I'm disappointed
Beep beep beep.
Li Xuan's message brought Fang Huai back to his senses, and he looked carefully.
LX: I'll wait for you at the hospital entrance.
Fang Huai was about to reply when a head popped in from the office door. "Doctor Fang is off work."
Fang Huai quickly put away his phone and said, "Yeah."
Fang Huai packed up his things and walked out of the office quickly, with something on his mind. He hadn't walked down a few stairs when he bumped into someone head-on. His nose was hit and it hurt a lot. He subconsciously stepped back, but accidentally tripped on the steps behind him and fell backwards.
In a flash, he grabbed the man's arm to steady himself.
A muffled groan came from above, and Fang Huai quickly let go of his hand. The fingers that had just grabbed his arm felt sticky. He slowly lowered his head and looked at his fingertips that were stained with blood.
"Doctor Fang, please be careful." The man said in a teasing tone, putting his arm around Fang Huai's waist.
It was Kong Lingyu. Fang Huai suddenly took a few steps back, like a cat encountering a poisonous snake. The way he kept his distance made Kong Lingyu's teeth itch, and his eyes swept over Fang Huai's crimson fingertips.
He deliberately took a few steps forward like teasing a cat, pushing Fang Huai into a corner, grinning and chuckling: "Are you so afraid of me, Mai-Mai."
He winked at his assistant, who understood and took out a tissue and handed it to Kong Lingyu.
He took the tissue from the assistant, held Fang Huai's hand and carefully wiped the blood off it. His movements were cautious, as if he was holding not a hand but a fragile treasure.
There were bright red blood stains on her beautiful fingertips, and a rough tissue was rubbing against them. Kong Lingyu lowered her eyelids to hide the emotions in her eyes, and her Adam's apple rolled up and down inadvertently.
Fang Huai just felt weird. He quickly pulled his hand back and said, "Sorry."
His eyes fell on Kong Lingyu's arm, and he asked hesitantly: "Your injury, I can help you..."
"Xiao Huai." Li Xuan's voice echoed in the stairwell, followed by the sound of footsteps.
Fang Huai dodged Kong Lingyu and responded to Li Xuan: "Li Xuan, I'm here."
Kong Lingyu spread his hands and whispered in a joking tone, "You avoid me, but you treat him so specially."
"That's really enviable."
"Why are you here?" Seeing Li Xuan coming up, Fang Huai went to meet him. Li Xuan saw the blood stains on his fingertips that had not been wiped clean, and thought Fang Huai was injured. He checked him and made sure that Fang Huai was not injured before protecting him behind him.
"Can you please go down and wait for me first?" He touched Fang Huai's head and said softly, "I want to have a good chat with him."
Li Xuan handed the key to Fang Huai with a gentle look. Fang Huai looked at Li Xuan, then at Kong Lingyu above him, and finally agreed.
"Okay, I'll wait for you in the car."
"Yeah, ten minutes."
Fang Huai was sitting in the car feeling uneasy. He was looking at his phone, trying to focus on the rash cases discovered today, but his eyes were fixed on the ticking time on the screen.
What would they talk about? And... Fang Huai raised his hand and looked at his clean fingertips in the light, his handsome brows furrowed.
It was he who pressed Kong Lingyu's arm until it bled.
Knock knock, there was a knock on the car window from outside. Fang Huai turned around and saw Li Xuan's handsome face.
"What are you thinking about? Why are you so absent-minded?"
Fang Huai dropped his hand as if possessed by some unknown force, blurting out, "The patient I met today."
Li Xuan walked around and sat next to Fang Huai, saying calmly, "Really?"
"Yeah." Fang Huai didn't understand why he lied, but his subconscious told him that it was impossible to say what he really thought.
Li Xuan didn't care about Fang Huai's answer. His face didn't look good, and he looked straight ahead with his hands folded.
The air fell silent again.
"Li Xuan, today..." Fang Huai felt inexplicably nervous. Li Xuan's tense face made him uneasy. "I didn't know Kong Lingyu would show up."
"I've been keeping my distance from him."
Speak, even just one word. Don't let my heart hang in the air, even if it means getting angry.
For the first time, Fang Huai wanted Li Xuan to get angry instead of ignoring him like this.
Silence, or endless silence, all Fang Huai got was silence.
