Chapter 199

"Old Lu, are you blaming us for not being truly on your side back then, or for us two old friends not coming to see you, or for us causing Yuan Hong's death?"

Bai Shan sighed and stepped into the room through the door.

Seeing his two old friends continue to play dumb, the anger that had been building up since Lu Yuanhong's accident finally erupted.

Grandpa Lu's face was dark, and he sneered, "How dare I blame the two legion commanders? I'm just an old and weak coward."

He Zhang stared at Grandpa Lu's face for a moment, his expression calm but with a hint of forbearance. "Old Lu, I'm a rough man, not as eloquent as you and Bai Shan. Just say what you mean directly, don't be so cryptic. Who are you trying to imply?"

He paused, sighed, and covered his face. "I admit, when Yuan Hong died, my first reaction was indeed to use one of my own men to take his place. I was a bastard for that, but we're all soldiers, you can't let your emotions get the better of you, right?"

Grandpa Lu didn't go to see He Zhang, and he didn't even pay much attention to what He Zhang said.

I was just counting the frost flowers on the window frame.

He spoke in a flat, even somewhat disgusted tone.

“On the day the Control Yuan had its incident, I spoke with the Director of the Control Yuan and he said that the documents submitted by Lu Yuanhong never even reached his hands; they were taken away by someone else.”

He Zhang was somewhat confused as to why the matter of the Censorate had been brought up.

"No, Lao Lu, what do you mean?"

"Later, on the day of the verdict, I was not surprised by the result. After all, apart from the exposed information, most of the materials found during the search had been destroyed. At first, I thought that perhaps the Empress did not want the Lu family's reputation to be too high and deliberately suppressed it. So I started to investigate quietly."

At this point, Grandpa Lu turned to look at Bai Shan and He Zhang, his eyes clear as mirrors, still holding a faint smile as he looked at the two of them.

It's like telling a story: "Guess what I found out?"

Bai Shan pursed his lips. "Old Lu, stop keeping us in suspense. If there's really something going on, we're all brothers, how could we not help you? Yuan Hong is someone we've watched grow up."

Grandpa Lu still ignored him and opened the window directly. The howling north wind, mixed with heavy snowflakes, rushed into the house without mercy.

It shattered the spring-like warmth in the room.

"At first, I was very curious about how a first-level clerk could obtain these confidential cases. Later, when I found out, I realized that someone deliberately wanted him to obtain them in order to cover up the news of the lost evidence and catch the Control Yuan off guard. The tactic of 'besieging Wei to rescue Zhao' was really effective."

He Zhang couldn't stand the oppressive atmosphere in the room. "Old Lu, just say what you want to say. Don't be so strange."

"Heh~"

Grandpa Lu looked at the two of them with disappointment in his eyes. At first, he didn't believe it, until Cole's live broadcast of the insect swarm attack. He saw something he shouldn't have seen. Perhaps the other party was too complacent.

“You all watched Yuan Hong grow up, that’s true. If you hadn’t watched him grow up and known his potential was so high, he probably wouldn’t have died such a gruesome death.”

Grandpa Lu looked at his personal terminal, the two of them exchanging perfectly coordinated glances, and then dropped another bombshell.

"The Oversight Council's files contain evidence of collusion between the Keynes Group and the military, which was eventually taken away by people from the military. Tell me, who in the military has the right to take away the Oversight Council's files?"

After listening for a while, He Zhang finally understood, his face turning red. "So after all this time, you suspect me and Bai Shan?"
