Clumsy rumors
"We have screened 3,700 combinations of alternative elements, but we haven't found a combination that can eliminate the gamma toxin yet." A researcher in white clothes frowned in front of the light screen.
"Continue screening." Caesar was also wearing a neat and rigorous white lab coat. In front of him was a dead Zerg corpse. It looked extremely hideous and horrible, and it was emitting a foul smell. However, Caesar seemed to feel nothing at all. He inserted his gloved hand into the Zerg's abdomen, tore it open, and pulled out a strange red organ.
Countless threads of mental power overflowed from his palms and invaded his organs. Caesar concentrated on thinking, muttering something.
Behind Caesar, an intern medical student would occasionally look back and peek at Caesar. He was extremely curious about the master who created the legendary rare blue beast. The other party was short, small, and looked so delicate that he did not look like an authoritative scientific researcher at all.
Unexpectedly, as soon as the other party came here, he looked through all the information they had previously developed, and used his mental power to check the experimental insects. He immediately pointed out several research loopholes and led them to re-formulate the experimental plan.
It’s really amazing!
The intern couldn't contain his admiration and stared at Caesar's back in ecstasy. Suddenly, he felt a pain in his thigh and came back to his senses. It was his instructor who glared at him and said sternly, "Don't be distracted while doing the experiment. You must focus wholeheartedly."
"Yes." The intern lowered his head quickly, but his yearning for Caesar did not diminish in the slightest. Thinking of Caesar's young and handsome face, as well as his calm and composed temperament, his ears turned red.
I wonder if Master Xi Ze has a partner. Does he prefer men or women? I'll wait until the experiment is over and ask for a contact number...will that work?
At one o'clock in the morning, Xi Ze finally finished the work at hand. He stretched his stiff body, took the cup beside him and took a few sips of water. Just as he turned around, he suddenly found that there was someone who was working overtime until midnight today.
"Master Xi, Master Xi Ze, are you leaving?" The intern stopped what he was doing when he saw Xi Ze looking at him, and looked at Xi Ze with shining eyes. "You've worked so hard, is this okay for your health?"
Caesar thought for a moment. The intern's name was Miano. He was a very honest and steady boy. He worked diligently and had a low presence on weekdays. He didn't expect that he would stay up so late today. Did he have any questions to ask him?
Caesar was very fond of people who worked hard. He smiled gently and said, "Thank you for your concern. I'm in good health. Do you have any questions for me?"
"Ah, yes, yes." Miano grunted a few words, then lowered his head and took out a small notebook. It was full of experimental plans and data, and densely packed with notes. It was obvious that he had put a lot of effort into it. Caesar immediately had a deeper affection for him and answered his questions seriously.
At the entrance to the research institute, Moss wandered restlessly, a look of annoyance on his face. It was already half past one, why hadn't he come out yet? Didn't we agree to continue the experiment until one o'clock today?
Moss was afraid that something might happen to Caesar and wanted to rush in, but he was also worried that Caesar's experiment had reached a critical stage and rushing in would interrupt Caesar's train of thought and make Caesar's efforts go to waste.
After much hesitation, he could only silently give himself a psychological hint: Caesar must be doing an experiment, wait five more minutes, if Caesar doesn't come out after five minutes, he will go in.
As a result, within five minutes, the door of the research institute opened. Moss was delighted, but as soon as he looked over, the smile on his face froze.
Who is this brat who's chatting and laughing with Caesar?!
Miano was still secretly delighted at the harmonious conversation he had with Master Caesar. He was just about to take advantage of the situation and ask for Caesar's contact number when he suddenly saw Moss standing at the door of the institute and was startled.
Moss had a sour face and ignored Miano. He came up and grabbed Caesar's wrist. "Are you hungry? I have some cookies I brought from Wenxing."
Mianno couldn't help swallowing his saliva when he heard the word "biscuits". In the current Mousse Military Academy, anything edible is outrageously expensive, not to mention delicious snacks like biscuits, which are definitely a luxury.
But obviously, Moss would not be so kind as to share the precious cookies with him. Moreover, the cookies were made by him personally and specially formulated for Caesar's taste. No one else could have even a piece of the cookie crumbs.
Moss guessed correctly, Caesar was indeed hungry. He hadn't treated himself badly in terms of food for a long time. He didn't expect that after arriving on Mantu Star, not to mention the quality of the food, he couldn't even eat enough.
The food in the base was so scarce that even if Principal Churchill ordered him to be given priority, he would feel embarrassed to eat too much.
