Chapter 115: Halftime Break (1/2)

Chapter 115: Halftime Break

Su He was outside watching the fun and didn't go home.

The smell of the chicken soup stewed at home at noon could be smelled from far away. Teacher Wu said that the family would grind soybeans in the afternoon, so he ordered a basket of tofu for himself. When it was time for dinner and Su He had not arrived yet, he wanted to go out and call her home for dinner.

Jin Weiguo knew that these onlookers were all mothers, so he said to his mother, "Mom, Xiao Su must have gone to the Tan family in the west to watch the fun. You go over there and take a look."

The three children stayed in the house with their grandmother in the morning with the door tightly closed. They didn't hear any noise from the quarrel outside. Now when they heard that their mother had gone to watch the fun at someone else's house, they also clamored to go find her together.

Well, actually, I went to watch the fun!

Teacher Wu was patient and dressed the children. Jin Weiguo also put a thick cotton coat on his little girl and gave her a hat with ears before letting the three children go out with him.

When Su He saw her mother-in-law coming with her three children, she knew it was time for dinner at home.

At noon, I stewed some old-fashioned chicken soup, heated up some ready-made steamed buns, made a spinach and egg soup, and also had a dish of cold seaweed and fried dried fish.

She prepared the meal before she went out. The house was warm, so she didn't have to worry about the food getting cold. The rice and soup were hot anyway, and the old black chicken would taste better if it was stewed for a while longer. Jin Weiguo hadn't finished his work in the yard yet, so she went out to watch the fun.

When I saw my mother-in-law and three children, I realized that I was so engrossed that I forgot about time!

She said something to the people she knew and went home to eat.

Damao seemed unwilling. He had just arrived and didn't know what was going on.

Su He: "Many of your friends were here just now. When you finish your meal, come out and ask them and you'll know. It's good to know about other people's family affairs! Go quickly."

She took Xiaobao from her mother-in-law and the family walked home.

At the lunch table at noon, Su He briefly talked about the deeds of the Tang sisters and the two old ladies.

Teacher Wu hissed after hearing this: "These two children have really been raised astray by Cuiying! This little kid is so calculating!"

Su He remembered that Yu Cuiying had stolen food from her family before, so she couldn't help but mock Jin Weiguo: "Yu Cuiying is really smart!..."

Before she could finish her words, Jin Weiguo continued, "That's so cunning it's embarrassing! He collected food for our family and even stole our grain!"

Teacher Wu didn't know about this. When he heard about it, he was surprised: "There is such a thing?"

Da Mao: "Dad, can you go get the stolen food?"

Jin Weiguo shook his head: "Catch the thief and catch the dirty! We didn't catch him then, and after so long, even the evidence is gone. There's no way we can do this!"

Damao felt a little sad: "How much food was stolen? Is it enough for our family to have a meal of steamed buns?"

Seeing Damao's expression, Su He felt that she had said something out of turn. It seemed that she should not discuss adult matters too much in front of children in the future.

She then said, "Da Mao, this is Mom's fault. I used to always think about your uncle. If it weren't for Mom, our family wouldn't have lost the food. So, Da Mao, just think of it as Mom's fault, okay? Afterwards, are you willing to forgive Mom?"

Teacher Wu: "Xiao Su, why do you take everything on yourself? This happened so late! Everyone should eat, so stop talking!"

Damao raised his hand: "Grandma, can I say one more thing?"
