Chapter 70 Playing Matchmaker: I Have No Interest in Country Bumpkins

A casual remark stunned everyone in the private room.

Chen Jing subconsciously looked at Ji Xia. He had finally managed to coax her into agreeing, and he didn't want her to change her mind because of this one sentence.

Upon seeing Ji Xia's eyes, which held a mixture of annoyance and resentment, he was startled and immediately put on a smile, saying, "Manager Hu, you're joking. Miss Hu is so outstanding, how could she possibly be interested in a country bumpkin like me?"

Hu Man snorted coldly, but Manager Hu laughed dismissively: "Xiao Chen, you don't need to be modest. I can tell at a glance that you are capable and will have a bright future."

He patted Chen Jing on the shoulder, intending to offer some advice, but Chen Jing could only smile wryly and say, "Manager Hu, don't tease me. My family has already arranged a marriage for me. We're here today not only to deliver goods, but also to prepare the betrothal gifts."

Manager Hu was taken aback and glanced suspiciously at the two women beside him. Chen Jing immediately introduced them: "Ji Xia, my fiancée. We've already set a date and are planning to get married after the autumn harvest."

Ji Xia gave Manager Hu a shy smile at the opportune moment.

"You two are a couple? Xiao Chen, you're not being honest. Why haven't I heard you say that before?"

Manager Hu looked at Ji Xia in disbelief, but saw her smiling shyly. Although she was a country girl, she was fair-skinned and beautiful with delicate features. She had a faint scholarly air about her and she looked quite well-matched with Chen Jing.

His niece is not bad-looking either, but she doesn't have any advantage over the little girl.

Although they didn't say much, their occasional glances revealed their deep affection.

Manager Hu was somewhat annoyed. He had finally found a promising young man, only to have him snatched away like this.

So what if his niece isn't as pretty as others? She's from the city, and she's his niece. Isn't that a better status than a country girl? At least she can help him.

Chen Jing quickly explained, "Manager Hu, it wasn't intentional. I just felt there was no need to brag about it to others."

Hu Man complained, "Second Uncle, don't bother with this. I have no interest in these country bumpkins!"

The sharp, piercing sound completely destroyed the harmonious sounds in the room.

Chen Jing was angry, but another sharp voice rang in his mind: "If it weren't for me, you would be nothing more than a mud-digging peasant in the countryside now."

His face immediately turned grim. What was going on? Why was this strange voice suddenly coming to his mind, and why did it seem somewhat familiar?

Seeing that everyone in the private room was silent, Su Yujing quickly chuckled and said to ease the tension, "Uncle Hu, you're really playing matchmaker. I just introduced my cousin to Aman a couple of days ago, and they even went to see a movie together!"

"Really? Your cousin and Aman? That's great, that's good news. Why didn't Aman tell me?"

With Su Yujing smoothing things over, Manager Hu's red line was finally crossed, but the atmosphere in the private room was still a bit strange.

Chen Jing had wine and dishes ordered, treating the group to a hearty meal and showering them with flattery before the matter was considered closed.

Ji Xia and Su Yujing exchanged contact addresses and saw off the two city heiresses.

Chen Jing accompanied Manager Hu back to the department store, where Manager Hu had just promised to give him another thousand yuan worth of orders.

However, because Chen Jing rejected his suggestion to play matchmaker, Manager Hu was unhappy and, upon returning to the department store, began to pick up Qiao.

"This order needs to go through the normal process. You need to prepare samples and drawings and submit them for approval first. Then we'll decide on the order quantity through a meeting..."

Chen Jing stared at him blankly for a long time: "Manager Hu, this isn't our first time working together, and it's never been this complicated before?"

"We skipped some steps before to give Boss Song face and to give you some confidence in our department store. Now that we've cooperated several times, it's time to go through the proper procedures..."

"Also, there must be eight different designs for the wedding dress. Even without embroidery, it must give off a luxurious and dignified feeling, and it can't be inferior to the designs we have today..."

Hearing this request, Chen Jing's face turned green. Ji Xia had told him long ago that the essence of the Xiu kimono lay in the embroidery. Now, she was clearly stating that they couldn't do the embroidery, yet she demanded that it not be worse than the ones they had done today.

Isn't this just making things difficult for someone?

Even so, no matter how much Chen Jing tried to flatter him, Manager Hu still refused, telling them to prepare several new designs and samples and send them over for the normal approval process before placing an order.

Chen Jing was furious. This old fox was flattering Miss Su so much, saying that she could have any design she wanted and he would place an order with her.

Now, Miss Su owes him a favor, but Ji Xia has given away the design drawings that he spent more than a week drawing for nothing?

This kimono was the design that Ji Xia put the most effort into. In the past, her designs had never been drawn with such detail and care.

Even so, he didn't dare to get angry at Manager Hu, and still had a fawning expression on his face, after all, there were still two orders that hadn't been delivered yet!

For these two orders to be successfully paid for, Manager Hu's signature was required, but the man's stinginess and grudge-holding were far beyond his imagination.

When Chen Jing left the department store and returned to his van, his handsome face was covered in black marks.

Ji Xia sat in the passenger seat, looking at his gloomy face, and asked in a low voice, "What's wrong?"

Chen Jing let out a heavy sigh before giving her a sullen smile: "All the blueprints you've been working on for the past week have been for nothing."

Ji Xia was stunned for a moment, while Chen Qiuyu asked in surprise, "What do you mean, 'painted for nothing'? Didn't he place an order for a thousand?"

"Now they refuse to place the order. They say they need to go through the normal approval process and ask you to prepare eight wedding dress design drawings and send them over as samples before they can confirm the order based on the samples."
