"Whether you have any ideas or not, we don't care. This is Sansheng Garment Factory, not a place for you to reminisce and reminisce. If you don't want to work, go back to your hometown."
Sun Xiaoyu casually pointed to the seat next to her: "Sit over and wait! You can stop working on the department store goods. Every piece you make is defective, covered in stitch marks from unraveling. They're unusable for delivery, and you're wasting so much fabric."
As Sun Xiaoyu spoke, she nodded to Chen Qiuyu and said, "No work, no pay. Remember to write it down later. By the way, payday is the day after tomorrow, so make sure the reports are clear."
Upon hearing that they would be receiving their wages, the female employees of the small workshop began to discuss among themselves.
The small workshop started last month. The management set a date for paying wages on the 10th of each month, based on the previous month's salary.
The first batch of four female workers worked for a full month, not only completing the tasks set by the leaders, but also exceeding them.
Those who exceeded their quotas would receive extra pay. It was the first time these girls had come to the city to work, and they wanted to see how much money they could earn.
The group talked excitedly and worked even harder. Liu Xiaojiao waited and waited, but Chen Jing never came back. Worried that Team Leader Sun would not want her anymore, she finally softened and obediently started making children's clothes.
Even so, Chen Qiuyu gave her a scrap of cloth to walk around and sew shoe insoles, just as practice. He wouldn't let her do it even if she didn't get good at it.
Practice exercises don't count as work and don't pay you.
Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Liu Xiaojiao finally put away her frivolous thoughts and focused on her work.
Children's clothing, especially baby clothing, doesn't actually require much effort. The most troublesome part is probably sewing the patterns on the chest and legs, which really tests the sewing skills.
Sun Xiaoyu found another girl, Hou Fang's sister Hou Xiaoyue, who specialized in making complicated patterns, while Liu Xiaojiao spliced the front and back panels and the sleeves. In less than two or three days, she made hundreds of sets.
The managers were overjoyed to have such a large sum of money recovered from piecing together scraps of fabric that were about to be discarded, with hundreds of sets of children's clothing costing three or four hundred yuan each.
When Ji Xia went to work, she gave Liu Hongju and He Qiuying some instructions. After get off work, the two of them went to her yard and carried away a large bag of clothes.
Each set adds one yuan to the profit. The children's clothing is paired with bibs, hats, fun little bags, socks, gloves, etc., and each set is prettier than the last. Even the color-blocked sets are bright and pleasing to the eye.
The hundreds of children's clothes sold out almost immediately after being put on display, making Liu Hongju and He Qiuying extremely happy.
Unfortunately, they sell out so quickly that they can only restock once every two or three days.
Chen Jing handed over the factory affairs to Sun Xiaoyu and suddenly found himself with some free time.
Early in the morning, he took the money and the two people's household registration certificates to Aunt He to transfer the property.
However, there was a slight mishap during the transfer of ownership. Although the two were engaged, they had not yet registered their marriage, so the property could only be transferred to one person's name.
Upon hearing this, Chen Jing immediately registered the property under Ji Xia's name and then tidied up the yard.
They had someone come and repair the cracks in the wall, replaced a small portion of the roof tiles, applied cement and lime, reinforced the fence, and demolished and rebuilt some crooked sections.
Four large trucks slowly drove into the transportation brigade on the outskirts of the city, parked in the open space in front of the warehouse, turned off their engines, and stopped.
Ji Xiangjun opened the car door, grabbed a water cup, and jumped out of the driver's seat.
"Old Zhang, have someone move the goods. Oh, and save those wooden crates at the very back for me; we'll take them to the commune later."
Upon hearing this, Old Zhang from the warehouse grinned and said, "Don't worry, I understand."
Ji Xiangjun smiled relaxedly at Lao Zhang, then turned to the drivers of the cars and said, "I'm going to get some water to wash my face and loosen up before I go to the canteen. You don't need to wait for me."
The drivers laughed and walked away with their arms around each other's shoulders. Ji Xiangjun first washed his face, then took all the forms he had taken to the office to hand in his task, got the official seal, and then went to the canteen.
After returning from dinner, two hours had passed, and the cargo on the four trucks had been almost completely unloaded. Only then did Ji Xiangjun check his own truck and, sure enough, found four boxes remaining in the cargo compartment.
After getting a new small truck, Ji Xiangjun loaded four large boxes, each over a meter tall, onto it and drove back to the commune in a flurry, carrying his leave slip.
The small truck was parked in the alley outside the small workshop, completely blocking the alley.
When Old Man Sun heard the car horn outside, his expression changed slightly. He quietly opened the door and looked out, and was overjoyed.
He quickly opened the courtyard gate and said to the person inside, "Team leader, Manager Ji is back."
"What the hell? When did I become a manager?"
Upon hearing this address, Ji Xiangjun was startled and staggered. Looking up, he saw a pretty and quiet girl rushing out – it was Sun Xiaoyu.
Ji Xiangjun recognized Sun Xiaoyu. However, just over a month ago, Sun Xiaoyu was sallow and thin, with a timid and somewhat petty demeanor.
He had spent several years in the military and was attracted to women who were forthright, generous, and heroic.
However, after a month apart, Sun Xiaoyu seemed quite different. Not only was her pretty face rounder and her skin fairer, but she also appeared much more composed and poised.
Sun Xiaoyu hurried out and, seeing Ji Xiangjun's handsome figure, couldn't help but show her surprise and delight: "Brother Ji, you're back? What happened to the car?"
"We brought some fabric. Call Chen Jing over, and get a few more people to help move the goods."
As Ji Xiangjun spoke, he opened the truck bed, only to see Sun Xiaoyu calling out to everyone inside, "Everyone come out and unload the goods, another shipment has arrived."
Seven or eight girls ran out laughing, but when they saw Ji Xiangjun's expressionless face, their laughter stopped and their eyes showed a hint of timidity.
Everyone knows that this small workshop was set up by Ji Xiangjun, who is their big boss. Naturally, people behave themselves when they see him.
Someone whispered, "Second Brother Ji, you're back."
"Yeah, you're back. Let's move the goods. Where's Chen Jing?"
Sun Xiaoyu quickly explained, "Comrade Chen Jing has been out running around looking for business and orders lately, so he's not in the workshop much. We girls can handle the moving; we're capable."
As she spoke, Sun Xiaoyu walked to the back door of the carriage, looked at the several boxes inside, and shouted to the girls, "Sisters, come in groups of four. There are only four boxes, so we can carry them in in two trips."
The eight girls indeed split into two groups, four of them carrying one box, panting as they carried it into the yard.
The box, which was over a meter tall, looked quite heavy. Sun Xiaoyu asked suspiciously, "Brother Ji, is it all made of cloth?"
"Yes, one box contains twenty-four horses, four boxes contain ninety-six horses. I brought them all back from out of town. They're all clearance stock. Here's a price list. You can look at it and calculate the cost."
Ji Xiangjun retrieved a price list from the driver's seat and casually asked, "How's the workshop doing this past month? Has work been able to get started?"