As soon as Moss mentioned "cookies", Caesar actually began to salivate reflexively, but he didn't show it on his face at all. He tilted his chin slightly, looking particularly cool under the moonlight.
"Then I'll be leaving first." Miano sensed Moss's vague hostility towards him. "Master Caesar, can I still ask you a question tomorrow?"
Caesar nodded, "Okay."
"Thank you!" Miano smiled and left happily. Moss also followed Caesar back to the dormitory. For some reason, the two of them walked in silence.
The dormitory is tight, and even though Yu Sheng and his friends are "distinguished guests", there are no single rooms, so they have to live in pairs.
Caesar originally shared the same room with Yu Sheng, but later Moss became Caesar's personal bodyguard, so Yu Sheng switched bedrooms with Moss so that Moss and Caesar could better coordinate their schedules.
Moss took out his own cookies, which still looked ugly. Caesar paused when he saw them, but said nothing. He took them and ate a dozen or so with water. Seeing that Moss was staring at him, he raised his eyes and asked, "Do you want some?"
Moss shook his head. "Eat it."
"Hmm." Caesar responded vaguely with a biscuit in his mouth. His cheeks were puffed up, which looked indescribably cute in Moss's eyes.
But Moss did nothing. He didn't even try to get close to Caesar with various excuses as he did before. Instead, he dutifully added warm water for Caesar, and after Caesar had eaten and drunk enough, he sealed the biscuits and put them away.
Have a good night's sleep.
The next day, at dawn, a piece of news spread throughout the campus:
Yu Sheng, a general of the Wenxue Empire, is actually a traitor to the interstellar world and has connections to the Zerg! He came to the Muse Military Academy this time under the guise of rescuing them, but in reality, he wanted to understand all the armed defenses within the Muse Military Academy and work with the Zerg to destroy them.
This news caused a huge sensation among the survivors. People in times of crisis are inherently fragile and will panic at the slightest disturbance. As soon as the rumor of Zerg betrayers came out, many restless people immediately formed small groups and blocked the dormitory building belonging to Yu Sheng and Legion, demanding that Yu Sheng respond.
The night wind was a bit chilly. The group of survivors, trapped in the dormitory building, had been clamoring all day, demanding that Yu Sheng respond to his conspiracy with the Zerg, and even provided "evidence":
A confidentiality agreement on the cooperation between Yu Sheng and the Zerg written in the Zerg language, with the unique mark of the Zerg King Olewell on it, which is impossible to imitate.
However, this group of people waited from morning to midnight, but not only did they not receive a response from Yu Sheng, they were also surrounded by ferocious combat students.
"What do you want to do?" The survivor, who looked strong on the outside but was actually weak on the inside, shouted as he shrank back inside.
The combat student rolled up his sleeves with a sinister grin and said calmly, "I heard you're going to seek justice from General Yu Sheng of the Wenxue Empire, and you're calling him a traitor to the interstellar world?"
"Yes, the evidence is right here!" someone else shouted, "You can't threaten us. This is against interstellar law!"
"Interstellar Law?" A very tall and strong combat student sneered, "If it weren't for General Yu Sheng, you'd all be talking about interstellar law with bug shit in the stomachs of the Zerg right now!"
"You, you!" The survivors' faces flushed red, not knowing whether they were angry or scared.
"What do you mean by 'me?'" The student unceremoniously reached out and picked up the most shouting survivor like a chicken. "Are your brains made for eating insect shit? If General Yu Sheng is a traitor, wouldn't he have just bombarded us with ten warships? How dare you still be here yelling?"
"But, but this evidence..." The survivors, who always believed everything they heard, now felt that what the combat students said made sense. But how to explain the agreement between Yu Sheng and the Zerg? The mark of the Zerg King on it was real!
"Bullshit evidence!" The student threw the survivor to the ground like trash. "Does that have General Yu Sheng's signature on it? What does a mere stinkbug mark mean? You've been taken advantage of, and you're still running around here. I don't know where you got the courage."
After saying that, this group of aggressive combat students clapped their hands and walked away, leaving the survivors who had huddled together in a circle to look at each other in bewilderment. After a while, they all dispersed.
The rumor storm was like a small stone thrown into a lake, which only caused a small ripple and then disappeared without even a sound.
However, inside the room, Yu Sheng, Moss and Caesar were seriously discussing the rumor.
"It's very strange and abrupt," Yu Sheng said. "There were no signs. The rumor just started happening, and the evidence just popped up out of nowhere."
