Chapter 80: Custody Battle (2/2)

Su He smiled, and followed their request, making a few "Pooh" sounds.

When Dazhu returned to his room, Master Yuan sighed, "Every family lives like a family with gold and a scale outside! You're willing to spend money on food and clothing for your children, and everyone can see it. Dazhu goes out to play with other children his age, and there's nothing fancy about them. And you use adult fleece jackets and trousers to alter the children's clothes, and everyone knows it!"

Su He looked at her mother-in-law's face guiltily. Teacher Wu helped explain to Teacher Yuan, "It depends on whether the father is willing to spend money on it. If he is willing to spend money on the child, which family in this courtyard can't afford it?"

Teacher Yuan nodded. "Who says it's not? It's Old Yuan. He's been given a lot of clothes. My brothers and sisters at home don't lack anything either. He doesn't have many people on his side either, so we have a lot of woolen clothes and trousers at home that we haven't worn yet. Someone came to ask me a while ago, but who should I give them to? If they want you to get a ticket, I'll have something to say. But if she wants to just take it away like this, I really can't tolerate her temper!"

Su He knew that Master Yuan had not revealed the man's name to save his face, but now that she heard it, it was not too unusual for her to alter the children's fleece clothes and trousers. Moreover, the sheepskin was sewn inside the clothes so that it could not be seen from the outside.

She knew her persona had already been established, and she had a bit of a broken jar mentality. She muttered to Master Yuan and her mother-in-law, "I'm going to town to find an old chicken this afternoon. It's getting cold, and keeping chickens that don't lay eggs is a waste of food. I guess someone can sell them. I have to buy two. I'll raise one to eat in a few days, and stew the other with fish maw overnight. I'll have chicken noodle soup tomorrow morning! That's the real deal!"

Teacher Wu nodded. "It would be more convenient if we also bought a car. You like to go to town to buy things all the time, and it's inconvenient to always borrow other people's cars."

Teacher Yuan said: "I have a personal train ticket at home. If you want it, I can give it to you."

Su He waved her hand: "Let's talk about it after a few days. I've spent a lot of money on making winter clothes for the family these days."

Yuan Shiqi: "Are you afraid you'll run away? Just use it first, and return it to me when you have money!"

"Then I have to see if the supply and marketing cooperative has any bicycles. There are definitely none in town, so I have to go to the city to see."

In the afternoon, Su He borrowed a bicycle from the Tan family again and went to town to buy things. This time, Lian Yue was not very happy: "Xiao Su, you spend all your money on food and clothes, why can't you afford a bicycle?"

Su He knew why she was unhappy: "I'm not unwell, who knows what will happen tomorrow, haven't you heard the saying?"

"What?"

"The person is gone, and the money is still gone!"

"Well, you're right. What are you going to buy in town?"

"I'm going to buy some radishes and dry them in the sun! I've been so hard on money lately. It's like 'I'm still alive even though I'm out of money', so I have to live frugally!"

Lian Yue, who had been acting a bit sarcastic before, lost her temper after being scolded by Su He: "Hurry up and leave, you are the one who decides whether it's right or wrong!"

Su He rode her bike around the town and actually bought a bag of white radishes. She didn't see anyone selling chicken, but since she had a mouth to feed, she could just ask, and she actually did ask.

Granny Cai, the vegetable seller, has an old hen at home that hasn't laid an egg for several days.

She went home to catch old chickens. When she came back, she brought another old lady with her, saying that she was her neighbor. Her chickens also stopped laying eggs, so she caught some and sold them to Su He.

Grandma Cai's old chicken weighed less than four catties, and she charged eight yuan per catty, for which she paid three yuan. The other chicken weighed three and a half catties, and she paid two and a half yuan.

Su He asked, "Mother-in-law, do you have any eggs at home? If you do, could you give me some?"

These people all saved eggs at home to exchange for money. An egg was six cents. The two old ladies said they had some. Not long after, they returned home with a small bamboo basket.

Su He bought another ten eggs from the two of them and paid three yuan.

After buying these, Su He went home and planned to make egg cakes for the children. She had never used the oven built by the doctor. Anyway, she was not in good health and was afraid that she would die tomorrow, so she might as well make something!

Su He originally thought that the matter between Caizhu and her sister was over, but she didn't expect that just after she returned her car and went home to pack her things, someone came to her house!

(The author has something to say: Let’s talk about it. If a girl is ten years old and another is seven years old, should the heroine raise the two?)
