Chapter 657

The royal family members felt somewhat embarrassed by Gu Luobing's defense, but what could they do? The Empress wanted to see Lu Yulan, and they were merely her subordinates.

"I'm sorry, Minister Gu, but His Majesty's orders... we must..."

“I said I’m busy, and I mean it. What are you guys doing all this time? I’m going to go check it out. You guys stay here, okay?”

Gu Luobing turned and left. Su Guo and the uncle exchanged a glance and breathed a sigh of relief.

...

Gu Luobing pushed open the door and went directly into the temporary royal office.

A sobbing sound was heard, and Sophia was seen clinging to the Empress's arm, crying incessantly.

"Mother, is he your illegitimate child?!"

"I don't want to live anymore."

As she spoke, Sophia was about to rush out, but the Empress grabbed her arm. Seeing Gu Luobing enter, she had no time to worry about anything else.

"Don't worry, my daughter, she's not my illegitimate child. That's a thing from the previous generation. I'll tell you about it in a couple of days."

Sophia: "I won't listen. The royal family can only have one princess, me. If there's another one, I'll kill myself."

He strode out with a proud and imposing air. The Empress looked at the mess in the room and helplessly rubbed her forehead.

After calming down for a while and regaining her composure, she looked at Gu Luobing.

"Why did you come here? Shouldn't you be spending time with your Professor He, all lovey-dovey?"

"Of course we need to, but I went to the Starry Sky Battlefield a while ago and just came back with Xiao Lan'er. We happened to run into the royal guards who were about to pick up Xiao Lan'er."

Gu Luobing sat down directly opposite the Empress. "Regardless of who was right or wrong back then, Xiao Lan'er is innocent now. Your power struggle with the Lu family has already hurt her once."

"Now, can you let her go?"

The Empress stared silently at Gu Luobing, and after a while, Gu Luobing began to feel uneasy. "What are you doing?"

The Empress threw a large document at me, saying, "It's not that I'm not letting her go, it's that kind-hearted little Lan'er you mentioned who's not letting me go. Why don't you take a look at this draft your father prepared, the plan for becoming the next Empress?"

The Empress stood up, poured herself a glass of water, and then slowly observed the changes in Gu Luobing's expression. She was also shocked when she first saw the document; it was the first time she had realized that there were so many forces in the empire opposing her.

But now that the other party has come in person, she feels a sense of relief.

"Have you finished watching?"

As Gu Luobing looked at the documents inside, some of which were so detailed that they involved royal secrets, she couldn't help but feel a chill run down her spine.

If Principal Gu hadn't been to Rose Star, perhaps she could have believed that this matter had nothing to do with Lu Yulan.

But now...

She strongly doubted what Lu Yulan's purpose was in going to the Starry Sky Battlefield.

It seems she was betrayed by someone she trusted.

The document was drafted three days after they left Rose Star.

"I think there might be something going on here. I'll go find Xiaolan'er and ask her about it. So, what are your plans now?"

The Empress didn't speak, but with just a glance, Gu Luobing understood: she would only leave the Su family's throne to Su Feiya, not to any outsider.

"Don't do anything rash. You know best what the Lu family's army is like. Xiao Lan'er has Lu Yuanhong behind her. Do you want to be betrayed again?"

The Empress put the cup aside. "If she wants to play, I'll play along. At worst, the empire will continue to be divided. I'm sure Bai Shan would love to cooperate with me. There are no fixed enemies in this world."

Gu Luobing gasped, "You're crazy!"
