"
"Just don't tell him," said Giotto.
Spedo had just laughed when Giotto added slowly, "You are not allowed to let him know this by any means, whether through hints, guidance, or inquiries. If Elio finds out, you will be the only one to hold him accountable."
Spedo's face was gloomy and he was silent for a while. Giotto raised an eyebrow at him, and Spedo understood and spoke again, "Nothing, I just didn't expect you to be serious."
Giotto raised his eyebrows again.
"I heard you got married later." Spedo said lightly.
Thinking of Spedo's later fate with Elena, and Spedo's loneliness for a hundred years, Giotto was silent for a while. Then he said, "When you are young, who can't be moved?"
The wind rustled the curtains. Spedo saw that Giotto seemed lost in thought, just staring at young Elio, so he went over and closed the window. When he turned around, Giotto had disappeared.
Perhaps, Spedo thought, as Giotto said...
That's all in the past.
After all, they are all dead!

The author has something to say: You wouldn’t believe it… Giotto actually…
But Giotto was also surprised that Oreo hadn't noticed. He'd really made it obvious! .jpg And then nothing happened. The timing was never right. Giotto was joking when he said they broke up on the cliff. He knew in his heart that Oreo stayed in the 19th century for him. Later, Giotto also loved his wife. I hope everyone doesn't misunderstand this (scratching his head). After all, people don't usually love only one person or have only one relationship in their life... Of course, Spedo is an exception.jpg
