Chapter 20
On the appointed day, Xu Wanyi arrived in Dongcheng District early. She lived near the West Second Ring Road, which was not far from Dongcheng District, but everyone knows the traffic situation in Beijing. If she didn't leave early, she might get stuck in traffic and no one knew when she would reach her destination.
Su Che arrived at the office early, but before she could even finish half of the processes accumulated in the internal system, it was almost time for the meeting.
Nowadays, state-owned enterprises are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their management. They even go so far as to require the CEO to review processes, making her spend most of her time reviewing them every day.
Su Che had long been used to it, but he still felt that he was wasting his life.
If Xu Wanyi knew how many processes Su Che clicked every day, she would definitely stop complaining about wasting her time clicking the mouse all day.
After Xu Wanyi and Deng Hui arrived, they were taken to a conference room on the second floor.
This meeting room is filled with the style of the 1990s. The conference table and chairs are a bit dark red, and there are many potted plants in the middle of the room, with red and green colors, giving off a strong sense of the era, which is very different from the style of Xu Wanyi's company.
When Xu Wanyi first came here, she felt as if she had traveled back in time.
However, she was noticeably calmer this time. Having met and negotiated with numerous state-owned and central enterprises over the past year, Xu Wanyi noticed that these companies generally shared a similar office style, becoming more modern the further north one went.
Well, how should I put it? To put it bluntly, it's just rustic! The further north you go, the more rustic it becomes.
She had seen Su Che here a few times before, but each time she felt that Su Che was out of place here.
Ever since college, she had felt that Su Che possessed a very sophisticated and elegant air, not the kind of air of a first lady, but a fashionable and modern kind of sophistication. The kind of air that, the moment you saw her, you felt she should be on the streets of New York.
It's still somewhat unbelievable that such a person has now risen to the position of general manager of Tonghua Group, a large state-owned enterprise.
"Hello, Mr. Xu! It's nice to see you again." Su Che's voice interrupted Xu Wanyi's thoughts.
"President Su, hello! Long time no see, congratulations on your promotion!" Xu Wanyi immediately stood up and said with a smile.
They already knew each other, so Wang Kan and Deng Hui didn't need to introduce them further. Once the attendees from both sides were settled, the meeting officially began.
Xu Wanyi quickly realized that this meeting was a typical state-owned enterprise meeting.
After Su Che started, Wang Kan, as the project leader, began by talking about national policies, then the positioning of them by higher management agencies, and then the status and role of their group. By the time they got to the specific plans, an hour had passed.
Next, Su Che began to ask Xu Wanyi about their group's situation, including its business lines, future plans, industry positioning, and so on.
"I heard that Mr. Xu is frequently traveling to Haixi these days? Is there any specific plan?"
Upon hearing the name "Haixi," Xu Wanyi glanced at Su Che, and their shared memories seemed to awaken at that moment.
"Yes, Mr. Su is very well-informed. Our group plans to focus on developing the East China region in the next few years. Haixi is an important city in East China, so I'm going there very often now."
There was nothing unusual about it; it seemed they were indeed going to expand their business, and had nothing to do with Li Ye. Su Che thought to himself.
"Did Mr. Xu go back to the school for a visit?"
"Not yet, I've been too busy with work and haven't had a chance to go. But if I had the time, I would really like to go back and visit."
"Oh dear, I forgot about that!" Deng Hui slapped his forehead. "President Su and President Xu are university alumni, both graduating from Haixi University, and even in the same year. Did you two know each other back in university?"
Deng Hui's response was perfectly timed. He mentioned that his boss and the other party's boss were college classmates, mainly for the benefit of the Tonghua attendees.
Classmate relationships can be very important in the workplace.
Only then did Wang Kan realize that President Su and President Xu of Leguang were classmates. No wonder they wanted to meet directly. Fortunately, he hadn't done anything out of line.
He unconsciously wiped his forehead, even though there was nothing there.
"Well, speaking of which, although Mr. Xu and I are not in the same department, we did have some interaction during our university years."