Fang Huai felt bitter in his heart. He forced a smile and pretended to be relaxed as he talked about what happened today.
"I saw a post online a while ago about a child with a rash, but the photo was so blurry I couldn't tell what kind of rash it was."
"But today the hospital received a young patient with a rash on his body, and I'm a little worried." Fang Huai gripped the seat belt with his fingertips, bit his lip, and continued, "I was thinking about this after get off work, wanting to see if there was any information I'd missed, but I couldn't find anything."
"I didn't mean to not reply. I will definitely reply in time next time."
Li Xuan said "hmm" and his expression began to relax.
"I wonder if the child in the photo has recovered."
Li Xuan said casually, "No parent in the world would allow their child to remain sick. They would definitely send them to the hospital for treatment."
"Fang Huai, there are no parents who don't love their children."
Li Xuan's unintentional words made Fang Huai stunned. His chest felt swollen. He smiled and said, "That's right. I hope everything is fine for them."
The car stopped downstairs of Fang Huai's house. Fang Huai got out and invited him, "Would you like to come up and sit for a while?"
Li Xuan didn't get out of the car. He sat in the car and refused: "No, it's getting late. You should go to bed early."
"I'll pick you up tomorrow for work." After thinking for a moment, he got out of the car and walked towards Fang Huai with open arms. "Do you want a hug?"
Fang Huai smiled, sweeping away his previous disappointment. He walked over and hugged Li Xuan, resting his chin on Li Xuan's shoulder. He said in a muffled voice, "Be careful on the road, good night."
"Yeah." Li Xuan hugged Fang Huai's waist and slowly tightened his arms.
The two stood in front of Fang Huai's house and hugged each other without any lust.
It seemed like he and Li Xuan hadn't been together so peacefully for a long time. During this period, they had been arguing, having cold wars, and avoiding each other.
Lovers don't confront each other, but the contradictions that they had previously deliberately ignored gradually emerged, digging a not-too-deep ditch between them.
The cell phone rang at an inopportune moment, breaking the rare harmony between the two.
It was a call from the hospital. Fang Huai glanced at his lover, then answered the phone. The voice on the other end was urgent: "Hello, is this Dr. Fang Huai, the attending physician in the Burns Department of Nanshi First People's Hospital? This is the Medical Department... We need to confirm an emergency call with you. Are you available now?"
Fang Huai was stunned for a moment, then immediately replied, "It's convenient."
After confirming, the other side's tone was anxious, but the pronunciation was very clear: "As of x o'clock tonight, our hospital has confirmed x cases of xx-positive patients with active wounds. The infectious disease department... is currently testing for other pathogens, but your work will be strictly limited to... infection scope. Permitted operations:..."
Armor Ai's expression immediately became serious, especially after hearing about the pathogen test, his heart sank. Could it be that this was really what he encountered today... He immediately agreed to cooperate with the other party.
Li Xuan stood by and listened. Fang Huai and the others' professional terminology made him realize the seriousness of the problem. After Fang Huai agreed without thinking, his face completely darkened.
"You can obviously refuse. You don't have to go back. The situation over there hasn't stabilized yet. If you rush back, what if..." Li Xuan didn't finish her words. She looked at the dark circles under Fang Huai's eyes and couldn't help but persuade him.
Fang Huai shook his head, his expression firm: "Li Xuan, I must go."
Li Xuan opened his mouth and finally sighed, "You're always like this."
On the way back, he remained silent, half his face hidden in the darkness, obscure and unclear. Fang Huai looked at Li Xuan's profile, feeling uneasy. He had a hunch that it must be because of that "rash".
He knew Li Xuan was worried about him, but he had to go.
While waiting for the traffic light, Fang Huai reached out and touched Li Xuan's hand, saying submissively, "Li Xuan."
Li Xuan pulled his hand away, his eyes filled with frustration. He whispered, "You could have refused, Fang Huai. The pathogen test results haven't come out yet. Do you understand the magnitude of the risk? Have you considered the consequences? Wasn't it too impulsive of you to agree so decisively?"
Li Xuan rubbed his brows and said, "Fang Huai, I'm very disappointed in you."
Fang Huai listened silently, without any rebuttal or explanation from beginning to end.
When the car arrived at the hospital, he got out silently and looked at Li Xuan deeply. "Goodbye."
