Chapter 5 saved them

A piercing alarm sounded all around. Because of the building's special features, there was an alarm at regular intervals. When all the alarms went off at once, the sound was deafening.

After the siren sounded, a pleasant female voice, slightly mechanical, said, "Please don't panic. Rescue teams have already set off. Please close the doors and windows and find a safe place to wait for our assistance!"

This little loudspeaker constantly broadcasts friendly messages such as patriotism, love for the Party, self-reliance, democracy, civility, harmony, freedom, equality, fairness, rule of law, dedication, and integrity.

Not only loudspeakers, but also the televisions they watched, the corridors, their rooms, and even the bowls they ate from were covered with patriotic propaganda, and many experimental subjects like Fang Hua were used as spokespeople.

"Please don't panic, everyone. The rescue team has already set off. Please close the doors and windows and find a safe place to wait for our help!" She repeated this sentence several times before Fang Rong realized that she was in great danger. These mutated beastmen and experimental subjects were very dangerous beings. They didn't care whether you had raised them or not. They were cruel and ferocious and could not be coexisted with.

Murder was both a very distant and very close matter to him, given the danger of his job.

He suddenly remembered something: every zookeeper had a key, like him or a new zookeeper. If his key was taken by another orc, the consequences would be unimaginable.

He quickly went to the new zookeeper to look for the key, but the result was not satisfactory.

The key has really been taken!

His first reaction was to lower the barriers of his own prison, otherwise he would be in danger.

Imagine Fang Hua taking the key and opening all the doors to the rooms, causing all the mutants to escape—that would be the end of the world.

Fortunately, he acted quickly. The room had three layers of protective shield, covering everything except the doors and windows, which put his mind at ease.

The first layer is special bulletproof glass, the second layer is railings, and the third layer is a wall-like hard material, which protects each mutant very well, otherwise it would be easy for some test subjects to escape.

A series of crackling sounds came from outside, mixed with other familiar screams. They were from his colleagues. It wasn't time to leave work yet, and both the day and night shifts were trying to make ends meet. Without any protection, they huddled together in twos and threes, and their scent could easily attract other mutants.

People kept running past his window, pursued by mutants. The thing he least wanted to happen still happened: Fang Hua let all the mutants go.

Some fled in all directions, while others played godlike roles, high above and plundering those who had once given them food.

Bang!

The third layer of protection was hit by someone. His colleague, who had helped him on duty before, had blood on his face and looked at him pitifully through the window, pleading, "Fang Rong, save me, I beg you, something is chasing me."

Fang Rong was taken aback. He hurriedly ran to open the door, saying, "Don't worry, I'll be right there."

He had just opened the first level when he suddenly hesitated. What if he didn't close it in time? Would a mutant come in and kill him too?

But Zhang Zheng was his colleague after all, and he would always help him whenever he needed something. Although they lived in different areas, the two had a very good relationship.

He gritted his teeth and opened the second and third layers of protection. So what if he died? He couldn't just stand by and watch his colleague die in front of him.

As soon as the door opened a crack, Zhang Zheng quickly climbed in and urged him to close it immediately.

The door was very intelligent; it could be opened and closed at any time. Fang Rong turned the key and pressed the close button, and the door slowly closed. As the two of them breathed heavily, even the last crack slowly closed.

Just as the two of them breathed a sigh of relief, the door suddenly made a jamming sound. A deformed hand was wedged in the crack of the door and used great force to open the entire protective door, revealing the body of a huge creature.

It was a mutant, not belonging to this area. Fang Rong didn't know what kind it was. It was from Zhang Zheng's area and had been following him to this area.

Once the mutants escape, their first targets are the zookeepers. Each zookeeper killed yields a set of keys, which can be used to unlock doors for their kind, releasing even more of them. So, the zookeepers are actually quite unlucky.

The mutant crawled towards them on all fours, its face contorted, its long tail deftly whipping up objects in the corridor and slamming them down with a thud.

It was a fire extinguisher, and because of the repeated impacts, a corner of it broke, causing the contents to leak out and creating a lot of smoke.

With everything around them blurry, Fang Rong pulled the flustered Zhang Zheng along, crawling on the ground as they slowly approached the door, preparing to find a chance to escape.

roar!

The mutant's view was blocked, and it roared in frustration. The roars of wild beasts were already loud, and in such a narrow space, they were almost deafening.

Although the two suffered greatly, neither dared to utter a sound in order to save their lives. In the quiet environment, the only sound was the pacing of the wild beast.

The sound of claws hitting the ground could be heard from time to time, and sparks flew as they sizzled as they approached them.

It's getting closer!

Zhang Zheng's breathing became increasingly erratic, and no matter how Fang Rong tried to comfort him, it had no effect. He was terrified and screamed in terror.

Hearing the sound, the beast lunged at them, its gaping maw emitting a stench. Fang Rong only had time to cover her head and use her other hand to shield Zhang Zheng beneath her.

roar!

The attack was delayed; instead, a crashing sound was heard, like something enormous hitting the wall. The room was filled with smoke, and visibility was limited. Occasionally, two rather large bodies could be seen entangled and fighting each other.

The fight between wild beasts was brutal. The air was thick with the smell of blood and stench. Two distinct roars echoed, and the surrounding walls thudded as two enormous bodies rammed into them.

It took Fang Rong a long time to realize that someone had saved them, or more accurately, a wild beast had saved them.

Who is it?

He felt an itch in his heart, like he'd been scratched by a cat, and desperately wanted to know who it was, who had saved them.
