Chapter 38: Teacher Wu is in trouble (2/2)

Tong Min: "This happened so suddenly. When I got off work yesterday, my mom told me that Teacher Wu had passed away. It was so sudden. I went to look for him early the next morning, but couldn't find him!"

Jin Weiguo's face turned grim. After a while, he said, "No, I have some old friends at home. I'll go ask them. I'll go home first."

Tong Min: "Let's go to my house first, Weiguo. Your house is such a mess now. I don't know if you can move in!"

Jin Weiguo: "Let's go over there and see first, they can't do anything to me!"

When they arrived at the place, they found that Teacher Wu lived in a small courtyard with three families living in it. It could be considered a large courtyard, but there were only three families living in it because the courtyard was small.

Teacher Wu lived on the east side of the yard, in two east wing rooms with a small side room.

Su He guessed that this small auxiliary room was probably built later, and it looked obviously much shorter.

When the other two families saw Jin Weiguo and his family coming back, one of them came up to greet them, while the other family went in, closed the door and didn't say a word.

Su Hemingqi, now my mother-in-law has been taken away for tea, and I don’t know what the situation is. This family is trying to protect themselves and are afraid of getting into trouble.

The small auxiliary room is the kitchen. There are two rooms, the inner one is the bedroom and the outer one is the living room. It is quite spacious for Teacher Wu to live alone.

But the doors and windows were wide open, and it was obvious that someone had just ransacked the place. The tables and chairs inside were out of place, and the bedding and wardrobe doors were in a mess.

Tong Min helped to tidy up the tables, chairs, beddings, etc. The family next door also sent a coal ball to start the fire and helped to light the stove. Coal ball stoves are used for cooking here.

Su He first tidied up the three children, washed them, and then gave them a bath before going to bed at night.

The neighbor next door was very nice. Seeing that there were four children in the family, Su He quietly packed four egg cakes, took the kettle and went to ask for some hot water from the neighbor next door. After some arguing, the neighbor next door accepted it.

Of course, Su He's purpose was not just to get this little bit of hot water. She also wanted to find out about the circumstances of her mother-in-law being taken away yesterday.

The old lady next door knew Su He: "Xiao Su, you haven't been here for a few days. When you came to visit your aunt's family before, several families in our area wanted you to be their daughter-in-law! It's a pity that Old Wu got his way!"

Su He: "You know me! A few days ago, I got hit on the head, and after I was discharged from the hospital, I didn't remember or recognize anyone! Look..."

The old lady said: "Oh, my dear daughter, have you committed any serious offense in your family? If you go out, Old Wu will also be in trouble!"

After she finished speaking, she realized she shouldn't have said that and quickly tried to make amends: "I just wanted to remind you, but nowadays, we're not allowed to engage in feudal superstitions! I just said that casually... You should hurry home. The water was boiled this morning, so it probably won't be that hot!"

Su He: "Grandma, I just want to ask, who came to our house yesterday and took my mother-in-law away? Do you know her?"

Old Mrs. Cai hesitated for a moment, then glanced outside the door before whispering, "It wasn't anyone else. It was those people from Liancheng who were the first to raid our house and rummage through our belongings. Just ask around and everyone will know. But we can't just confront them head-on! They're not human, and we still have to make a living. Your three children are so handsome! Having three children like you is better than anything else!"

Su He: "What's that person's name? Can you tell me? I have an idea."

Old Lady Cai: "Kan San'er, who doesn't know him? He's the one with a bunch of clueless bastards, tinkering around all day long! But that day, there was a guy who didn't look like he was in the same group. Kan San even scolded him, blaming him for not understanding the situation and wasting their time..."

The old lady thought for a moment and then said, "Yes, that's a skinny little monkey with a pointed face and monkey cheeks. He's very skinny, and his eyes are naughty and he looks like a monkey! He's called Xiao Lizi! Yes, that's the name, Xiao Lizi!"

Su He: "Did that group of people take anything away when they came to our house?"

The old lady said: "I didn't see anything taken, but I don't know if they took any valuables... They took it quietly and put it in their pockets. We can't open it to see!"

After Su He got the answer she wanted to ask, she went back with the kettle, took out malted milk from her bag, and made a bowl for the three children and three adults.