Su Che didn't shy away from the topic, a thoughtful smile appearing on his face.
Xu Wanyi wondered to herself, what did this mean? Others might not understand, but she understood it perfectly. She was hinting at her past with Li Ye.
"President Deng, let me tell you, your President Xu has changed a lot since college. Of course, she's still beautiful," Su Che suddenly teased.
"In short, Mr. Xu has become even better. We were so young in college, and young people always do some silly things. Now that Mr. Xu is in charge of Leguang and making strategic decisions, I don't think he will ever do those things again."
Xu Wanyi finally understood that Su Che was warning her not to let what happened back then repeat itself. It seemed that she knew Li Ye had become her lawyer and was afraid that their old feelings would rekindle.
"Mr. Su is joking. It's good to do some silly things when you're young, so that when you're older you'll know how to avoid them and not keep getting hurt."
"That's good, that's good."
Those around them were completely baffled. How could the two of them actually be catching up, saying things that were completely incomprehensible to everyone?
Su Che quickly changed the subject, letting Wang Kan start talking about the acquisition plan.
Wang Kan believes that the plan has many merits, but there are also some areas that need adjustment. However, because both parties have a consensus and are sincere, they will work together to complete these adjustments.
In short, it expressed a very positive attitude.
After he finished speaking, Xu Wanyi checked the time: 11:50.
She sighed. It seemed that besides warning her to stay away from Li Ye, President Su's main purpose today was to express a positive attitude. Specific matters would have to wait until next time.
Mr. Su, you don't need to warn me at all. I avoid her like the plague now. You don't need to worry about that; you'd be better off spending that time discussing the acquisition plan!
But that's just how these people are. Damn it! She couldn't help but curse inwardly.
"Mr. Xu, what do you think?"
After Wang Kan finished speaking, Su Che asked a question.
"Yes, I think what President Su and President Kan said makes a lot of sense. Let's proceed according to this plan. President Deng, please coordinate with President Kan. We must do our best to fulfill the instructions that President Su just conveyed."
"Yes, Chairman."
"How about this, Mr. Kan, you and Mr. Deng add each other on WeChat and form a temporary liaison team to discuss the details. When the time is right, Mr. Xu and I will meet again. Mr. Xu, what do you think?"
Su Che saw through Xu Wanyi's thoughts, so he gave her some practical benefits.
"Of course, no problem. I'm always ready to join the discussion if needed."
Just when things seemed hopeless, a glimmer of hope appeared. In the final stages of the meeting, some tangible results were finally achieved. Xu Wanyi thought to herself, "It wasn't a wasted day."
Su Che's arrangement indicates that the plan has officially entered their company's internal workflow.
This was definitely a huge benefit for Xu Wanyi, so she immediately expressed her opinion.
After some polite small talk and a few pleasantries, the two sides parted ways.
While they were competing against each other, Li Ye was still miserably analyzing a massive amount of data in Le Guang's conference room.
She knew the final draft of the report would be enormous and complex, so she divided it into several parts. Currently focusing on the new energy industry, she hopes to first conduct a comprehensive analysis of the existing dozen or so target companies, write a first draft within a month, and then select the best ones for on-site due diligence.
Of course, this order is a bit different from that of typical projects. Because Leguang Group had already conducted on-site due diligence on most of the target companies, she believed that it was most appropriate to start by writing the written report.
Because Zhang Gang's target is only that one company, he wouldn't allow every company to falsify information. Moreover, repeatedly conducting due diligence on the target company can easily arouse resentment, especially towards truly excellent companies, ultimately yielding little useful information.
Since the project started, Xu Wanyi has come to Haixi once a week, and the Li Ye team and the Le Guang legal team give her a brief progress report every Monday.
Even though they work in the same building, Li Ye only meets Xu Wanyi once a week.
Aside from work-related communication, the two had no other interaction. They both tacitly forgot that rainy night, just as they had forgotten that rainy night more than a decade ago.
Xu Wanyi didn't even intend to return the coat to Li Ye. She felt that since she had decided on her position and attitude, she should stick to it and prevent any actions that might create other possibilities.
