Xia Wanning stroked the rain on her face, raised her head, and shouted in surprise:
“It’s raining, it’s finally raining!”
God knows how much the people of Kyoto longed for rain during these months of drought. They even set up altars to pray for rain several times, but it was all in vain.
The first few drops seemed to remind them to be prepared, because then came the heavy rain.
The rain was so heavy that everyone hurriedly carried their children to the corridor to shelter from the rain.
The door of the room was opened and the midwife came out. Xiao Hechuan walked forward quickly and wanted to go in and see Jiang Sui first.
But the midwife smiled and said:
"Congratulations, Master Xiao. Mother and daughter are safe."
A daughter, it’s really a daughter. Upon hearing that mother and daughter were safe, Xiao Hechuan could hardly control his tears of emotion.
He walked into the room, but did not rush to see his long-missed daughter. Instead, he looked at Jiang Sui first.
This time Jiang Sui was not tired and fell asleep. She was still awake. The first thing she said when she saw Xiao Hechuan was:
"As you wished, it's a daughter."
Xiao Hechuan squatted beside the bed, holding her hand tightly.
"Thank you for your hard work, Sui Sui."
Jiang Sui shook his head and asked the midwife to bring the baby over for him to see.
She was wrapped in a pink blanket. The little girl was not like other babies who were red and wrinkled when they were born. On the contrary, she was fair and had a smooth face.
Her name was chosen when her brother was born four years ago, Xiao Qinghe.
It was raining outside, and the sound was very loud. Jiang Sui asked if it was raining, and Xiao Hechuan nodded.
At this time, Xia Wanning came in and said excitedly:
"Sui Sui, you must have given birth to a lucky girl. As soon as she was born, there were lightning and thunder, and then it started to rain. Judging from the situation, I'm afraid it won't stop for a while. After working for so long, this rain is really a good thing. This is what they call a long drought followed by a downpour!"
When Jiang Sui heard this, she looked at her daughter who was sleeping soundly in her arms and thought that this might just be a coincidence.
Little did they know that many people in the city ran out of their houses and cheered in the heavy rain.
The rain lasted for a whole day and night before it stopped. The riverbed, which was almost dry, began to rise again. Every household had a well, and the water level returned to normal.
The dry and cracked land had long been barren of any grass, but after being nourished by the rain, new buds began to sprout again.
Xia Wanning felt that this was the blessing brought by Jiang Sui's daughter.
She told the Queen about this, and the Queen told the Emperor. When the Emperor heard this, he thought, since that's what she said, shouldn't he show some respect and give some reward to the Xiao Mansion?
Just consider it as giving face to Lord Xiao.
But soon, this news spread throughout Kyoto, and everyone was talking about the fact that the rain came with the birth of Minister Xiao's daughter.
They said her daughter was the reincarnation of a lucky star and brought blessings to the world.
The story was so fantastic that Jiang Sui was speechless after hearing about it. She thought, her daughter was so young, but they praised her so highly. She strongly disapproved of it. She just wanted her to grow up healthy and happy.
But, can she just stop the gossips?
But soon, Jiang Sui discovered that his daughter seemed a little different.
After she was born, she hardly cried or made a fuss, except when she peed or defecated, when she would cry a bit but without tears. Even when she was hungry she would just hum a few times.
When she was not sleeping, she would keep her eyes open and look around, her eyes full of curiosity. Every time she saw Jiang Sui and Xiao Hechuan, or when her brother held her in his arms and looked at her, she would smile.
Another time, she finally cried properly and no matter how she was comforted, she wouldn't cry. The reason was that Jiang Sui took a rag doll he made to play with her. She didn't know if she was uncomfortable or had a problem with the doll, but she burst into tears all of a sudden. Jiang Sui was so scared that he quickly threw the doll away.
Afterwards, a female doctor was called to come and see her, and she said she was doing well.
That day, Xia Wanning happened to bring the children to the mansion to play. The little girl was crying in the cradle and no one could comfort her until Helian Min appeared. He held the cradle with both hands, looked at Xiao Qinghe, and said to her, "Sister, don't cry."
The little girl looked at him, sobbed twice, and actually stopped crying. She even started laughing.
Later, as she grew up, Jiang Sui discovered that she was really smart. She could walk when she was just over one year old and learned to talk very quickly, but her speech was a little slurred.
Her father loved her like the apple of his eye, and she was very considerate of him. The first word she said was "Daddy". Her old father was so happy that he shed tears of emotion.
As she grew up, spoke more fluently and walked more steadily, Jiang Sui began to discover more differences in her.
Her daughter seems to have extraordinary abilities.
For example, she likes to talk to small animals, and she can even chat with a bird passing by.
And those little animals seemed to be talking to her, chirping all the time, but she couldn't understand what they were saying.
There are several birds living in the Xiao Mansion. Those birds have given birth to many little birds. The Xiao Qinghe family is prosperous.
She would often prepare some millet and small fruits to feed them. Even the fierce big wolf dog guarding the back door would become obedient and roll on the ground and act coquettishly when he saw her.
Jiang Sui finally couldn't help it, she asked Xiao Hechuan:
"Have you noticed that our daughter seems to have some superpowers?"
"I found out." Xiao Hechuan answered without thinking.