"Someone must be behind this," Moss frowned. "But what's the point of spreading such low-level rumors? Who would believe such nonsense except for easily incited fools?"
"I can't guess the rest, but..." Caesar pointed his index finger at the Insect King's mark below the agreement in his hand, "I've verified this mark, and it's real."
"Does this prove that the Insect King Oleville is inside the military academy?" Yu Sheng took the agreement from Caesar and frowned in thought, "What's the point of the Insect King forging this agreement?"
"Whatever the purpose of the agreement, we must now find the traitor who spread the rumors." Moss narrowed his eyes. "It's obvious that Oleville is targeting you. Yu Sheng, don't act alone. Bring a team of special forces with you, just in case."
"That's not a rush." Yu Sheng curled his lips, his fingers gripping the mecha buckle on his chest, and smiled, "Bringing a team of special forces would alert the enemy. I haven't lured this Insect King out yet, so it's not good to scare him back."
"You want to use yourself as bait? I don't agree." Caesar frowned. "You know it's a trap and still jump into it. I think you are a fool."
Yu Sheng laughed, reached out and grabbed Caesar's neck, and kissed Caesar on the forehead exaggeratedly, "Alright my dear Caesar, I know you're worried about me, but don't you know how strong I am? Add to that the silver dragon you made, the only one in the galaxy, and even a hundred insect kings wouldn't be my match!"
"Don't underestimate the enemy." Caesar was still frowning. Moss, who was being treated as invisible, walked over with a sullen face and calmly pulled the two brothers apart. "Let's talk business, seriously. What do you think, could the person who spread the rumors be Duke Nanso?"
Moss successfully drew both Caesar and Yu Sheng's attention back to the main topic. Caesar asked, "You said it was Nansuo. Do you have any basis for this?"
"Uh..." Moss thought for a moment, "His movements were strange, but I didn't catch anything else. Maybe it was just a hunch."
"But if Nan Suo is involved with the Insect King, how could Lyle be alive and well?" Yu Sheng was puzzled. After all, blue beast flesh and blood is a powerful advanced item for the Zerg. Moreover, Lyle is a pure-blooded Blue Star, making his role even more prominent. "Could it be that he cooperated with the Insect King just to protect his beloved little pet?"
Moss and Caesar both shook their heads, saying they couldn't speculate, but Moss had dealt with Nan Suo several times, and he didn't think Nan Suo was such a loving person who would make a deal with a risky figure like the Insect King for a pet.
"Let's send someone to investigate the source of the rumor first," Yu Sheng concluded. "I'll find a chance to test this Nan Suo. If he's really one of the Insect Emperor's men, I'll have to rely on him to find this mysterious Insect Emperor!"
Two days later, the investigator who went to investigate the source of the rumor returned.
"General, we've investigated and found out that the original perpetrator of this forged agreement was someone under Duke Nansuo." The investigator informed Yu Sheng of all the information he had uncovered. "Also, Duke Nansuo has been frequenting Mousse Forest recently, ostensibly to oversee the training of his guards. The details of his actions are unclear."
"You've done a great job." Yu Sheng nodded in affirmation.
"Thank you, General!" The investigator saluted excitedly and left.
Yu Sheng held the information from the investigation, rubbing his index finger and thumb over the paper. He had evidence that Nan Suo was spreading rumors, but now was not the time to expose it. He had to meet with the Duke of Nan Suo.
Before Yu Sheng could come up with a reason, a subordinate came to report, "Duke Nanso invites you to visit the training of his guards in Mus Forest. I wonder if you are free."
Yu Sheng was stunned and did not respond immediately. Instead, he asked his subordinates to tell Nan Suo that he would go if he could free up his military duties.
As soon as his subordinates left, Yu Sheng ran to Caesar and Moss's room and told them about the invitation to the Hongmen Banquet.
"I have to go," Yu Sheng said. "This might be our only chance to capture the Insect King. But it's strange that Nan Suo, knowing I could figure out his identity, still dared to invite me so blatantly."
Moss added, "The rumors he spread were also very low-level, as if deliberately trying to trick you into investigating the source and then tracing it back to him."
"I guess this Nan Suo is playing a clear hand with you, taking advantage of your desire to find the Insect King." Caesar described it using Earth's poker terminology. "He's spreading rumors to make it easy for you to trace him, revealing that the Insect King is in Mousse Forest. The banquet is already set, and you have to go, whether you want to or not, because this is the only chance for the Insect King to show himself."
