Chapter 31 Barbecue
Tu Rongrong went to the forest and caught two pheasants. She then cleaned them by the stream. This time, she didn't perm the pheasants, but plucked the feathers and burned a fire by the river to burn off the fine down.
Because the fine down was singed off with an open flame, the pheasant's skin was inevitably a little black, but because the down was applied well it didn't have much of an impact, and perhaps it even gave the pheasant a barbecued flavor.
After Tu Rongrong cleaned the pheasants' feathers, he cut open their stomachs and took out all the internal organs. Tu Rongrong placed the two pheasants' bodies on a large leaf and began to process the internal organs.
Chicken hearts and livers only need to be rinsed with water, so they are not very dirty. As for the chicken gizzards, you need to open them, clean out the dirt inside, and tear off the inner membrane. The inner membrane of chicken gizzards is easy to tear off, but the inner membrane of duck gizzards must be scraped off bit by bit with a knife or a sharp bamboo stick.
After Tu Rongrong cleaned the inner membrane of the chicken gizzards, he put it aside, then took the chicken intestines and used a relatively round stick to turn the inside of the chicken intestines inside out and clean all the dirt on them. After that, Tu Rongrong found some fine sand and rubbed the chicken gizzards and chicken intestines together.
Tu Rongrong used sand to scrub off the layer of stuff on the gizzards and intestines, and the washed out stuff was a bit sticky. Finally, Tu Rongrong used the ashes from the fire he had just used to burn the pheasant feathers to scrub the gizzards and intestines, and soon they were clean.
After Tu Rongrong washed the pheasant clean, she carried it back to where they lived, and then started to light a fire and prepare to stew chicken soup.
Of course, Tu Rongrong did not stew the two pheasants whole or in pieces. She cut off the chicken heads and feet and put them in the pot, then removed the chicken heads and finally put the whole chicken skeleton into the pot to stew the soup. The soup made from the two pheasant skeletons was already very good.
The pheasant was also very large, and she didn't remove all the meat from the bones when she was carving the meat, so the stew was still very good. After the chicken soup was boiled over high heat, she slowly turned it to low heat and simmered it. Because she had prepared a lot of water, she didn't worry about the soup drying up after a few hours of slow cooking.
After the chicken soup boiled and simmered, Tu Rongrong looked at the chicken she had chopped off. When she'd caught the two chickens, Tu Rongrong had chosen large ones, each weighing over ten pounds. While they were common animals, not exotic beasts, pheasants on Aquamarine could also weigh over ten to twenty pounds, sometimes even over thirty.
The two pheasants Tu Rongrong caught weighed about thirty pounds in total, and after removing the meat, the remaining skeleton weighed about ten pounds. As for the chicken, Tu Rongrong saw that it weighed about twenty pounds. She thought maybe she could make some fried chicken?
Tu Rongrong marinated the chicken with salt, cooking wine, and a lot of spices. She'd prepare the fried chicken later that evening, but now was the time to marinate. As for the chicken skin, Tu Rongrong frowned slightly. Perhaps roasting it would taste good?
So, after slow-cooking the chicken soup over low heat and marinating the chicken fillets with seasonings, Tu Rongrong took two larger chicken skins and grilled them over charcoal fire. She brushed them with salt and seasonings, and soon the fragrant aroma came out.
Chicken skin is not something that can fill your stomach, and she only eats it by coating it with fluff and roasting it because she is greedy, so she stares at the chicken skin in her hand and swallows her saliva.
"What are you baking?" Tu Che, who had already made the rice milk machine that Tu Rongrong needed, came out and saw Tu Rongrong squatting by the stove. Seeing that she was holding something in her hand, he asked curiously.
"I'm roasting chicken skin." Tu Rongrong looked up at Tu Che and said, "I just caught two chickens. I've removed the meat to make fried chicken fillets, and the bones are being used to make soup. I didn't know what to do with the remaining skin, so I roasted it and ate it."
Tu Che looked at the golden chicken skin in Tu Rongrong's hands and nodded, "It smells delicious."
"Yeah, barbecue smells good." Tu Rongrong nodded. "Whether it's meat or vegetables, as long as it can be grilled, the taste is still very delicious."
"Well, the grinder you need is ready. Can you grind the rice slurry?" Tu Che asked.
"Alright?" Tu Rongrong said happily, but as she spoke, she held up the almost roasted chicken skin in her hand and said to Tu Che, "Come on, let's eat this chicken skin first, let the rice soak for a while, and then we can grind the rice into rice paste."
Tu Che shook his head helplessly as he looked at Tu Rongrong. Although he felt helpless that his young lady was so disregarding the important point, he was also very greedy for the chicken skin, so he took the chicken skin handed to him by his young lady and started eating it.
The chicken skin was roasted until crispy, and with the addition of the fluffy sauce, it was particularly delicious when eaten. The sound of the crunching chicken and the rich aroma of the sauce made Tu Che close his eyes.
Tu Rongrong and Tu Che each ate a piece of chicken skin and finished it quickly. When they finished eating and were about to grind rice milk, Tu Yuanyuan woke up.
Tu Rongrong couldn't help feeling guilty when she saw her chubby-faced sister. She felt a little guilty for secretly eating chicken skin with Uncle Che behind her sister's back. But when she thought about her sister who was only two years old and couldn't eat barbecue or greasy food, she felt justified again.
"Okay, rinse your mouth. Sister will give you some fruit." Tu Rongrong said while holding her lovely sister, holding a bamboo cup for her sister to rinse her mouth.
"Yeah," Tu Yuanyuan, who had just woken up and was still a little dazed, took a sip of water from the cup obediently. She rinsed her mouth and spit out the water under the guidance of her sister, and then received a big apple from her sister as a reward.
As someone who doesn't particularly like apples, Tu Rongrong couldn't quite remember why she didn't like apples when she saw her sister happily munching on one. Was it because apples weren't tasty? Or was she feeling a bit sick from eating too many?
Tu Rongrong's face turned green when she thought about how there was nothing delicious to eat in the end times except some fruits and corns to eat.
Honestly, she didn't know how she managed to survive for years on just fruits and some grains. Even though she was a vegetarian rabbit, she loved meat after becoming a spirit. Without meat, she kept munching on fruits and vegetables. She was going crazy, wasn't she?
However, Tu Yuanyuan had no idea what her sister was thinking. She held the apple, which was almost as big as her face, and ate it slowly, looking very satisfied.
