Chapter 55 We are a garment factory, not a tailor shop

Su Yujing's smile remained unchanged, while Hu Man said matter-of-factly, "What's so strange about that? Some design studios abroad specialize in making things to order, producing a complete set of each design."

Chen Jing smiled wryly, speechless: "Miss Hu, this is a garment factory, not a tailor shop. A garment involves a series of processes, from design and pattern making to production. How could we possibly only make one piece?"

What do they take them for? Tailors? Chen Jing's expression was very unpleasant.

He was smiling obsequiously to get more orders, not for custom orders. If Manager Hu hadn't been there, he would have slammed his fist on the table and stormed out.

"Why can't you be flexible at all?"

Hu Man slammed her hand on the table, and Manager Hu immediately stopped her: "Shut up, Man, say less."

Hu Man pouted and glared at him. Manager Hu chuckled at Su Yujing and said, "Little Su, Little Chen hasn't figured it out yet, but he'll definitely agree."

"Manager Hu, no—"

Just as Chen Jing was about to try to negotiate with Manager Hu, Manager Hu tugged at his sleeve and winked at him: "Little Chen, come on, let's go out and have someone bring some snacks. These aren't enough."

He stood up and gestured for Chen Jing to come out with him. Chen Jing looked helpless and followed him out of the private room.

The two left the private room, Chen Jing looking troubled: "Manager Hu, this request is really difficult for me. How can it be possible to make only one of each new style?"

"Xiao Chen, for every style Miss Su wants, I'll order one style for you, two hundred pieces of each style."

Chen Jing was taken aback: "Didn't she say she could only make one?"

“I mean a different style. If she wants one style, I’ll take another. If she wants four styles, I’ll order four more for you, at least two hundred pieces of each style. The price is negotiable.”

Chen Jing blinked, as if it wasn't impossible to make an exception. After all, they were just a small workshop, and Manager Hu thought they were a state-owned factory, but they weren't.

Ji Xia gave him the design drawings, and he only asked to choose five or six styles to place an order.

His eyes darted around, and he smiled awkwardly: "What if she wants all fourteen of them?"

“Then you can design fourteen more styles, two hundred pieces of each. I trust this designer’s skills. If you agree, I’ll place the order right away.”

Manager Hu stared intently at his expression and saw that although he looked troubled, his expression had softened.

After all, I'm new to sales and still quite unfamiliar with the business. Getting hundreds or thousands of orders at once is no easy feat.

Chen Jing pretended to consider it for a while before finally relenting: "Okay, I'll go back and think of a way!"

"That's more like it!"

Manager Hu patted him on the shoulder with satisfaction, then lowered his voice: "The money for this exclusive edition will be included in the order; there's no need to collect the money from Miss Su separately."

Chen Jing frowned: "This price?"

"You can read the newspaper!"

Knowing that he was a newbie and not very familiar with the business, he whispered his advice: "The unit price is twenty, so quote twenty-two, and the extra amount will be covered."

Chen Jing nodded repeatedly: "No need for so much. Even the best fabric won't cost more than two hundred. There's no need to add two yuan."

"Just add two more, and use the best and most expensive fabric. You silly boy, be honest."

Manager Hu laughed heartily, then lowered his voice after a moment: "Make two copies of the quotation report, one for your factory and one for the department store. You know how to handle the extra money?"

As he spoke, he gave Chen Jing a meaningful look.

Chen Jing lowered his head and pondered for a long time before finally giving a relieved smile: "I understand, Manager Hu, I know what to do."

"Good, very good, it's good that you understand. I, Lao Hu, will not forget you."

Manager Hu patted him on the shoulder, laughed, and led him to find a waiter to order a few more dishes before returning to the private room.

Su Yujing and Hu Man were still discussing in hushed tones when Manager Hu laughed and said, "Su, just say whichever one you like. You can have whichever one you want. Don't worry."

"Then I'll thank you, Uncle Hu."

Su Yujing smiled at the two of them and, as expected, unceremoniously pulled out several design sketches: "I want these few. Also, I don't really like the colors of these two. Can you change them for me?"

Not to be outdone, Hu Man also ordered two pieces and made her own requests, writing the colors on the drawings.

The two girls actually ordered eight new styles. Chen Jingzhen was a little impressed by their boldness; they really didn't hold back at all.

Who is this person that Manager Hu would fawn over so much?

Regardless of her status, she wanted eight designs. Manager Hu took the other six, and Ji Xia was to design two more. The eight designs totaled 1,600 sets of ready-made garments. This order would allow their small workshop to make a fortune.

He readily agreed, marked the eight renderings with the required colors, and suggested that the two of them take the measurements for him to write down.

The two happily agreed, and Manager Hu gave him an approving look.

The four enjoyed their lunch together when Su Yujing suddenly asked, "Is the designer at your factory a young woman? I heard she can design wedding dresses too, is that right? Can I see her next time?"

Chen Jing was startled and immediately smiled, "Next time I deliver goods, I'll bring our designer along so she can meet you."

"Great! I'd like to see what her wedding dress design looks like." Su Yujing was very pleased to hear that the designer would be coming to see her.

After the meal, the two girls left happily, and Chen Jing discussed the delivery date with Manager Hu.

Because of his cooperation, Manager Hu gave him a very flexible timeframe and readily agreed to his requests.

After the meal, I took him back to the department store to place an order and asked him to deliver the eight items for the two girls along with the price list next time.

After successfully securing an order for 1,600 items, with the goods to be delivered in three installments, Chen Jing happily took his younger brother to the textile factory to order fabric.

While Chen Jing and his younger brother were delivering goods and processing orders, Ji Xia returned to the commune middle school with her schoolbag.

The commune middle school had only one class for the second year of high school, with a total of more than fifty students. When Ji Xia arrived at the classroom, she discovered that there were also many educated youth from the rural brigades who were unwilling to give up and planned to retake the exam.

Most of the test takers were boys, with only a few girls among them, including some whom Ji Xia knew.

Yang Cuiqin, a former educated youth in the brigade, was already familiar with Ji Xia. Upon seeing her, she smiled and waved.

Ji Xia smiled faintly, walked to the seat next to Yang Cuiqin and sat down, then asked in surprise, "Yang, you're also taking the college entrance exam next year?"

"Yes, it was not easy to get my family's support to let me take the exam again. If I fail again next year, I will have no choice but to settle down in the countryside."

Yang Cuiqin smiled wryly as she secretly observed her, but in her heart she thought of Ji Xia's second brother. She had heard that Ji Xiangjun was still single and had the best relationship with Ji Xia.

If she fails the exam, and becomes friends with Ji Xia, will she have a chance to meet Ji Xiangjun?

"And you? You already have a job, why did you think of taking the college entrance exam?"

"I want to go further, broaden my horizons, learn more, and also prove myself," Ji Xia said.

Yang Cuiqin sighed: "You want to prove yourself to Lin Haodong, right? Actually, I think it's a good thing you broke up with him. You don't know how much suffering Liu Pianran endured after marrying him."
