Chapter 184 The two are inherently incompatible

"Taking the exam in Beijing? The college entrance exam? It's only March, isn't it?"

Lin Chen's heart skipped a beat, but he strode into the room expressionlessly: "What else?"

"A truckload of new women's spring clothes arrived from the south the day before yesterday, and then we sold them wholesale."

Wholesale clothing? How's business?

Lin Chen raised an eyebrow: "Do you have any weaknesses?"

"Business should be good. He has a group of followers, and the women's clothing is selling quite well."

Feng Shaotang briefly recounted what Chen Jing had done in Beijing, and after a while said, "He's not a local. His underlings are all newly recruited. They sell clothes with him and seem to be making a good living."

"At this time, having the ability to get wholesale clothing is quite a skill."

Lin Chen thought for a moment: "Starting last year, some small families in Shanghai started doing clothing wholesale. Actually, we could do something similar in Beijing."

Ma Shaotang immediately understood: "Don't worry, young master, I guarantee that in less than a month, we'll squeeze that scoundrel surnamed Chen out of business."

Chen Jing: ...

A month? The thousand spring clothes were all sold out in less than a week, and they all went home.

Lin Chen pondered: "It's normal for a hoodlum to lead a few smaller thugs around the streets."

"But his fiancée is determined to go to university, so she must be ambitious. How could she possibly fall for a hoodlum?"

Ma Shaotang reminded her at the right moment: "I heard that the hoodlum's fiancée goes to the Chaoyang Library to read books every day, leaving early and returning late, without missing a day, rain or shine."

"And that guy surnamed Chen, he's been coming over to keep his fiancée company every now and then these past few days, as if he's afraid someone will seduce her."

Lin Chen's heart skipped a beat, and he smiled meaningfully: "I'll prepare the car this afternoon and go to Chaoyang Library to see if there are any good books I can borrow?"

Ma Shaotang hurriedly went out to make arrangements. When Lin Chen came out from his lunch break, the car was already parked outside the hotel.

Stepping out of the hotel, Lin Chen glanced back at the hotel sign: "The prosperity of Beijing is no less than that of Shanghai. Keep an eye on local properties; if the price is right, buy a courtyard house and have a place to stay."

Ma Shaotang readily agreed.

The car stopped at Chaoyang Library. Lin Chen took the library card from Ma Shaotang and said, "You don't need to go in. Just wait for me outside."

Ma Shaotang responded, and Lin Chen straightened his clothes, turned around, and strode into the library.

Upon entering the library, his eyes were immediately drawn to the neatly arranged shelves and the vast collection of books; the libraries in Beijing were indeed different.

Looking again at the quiet reading area, she pursed her lips.

Soon, he saw Chen Jing holding a book, smiling and leaning close to the girl, whispering and laughing.

Lin Chen's eyes flickered, then suddenly froze.

The girl wore a simple white shirt with a long collar tied in a bow, a beige cardigan over it, and her hair was tied in a high ponytail that draped over her shoulders.

With jet-black hair, snow-white skin, and lips as red as cinnabar, she exuded an air of scholarly refinement, like a beauty stepping out of a painting.

Lin Chen's breathing became lighter, his mind went blank, and the profile he had glimpsed that day slowly merged with the quiet girl in front of him, filling his heart with ecstasy.

He thought he would never see her again in his life, but unexpectedly, he ran into her again in this quiet library.

Lin Chen's gaze was so intense that Chen Jing quickly noticed his presence and his expression changed.

He put down his book and strode to block Lin Chen's way: "Mr. Lin, this is a library. Please don't disturb them. Let's talk outside."

With his view blocked, Lin Chen finally came to his senses and suddenly saw Chen Jing's face magnified in front of him. He suddenly remembered that Chen Jing had been sitting next to the girl in white.

Remembering the information Ma Shaotang had found, Lin Chen's expression immediately turned somewhat grim.

Staring coldly at Chen Jing's arrogant face, Lin Chen took a deep breath. The joy of regaining what he had lost lasted only a few seconds before an even greater sense of loss filled his heart.

He gave Chen Jing a deep look, then turned and left the library. Only when he reached the shade of a tree by the roadside did he turn back and ask, "What do you want to say?"

"Young Master Lin, I should be the one asking this. What are you doing here?"

Lin Chen glanced at him expressionlessly: "Of course we go to the library to read, what else would we do? What? Do you own the library? Can't other people come in?"

"Just reading?"

Chen Jing looked him up and down with a suspicious gaze. Of all the libraries in Beijing, why did he choose the one his woman frequented?

"I have no other thoughts."

"Of course, you can come to the library, but I can't?" Lin Chen scoffed dismissively.

"It's best if you don't have any other ideas."

Chen Jing glared at him and made a fierce gesture: "Don't let me find out what you're doing behind my back!"

Chen Jing uttered a harsh remark and turned to leave.

You think everyone is like you?

Lin Chen, facing Chen Jing's retreating figure, casually probed, "So nervous? Is there someone inside you're nervous about? Is it the girl next to you just now? Is she your sister?"

"My sister? She's my woman, don't even think about it."

Lin Chen recalled the information Ma Shaotang had investigated and suddenly felt a sense of unease.

Then he suddenly remembered the requirements for college entrance exams this year and couldn't help but sneer: "She's going to take the college entrance exam, right? I heard there are new standards this year, and they won't accept married students."

Chen Jing narrowed his eyes and slowly stopped walking.

This effeminate bastard has fallen for his woman?

He turned around with a cold smile, about to utter a few more harsh words.

On second thought, what difference would it make? Ji Xia only coveted his body; she barely even glanced at other men.

He laughed heartily, his laughter tinged with smugness: "Have you ever heard of a common-law marriage? We grew up together, I'm the man she's determined to marry, and the man her parents and brother trust the most. I advise you not to waste your time."

After Chen Jing finished speaking triumphantly, he laughed loudly and left. Lin Chen stood there staring at his back, a murderous intent rising in his heart.

I've never felt such disgust and hatred for anyone before. This man, from the very first time I met him, it was as if we were destined to clash.

The shop she had her eye on was snatched away by him, and the woman he finally set his sights on was also reserved by him long ago.

This man is obviously a thug, how come he's so lucky?

Lin Chen stood there for a long time, looking lost, before slowly turning around and leaving.

Back in the car, Ma Shaotang noticed Lin Chen's unpleasant expression and assumed he had been humiliated by Chen Jing again, which surprised him.

After hesitating for a long time, he asked, "Young Master, where are we going now?"

"Sit here for a while."

The two sat in the car for three or four hours. The library readers gradually came out, and the librarian locked the library doors. Only then did they see Chen Jing and a pretty girl slowly walk out and find a small shop to eat at.

"This hoodlum is really lucky with women; he found a pretty one."

Ma Shaotang said enviously, then suddenly noticed that the young master in the back seat looked even more gloomy upon hearing this.
