Chapter 280 Returning to the Capital: It's All That Person's Fault

When Chen Jing got off the train in Beijing, it was already snowing.

Snowflakes drifted down from the sky, like pearls, crystal clear; like goose feathers, fluttering and swirling; like playful little fairies in the sky; like willow catkins falling from the heavens...

It was beautiful, breathtaking, but Chen Jing couldn't appreciate it when he was actually there.

Because he felt the bone-chilling cold deeply while on the train at night, and was so cold that he was shivering all over.

When he boarded the train in the south, he was wearing a thin sweater and still felt hot all over.

I've already put on a sweater and a thin cotton coat, but I still feel a chill, and my hands and feet are freezing.

After getting off the train with my luggage, I saw Ji Xia and Xie An standing at the station entrance, looking around.

She wore a khaki knee-length coat, a large wool shawl draped over her shoulders, a beige wool hat, two long braids hanging down beside her ears, and a mask with a cute rabbit pattern covering her face, leaving only her dark almond-shaped eyes looking around.

If it weren't for her beautiful eyes, Chen Jing would hardly have recognized that the girl, bundled up tightly like a clumsy little penguin, was Ji Xia.

Behind her, Xie An kept rubbing his hands together and breathing on them, muttering complaints under his breath.

Chen Jing couldn't help but smile and wave vigorously in that direction.

Soon, Ji Xia spotted Chen Jing and ran over excitedly with a scream.

"Ah Jing, why are you dressed so lightly? Aren't you cold?"

Ji Xia exclaimed in surprise, looked at herself, and suddenly pulled off the shawl around her neck, hurriedly wrapping it around his neck.

Chen Jing couldn't help but grab Ji Xia's hands, only to find that she shivered involuntarily, her face turning pale and red from the cold, even the tip of her nose was red.

"You should wear it. You're more susceptible to the cold than I am. I'm perfectly healthy!"

As Chen Jing spoke, he took off the scarf he had just put on and wrapped it around her shoulders, also helping to tidy up her messy bangs.

"Don't get cold. It's so cold, you can easily get frostbite."

Xie An chuckled and took a few steps closer, handing over a small, flat bottle: "You Southerners are really strange. Even though you're shivering from the cold, you don't know to put on an extra layer of warm clothing. Take a sip; it's the most effective way to warm up."

"Brother Xie, I'm flattered that you picked me up!"

Chen Jing took the small bottle, checked the capacity, estimated it was only enough for two sips, shook his head, unscrewed the cap, and gulped it down.

The icy liquid entered his mouth, and he immediately felt a burning sensation as it slid down his throat. His dark, handsome face instantly turned red; it was actually strong liquor.

However, it really works; within just a minute or two, I felt my body warm up.

"Thanks, this really works. When I got on the train, Nanfang was still wearing a shirt and hadn't prepared many warm clothes. I didn't expect it to snow when I got back to Beijing."

"It only started snowing last night. A few days ago it was just windy, but last night it started raining and snowing, and the temperature dropped immediately."

Ji Xia stared greedily at his face. They had never been apart for so long before, and this time she seemed to miss him terribly.

Indeed, the saying "absence makes the heart grow fonder" is quite true.

She held Chen Jing's hand reluctantly: "Let's go, the family has prepared a lamb hot pot, waiting for you to come back and eat!"

"good."

Chen Jing sensed Ji Xia's enthusiasm from her eyes, which made him feel happy. He hooked her palm and picked up the luggage at his feet.

"Brother Xie, I really didn't expect you to come back to pick me up. How have you been these past month?"

"fine!"

Xie An chuckled and pointed at Ji Xia: "Now, I'm her family. If my sister needs help, of course I have to do my part."

Chen Jing raised an eyebrow, looking at Ji Xia with an ambiguous expression. In less than a month, she had already become part of her family?

Back in her hometown, she was suppressed by Ji Xiangjun. But after arriving in Beijing, she found such a powerful backer. What happened in between?

Ji Xia smiled slightly as she took his arm, and whispered to herself, "I played matchmaker for him and Qingci. They've confirmed their relationship. Qingci is my sister, so he's become part of my family too."

Chen Jing secretly gave her a thumbs up. So, she was incredibly lucky; even someone like that became her family.

That afternoon, the courtyard was bustling with activity for a long time. Chen Jing, Xie An, and Xie Xun almost finished the wine that Ji Xia had brewed, and all of them were completely drunk.

Ji Xia helped Chen Jing back to his room, washed his face with hot water, and fed him a few sips of plum juice.

She rubbed her forehead and muttered in dissatisfaction, "Aren't you stupid? You drink every toast offered to you without even considering your own alcohol tolerance. What if you get alcohol poisoning one day? I won't care about you anymore."

"You're willing to part with it!"

Chen Jing grabbed her delicate hand and held her other hand in his.

Ji Xia looked up and saw that the man, whom she had assumed was completely drunk, was smiling at her with a smile in his eyes and a slight upturn at the corners of his mouth.

She suddenly realized: "You're faking being drunk? Didn't you drink a lot?"

Chen Jing couldn't help but chuckle softly, tossed the hot towel in her hand into the basin of water beside the bed, and pulled her onto the bed.

"It's only three or four catties of wine. There are so many of us men, how could we possibly get drunk?"

He buried his head in Ji Xia's neck and took a deep breath: "Xia, I missed you so much."

A faint, sweet fragrance wafted into Chen Jing's nostrils, and he felt his bones soften. He couldn't help but lower his head and kiss his neck, covering his soft red lips with his own.

The biting wind howled outside the window, and occasionally playful snowflakes would flutter down, like countless white butterflies dancing and swirling in the wind, composing the melody of winter.

The indoor temperature gradually rises, and the sounds of wind and rain outside the window intertwine, soaring together to the clouds.

When the rain stopped and the clouds dispersed, Ji Xia leaned against Chen Jing's chest, breathing slightly heavily.

"How did this finger get like this?"

Chen Jing casually played with her delicate hands, but soon noticed something was wrong.

On her beautiful, slender fingers, two spots were red and swollen, like puffed-up steamed buns.

Ji Xia frowned and glanced at it: "The temperature is low, and you can easily get frostbite if you're not careful."

"Is this chilblains? Does it hurt? Have you taken it to the hospital?"

"I went there and got a box of frostbite cream. It's very itchy, but it doesn't hurt that much."

Ji Xia pulled her hands back under the covers, pouting in dissatisfaction: "It's all your fault! You haven't come back for so long, and you've pushed all the work onto me. What's going on? Did something happen at home?"

“Something happened. My second brother-in-law had an accident and broke his leg. My second sister came to our house for help. In order to give them some security, I stayed at home for an extra half month.”

Chen Jing briefly explained the matter of Chen Yi and her husband, then put his arm around her to comfort her, saying, "And about the Lin family, when I left, didn't you say that someone came to cause trouble? Was it the Lin family's doing?"
