Zhang Moyan walked up the steps. When she was almost at the top of the mountain, she found that the steps under her feet had changed. She didn't know from which step, the uneven steps became flat and neat. After walking up for dozens of steps, the disorderly growing trees gradually decreased. When she turned around the mountain and climbed the last gentle slope, she saw neat green pines on both sides of the road.
These tall and majestic green pines were obviously planted by humans. Not only are the distances between each tree equal, but the left and right sides are also strictly aligned. The solemn and regular layout makes people feel as if they are in the corridor of a cemetery. The fear in the darkness seems to have undergone a qualitative change, from the fear of monsters and demons to the fear of something solemn.
Finally reaching the last step, Zhang Moyan's chest heaved as she gasped for breath, the light from her phone trembling slightly in the darkness. But she could still clearly see, directly in front of her, a majestic and towering temple perched atop a silent mountaintop. A crescent moon hung in the sky, its eaves jutting outwards.
Zhang Moyan didn't stop and ran up.
There were no plaques or couplets in the hall, and its six black doors were tightly closed. The carved and hollowed window frames around it were all inlaid with frosted glass, making it impossible to see anything inside from the outside.
"Xiao Man'er!" Zhang Moyan leaned in through the tiny crack of the door and called out, "Xiao Man'er, are you in there? Xiao Man'er!"
The voice of calling broke the ironclad silence, causing an echo in the endless darkness, repeating over and over again like a summons. It seemed that countless pairs of eyes had awakened in the darkness, staring at her from behind and in different directions.
Zhang Moyan tried to shine the flashlight on her cell phone between the cracks in the door and windows, but the mountain hall was built with great care, and the wood was tightly fitted together, so no light could get in. What's more terrifying was that as soon as she tried to peek, those eyes hidden in the darkness seemed to stare at her even more closely, as if they were blowing air on the back of her neck.
It's not advisable to stay here for long. If she stays any longer, she will have a heart attack. We must end this quickly!
She took two steps back and finally gathered her strength. She was ready to die!
"Xiao Man'er! Are you there, Xiao Man'er?" Zhang Moyan decided to shout around the mountain hall, and if there was no response, she would quickly retreat. "Xiao Man'er, if you hear anything, just call back! I'm Aunt Moyan, I'm here to take you home!"
Her shouts echoed over and over again on the top of the mountain. Even though I knew it was my own voice, I was so scared that my whole body was cold.
After calling out for two minutes, there was no response. Zhang Moyan basically predicted that the child was not there, and she felt a mixture of emotions. It was a good thing that the child was not here, but if the child was not here, then the search would be like looking for a needle in a haystack again!
The only thing I was thankful for was that I didn't tell this guess to anyone, saving everyone from wasting time and effort at this critical moment.
Just as I was thinking this, a drowsy voice, as if just waking up, suddenly came from inside the door: "Mom...Mom, is that you, Mom..."
It’s the voice of the little aunt!!
Zhang Moyan's heart was about to jump out of her throat. She was so excited that she didn't know how to describe it in words. All her fears were thrown out of her mind. She rushed to the nearest window frame, shone her cell phone at the glass, and beat it while shouting the name of the little aunt.
Hearing Zhang Moyan's voice, the little aunt burst into tears: "Mom, I'm so scared. It's so dark here. My legs hurt so much. I can't get out. Guo Tao will definitely beat me to death..."
The child complained of leg pain!
And there was no light source coming to the window!
This made Zhang Moyan's heart hang in the air.
"Baby, don't cry, don't cry, don't be afraid, Guo Tao doesn't know yet! No one will beat you! Can you tell me why your legs hurt first?"
Zhang Moyan tried her best to comfort the little aunt, and followed the child's voice to find the position closest to the child. She shone her mobile phone on the window to make sure that the little aunt could see her movements.
When the little aunt heard that Xiao Guotao didn't know she was here, she calmed down a little, but she was still sobbing: "Don't tell Guotao, wuwuwu, and don't tell Weijiang and Weiyu, okay?"
The child didn't answer the key question, and Zhang Moyan was anxious: "Okay, I won't tell them. What's wrong with your leg now?"
"I can't move my left leg..."
Zhang Moyan was startled, her first reaction being that it was a broken bone. "Then don't move! Don't move your left leg! How did you get in there?"
"I used a rock to break the window and climbed in... Then I fell. Ugh, ugh, ugh. Mom, I'm so scared. It's so dark here... Mom, I want to go home!"
Extremely frightened, the little aunt directly called Zhang Moyan "Mom".
Zhang Moyan felt heartbroken when she heard the cry of "Mom".
"Don't be afraid, baby, I will find you soon!"
Broken windows, broken windows... Zhang Moyan stared at the windows one by one. It seemed that she didn't see any broken windows along the way!
Just when she was worrying, she suddenly kicked something with her feet. Zhang Moyan held up her phone and looked down, and saw two stones stacked in front of her feet, about a foot high in total.
I quickly shone the light upwards along the stone and saw a big hole in the middle of a window!
This window has a typical zigzag pattern, with a mesh-like cross-lattice carved on the four sides and a hollow mosaic glass in the middle.
Now the glass has been broken, revealing a round hole, which is big enough for a skinny child to crawl in!
The little aunt was about 1.3 meters tall, and with the one-foot-high cushion, she could just climb to the round hole!
Zhang Moyan climbed up the window and peeked inside without saying a word: "Xiao Maner! Xiao Maner, are you in there? Xiao Maner..."
