At noon, the villagers, carrying hoes, walked wearily home.
Captain Chen and Party Secretary Ji walked at the back, discussing the work arrangements for the autumn harvest.
Captain Chen received his wife's suggestion, walked to the fork in the road, and said with a smile, "Did your wife and Zhijun go to town to pick up your daughter-in-law and grandson today? Why don't you just come to my house for a meal? I'm too lazy to cook for myself."
Secretary Ji and Captain Chen had worked together for many years and had a good relationship. Upon hearing this, he didn't stand on ceremony and readily agreed.
When the two arrived at the Chen family home, Chen Jing greeted them warmly and handed Secretary Ji and his father wet towels soaked in cool well water: "Uncle Ji, Dad, come, take a shower first, feel more comfortable, and then we'll eat together."

Captain Chen chuckled and invited Secretary Ji to sit down with him. Chen Jing quickly poured beer for everyone.
"Why does it need to be a special occasion for a simple meal?"
Captain Chen laughed loudly, then invited Secretary Ji to sit down and raised his beer to clink with him: "On such a hot day, a beer will quench your thirst."
"Eat more vegetables. You've been exhausted these days. You need to eat well to have the energy to work."
As Chen's mother spoke, she diligently served him dishes, while Chen Jing very tactfully poured wine for his father and Secretary Ji.
After a few rounds of drinks, Secretary Ji gradually realized something was amiss. He shook his head and chuckled, "Old Chen, what's going on today? Just say what you want. Why are you constantly urging me to drink?"
Captain Chen laughed heartily: "What else could it be? Isn't this just a matter between two young people? Old Ji, my son has his heart set on your daughter. How about we pick a date and have them get married?"
