Qin Yuyang didn't have much contact with the mercenaries, even though she had seen them many times in Qihuai County, but they didn't have much conversation.
Furthermore, Tang Huan didn't elaborate on the situation of these mercenaries, only knowing that these people had mysterious identities, were quite powerful, and could do anything as long as they had enough money.
After Tang Huan shouted, more than a dozen mercenaries jumped out from inside the wall and faced off against a similar number of assassins.
"Alright, let them handle the rest. Let's head back to the manor first."
Tang Huan appeared quite relaxed after seeing the mercenaries appear.
He waved to the crowd, signaling them to follow.
The mercenaries started fighting as soon as they met their opponent.
The assassins wanted to stop Tang Huan and complete their mission, but almost every one of them was blocked by someone, leaving them powerless to stop him.
There was nothing these people could do as Tang Huan passed by.
"Oh, and remember to leave a few alive; I need to interrogate them."
As they passed by the battlefield, Tang Huan spoke without any emotion, saying something that was neither sad nor happy.
They then continued walking forward, unwilling to linger there any longer.
Just as Tang Huan was about to leave with his men, an assassin suddenly became enraged and, ignoring the attacks from the mercenaries around him, handed a dagger to Tang Huan.
The speed was so fast that everyone was caught off guard and had difficulty reacting.
Li Daikui and Qin Yuyang were the first to notice this, and they both took the same action: to stop it.
Just as the two were about to get close, a loud "bang" was heard.
Immediately afterward, the man in black in front of him went limp and collapsed to the ground.
Qin Yuyang felt as if his ears were about to go deaf, buzzing loudly.
I had already heard a gunshot while I was in the square, but because I was at the very back of the square, the sound wasn't very noticeable.
But then a gunshot rang out just a step away from him, and he realized that the noise was far too intense.
Tang Huan calmly put away his weapon and glanced at the men in black in the arena.
"You're asking for death! Bring everyone back. Since you've come to kill me, you'd better be prepared to die a horrible death."
Tang Huan returned to the mansion and moved a grand chair to sit under the eaves.
The weather was quite nice during the morning competition; it was sunny and clear.
But by then, dark clouds had already gathered.
"Tell me, who exactly wants me dead?"
Tang Huan gently rocked the chair, her body swaying up and down.
"Who is this person who can't even wait for me to win the game for Daqing and earn some money? They're in such a hurry."
Who could it be?
Hearing Tang Huan's sigh, Qin Yuyang began to speculate.
Northern Regions Mission?
The lineage of the prime minister?
Or are they people with mysterious identities that have not yet been revealed?
Tang Huan has been too conspicuous in the capital lately, so it's hard to say who might secretly try to harm him. But considering the current situation, the most likely culprit is the Northern Region delegation.
Because of Tang Huan's incident, the Northern Region delegation can directly reap the benefits.
Even though Cui Renshi and his group didn't like Tang Huan, losing the match against the Northern Region would not benefit them at all, and doing so would also bring them enormous pressure and risks.
"It's most likely a delegation from the Northern Region."
Qin Yuyang said, somewhat uncertainly.
Tang Huan nodded. "That makes sense, but this time it shouldn't be the same group that attacked that night."
"Why?" Li Daikui asked, puzzled. "Weren't the assassins wearing the same clothes both times?"
"I think you've been living too peacefully in Qihuai County these past few years, which has made you a bit dim-witted," Tang Huan scolded. "If I asked you to assassinate someone, would you show your face and reveal your identity directly?"
“Of course not!” Li Daikui said directly.
After saying that, he realized he had done something stupid. If he wouldn't do that, then these assassins certainly wouldn't either.
Li Da Kui speculated, "Was it Cui Renshi's men last time? We had just left their banquet when we were assassinated..."
"That time it was most likely Cui Renshi who did it, but this time it's not so certain."
"Why do you say that?" Qin Yuyang asked.
Tang Huan took a cup of hot tea from Xue'e and drank half of it in one gulp. He squinted and smiled, "If we win the competition, the Northern Region will send us a lot of wealth. As the prime minister, Cui Renshi has many opportunities to manipulate things and make a fortune. But if Daqing loses, everyone will have a hard time for a while."
Qin Yuyang stared at Tang Huan for a while and found that his eyes were clear and his speech was logical, not at all like someone who was drunk.
She was completely different from when she left Chunfeng Tower; it was as if she were a different person.
This made Qin Yuyang suspect that Tang Huan was not drunk at all, but was just pretending to be drunk at the time.
"If it's not Cui Renshi, then it must be the Northern Region delegation." Qin Yuyang said somewhat uncertainly, "There can't be someone in the capital who wants to harm you, can there?"
"It's hard to say!" Tang Huan sighed.
Judging from his tone, he had not doubted the Northern Region delegation, or at least the possibility of those people being involved was very low.
The group waited inside the mansion. In less than a quarter of an hour, the mercenaries returned with a group of men in black, some unconscious, some cursing incessantly, and some with blank expressions.
The mercenaries dragged the group of people to Tang Huan and kicked them hard in the shin, forcing them all to kneel before Tang Huan.
"Sir, there were twenty-two assassins in total. Four were accidentally killed during the attack, and six others are unconscious..."
Tang Huan waved his hand and looked at the crowd of people with different expressions in front of him.
He asked with a smile, "Tell me, who sent you?"
The tone was flat and calm, without any questioning, as if it were a trivial topic.
The person closest to Tang Huan gritted his teeth and glared at him fiercely, "Stop dreaming. Even if I die, I will never tell you everything you want to know. Give up."
Tang Huan shook his head and sighed, "He's got a tough tongue. Help me knock his teeth and see if he still has such a big mouth."
Upon receiving the order, Li Daikui immediately volunteered.
He casually took a short knife from a mercenary, gripped it in his hand, and slammed the hilt hard into the mouth of the assassin from before.
A painful whimper rang out, and at that moment, a handful of teeth fell out, and his mouth was full of blood.
Li Daikui looked down, reached out and pinched the man's chin, then tapped it a few times without hesitation.
After confirming that all of the other person's teeth had fallen out, Li Daikui nodded in satisfaction, "Sir, it's done."
Tang Huan didn't speak, but glanced at the others.
With just one glance, the others immediately trembled, not even daring to look at Tang Huan, fearing that they too would be targeted by this ruthless person.
Tang Huan nodded in satisfaction. "Very good. I like your attitude. You've all seen what happened to this person. If you don't want to suffer like him, my advice is to cooperate with me."
"Now, who can tell me who ordered you to do this?"
Someone stammered and hesitated before speaking, "Yes, yes..."