Moreover, Li Ye had never asked her for a coat, which meant that her thoughts were similar to hers.
That night, her intimacy and domineering nature, that "goodnight," those gazes in the darkness—all were but lingering remnants of the past. They vanished completely at dawn.
Ever since Jiang Yu bumped into Li Ye and Xu Wanyi in the parking lot that night, she has been even more motivated to go to work, like the blazing sun in June.
In hopes of "bumping into" them again, she often volunteered to work overtime until the evening, but unfortunately, she never saw the two of them together anywhere again.
"Jiang Yu, bring me some food back."
It was lunchtime, and Li Ye wanted to finish reading the first draft of the report. He felt that going downstairs to eat would be a waste of time, so he called out to Jiang Yu.
"Attorney Li, why aren't you going upstairs to eat now?" Jiang Yu pointed upstairs and winked at her.
Li Ye looked bewildered. Go upstairs to eat? Where to eat? Suddenly he remembered Xu Wanyi's private restaurant on the 50th floor.
"That's Chairman Xu's private kitchen, do you think it's my cafeteria?"
Jiang Yu thought to herself, "You two are already like that, so can't that be your cafeteria?"
"Is it because Chairman Xu isn't here that you're not interested in going up?" Jiang Yu lowered her voice and asked mysteriously.
Li Ye's mind raced. What was going on? Jiang Yu was acting strangely. Had she discovered something? She went through everything that had happened since she started dealing with Xu Wanyi, making sure she hadn't revealed anything to Jiang Yu.
"What are you thinking? Chairman Xu is the boss. What would I do if I didn't have a job? Hurry up and buy some food."
Jiang Yu didn't get any information and left dejectedly. She sighed inwardly, thinking, "All that overtime was for nothing!"
If Li Ye knew that his gossip could make his lawyers willingly work overtime, wouldn't he be overjoyed?
At 2 p.m., Li Ye finally finished reading the first draft of the report and turned off his computer.
"Comrades, please take this opportunity to work hard today and take all these original documents to the respective subsidiaries, get them stamped, and keep them on file."
The new energy industry has finally reached its final stage!
Because they did not collect materials on-site at the target company's location, to be on the safe side, Li Ye and Jiang Yu checked all the basic information and then asked each of the subsidiaries that provided the information to affix their seals to confirm that the information was indeed provided by them.
There are four companies in total. These four subsidiaries form the framework for the future group's new energy business line, which Xu Wanyi hopes to build. The administrative headquarters of these four companies are all in Haixi, but except for one company which is near the Leguang headquarters, the other three are located in three different suburban areas.
Li Ye asked Jiang Yu, Liu Shuang, and Jin Haifeng to take the documents to these three places to get them stamped, while she herself took the documents to a company near the headquarters of Leguang.
After the assignment was given, the group immediately split up and got to work.
The company Li Ye was going to was the most important of the four subsidiaries, called Yuanda New Energy. Many companies were planned to be placed under its umbrella, so there was a lot of basic information. Li Ye used two super large 28-inch suitcases to pack it all.
Wang Du knew that Yuanda New Energy had already received instructions from the chairman to cooperate in stamping, so there would be no shortage of people stamping. However, he did not expect that Yuanda had so much basic information. When Li Ye finished packing and carried two boxes, he was really shocked and immediately decided to go with Li Ye.
"Attorney Li, you can go down first. I'll put this document back in my office and then come down to find you. We'll go together."
"Okay, then I'll go downstairs and wait for you."
Li Ye thought about it and realized that having another person to help was a good thing, as the box was indeed too big.
So, Li Ye dragged two huge suitcases down from the 21st floor, passed through the spacious lobby of the Leguang Building, and arrived at the back door, attracting the attention of many people along the way.
There were relatively fewer people at the back door, and finally, there weren't so many stares. Li Ye casually found a spot, stood with his back to the wall, put his suitcase down, and took out his phone to check information.
Before I could read more than a few messages, I was interrupted by a voice.
