Chapter 25 Self-Rescue

Seeing that everyone was busy, the captain stood resolutely in front of the cockpit, using his superb skills to control the mech, trying to avoid the Zerg's fatal damage to the starship, while simultaneously sweeping fire from all directions to defend himself.

Soon, mechs appeared one after another around the starship, and under the cover of the starship's firepower, they continuously reaped the Zerg that tried to approach the mechs.

For a time, the Zerg could not get close, and the starship was almost repaired. Everything was developing in a positive direction, and everyone saw hope and worked even harder. After all, no one wants to die if they can live.

The Zerg Queen sat leisurely on the head of a Zergling, quietly watching the battlefield locked in a stalemate, without making any move.

The captain was unsure of its meaning; was it teasing the mouse, or... waiting for something?

...

Inside the safe house, everyone had just experienced a violent jolt, which interrupted their grief and injured many of them.

But no one complained anymore; at this moment, every little thing felt like a death countdown.

Click, the door opened.

The first mate rushed in. He was a strong, middle-aged man with a look of anxiety on his face. The passengers' hearts jumped. What was going on?

The vice-captain realized his lapse in composure, coughed, regained his composure, and spoke with a strong voice that echoed throughout the safe house.

"I am the vice-captain of the starship. Don't worry, everyone. All of us on board will do our best to protect your safety. However, given the current situation, it is still difficult for us to manage on our own. So we hope that you can work together with us to overcome this challenge."

The Zerg are launching a fierce attack, and our starship could be torn apart at any moment. Rather than waiting to be killed, we should take a gamble.

We need to integrate our mech resources, organize a strike, and fight for the lives of our more than two thousand crew members. Every additional mech warrior increases our chances of survival. In this life-or-death situation, I urge everyone not to hold back, but to bravely fight for yourselves. Mech warriors, are you willing to step forward and fight alongside us to carve a bloody path through this crisis?

Many people were persuaded and shouted, "Yes!"

The vice-captain nodded with satisfaction. "Very good! You're all tough guys. We won't treat you unfairly. After the mission is accomplished, we will give each mech warrior a generous reward. Even if you unfortunately die, we will give your family the most generous compensation. Alright, now please come over and register. We will send the list to the company headquarters."

Upon hearing this, many mech warriors stepped forward. Everyone knew that sitting and waiting for death was not an option; they were all in the same boat and had to fight to the death.

After quickly registering the list, the vice-captain frowned slightly upon seeing that it was less than a page long. There were too few; in such a large safe house with over two thousand people, there were only 41 mech warriors.

He looked up and surveyed the area. "Is there any more? The more the better."

Upon hearing this, a thin boy raised his hand and asked in a soft voice, "I've learned a little, but I don't have a mecha. Is that okay?"

Lu Manman felt that she was pretty good at Star Heroes, but she didn't know if she could actually do it. Considering the current situation, she raised her hand and said, "I've also learned a little bit, but I don't have a mech."

That's not enough, but it's better than nothing. The vice-captain then asked, "Do we have any spare mechs here?"

Everyone shook their heads. This thing is expensive and requires a high level of skill to operate, so it's not something that non-mecha warriors would usually have on hand.

The first mate sighed and pointed to the doorway, "You all stand aside and wait for orders. If there's an opportunity, you can go up too."

Lu Manman and the little boy walked over.

The first mate pointed to a crew member nearby and said, "We also need therapists and repairmen, and the command center needs one too. If anyone is available, come and register with him."

Then he looked at the mecha warriors and said, "Alright, now please come with me, mecha warriors."

The door to the safe house opened and closed again. The vice-captain hurried along, learning about the capabilities of these mech warriors and quickly formulating a strategy in his mind.

Soon, more mech warriors appeared outside the starship, like a sharp sword guarding the lonely starship.

One by one, people approached the flight attendants and registered their names and occupations. No one dared to hide anything; now they needed to work together as one to have any chance of surviving.

"Hello! My name is Zhao Jianguo. May I ask your name?"

Seemingly to ease the tension, the boy who was waiting with Lu Manman started to awkwardly strike up a conversation.

"Hello! My name is Yunku."

Lu Manman carefully examined Zhao Jianguo. His face was sallow, and his thin chin and small body made him look malnourished. He also seemed timid and lacked confidence.

Zhao Jianguo felt a little uncomfortable under her gaze. After hesitating for a moment, he tried to start a conversation by asking, "How much mental strength do you have?"

Since she was known for her knowledge of mecha, Lu Manman couldn't very well say, "I don't know," and casually replied, "A-rank, what about you?"

Zhao Jianguo's eyes lit up. "What a coincidence, me too."

Seeing that Lu Manman was as thin as him and both had A-level mental strength, Zhao Jianguo seemed to have found his tribe and started talking non-stop.

"This is my first time leaving a garbage planet and my first time on a starship. I'm going to find my biological father. My father was very good to me. I never thought I was adopted until he told me before he died. He repeatedly told me to find my biological father. I know he was afraid that I wouldn't be able to survive alone on the cruel garbage planet. Even though he was so badly injured, he still dragged his injured body to ask for help to test my mental strength and taught me some mechs. He just wanted me to live well. He protected me so well and did so many things for me. But, but it seems that I can't do what he wanted."

Zhao Jianguo choked up several times when talking about his father.

After venting his anger, Zhao Jianguo quickly realized his loss of composure. He wiped away his tears and said, "I'm sorry you had to see this. I know you might think I'm strange, but I was afraid that if I didn't say it, I wouldn't have the chance to say it again."

Lu Manman shook her head. Parents who love their children plan far ahead for them. Thinking of her own parents who once loved her but were gone, she envied Zhao Jianguo for having a father who always loved him.

Lu Manman patted him on the shoulder, "You're great. Let's work hard and live well together."

Zhao Jianguo was taken aback for a moment, then nodded heavily, "Okay!"

As soon as she finished speaking, the spaceship shook violently again. Lu Manman quickly huddled in a corner to steady herself and pulled Zhao Jianguo along with her.

After the jolt, cries of pain rose and fell.

Thud!

The door was opened again.

A flight attendant, covered in blood, rushed in, shouting, "Does anyone have any mental energy repair agents and stabilizers on them? We urgently need them!"
