"Is there, is there?" Zhang Moyan loosened her clenched hands.
Xiao Xingyu nodded.
Zhang Moyan's heartbeat was like thunder, and he tried to hide it, but it only made it more obvious: "Maybe it's because I haven't chatted with you in too long."
"Indeed, it's been a while since we've been alone together, and I'm nervous too." Xiao Xingyu deliberately echoed Zhang Moyan, moving his shoulders and looking around. "Huh? Where's that dead cat? Why don't we warm up first and find it to lighten the mood."
"...Okay." Zhang Moyan agreed. The cat had to be found anyway.
So the two of them immediately called out to the Rain God and started searching in the house. They searched inside and outside but could not find any sound or shadow of a cat. Finally, Xiao Xingyu found a small and suspicious creature in a pot of Monstera on the balcony.
"This worthless thing is probably planning to bury itself!" Xiao Xingyu pinched the Rain God's hair on the back of its neck and lifted it out of the pot of soil. He looked at the dirty little cat, who had now become a coal miner, with a look of disdain and scolded, "With your character, how can you deserve such a domineering name as the Rain God?"
The kitten named Rain God made pitiful meowing sounds under someone's clutches.
"Hurry up and wipe it!" Zhang Moyan took the towel from Xiao Xingyu's neck reluctantly, wrapped the dirty kitten in it and wiped it on the ground.
After wiping the four cat's paws covered in mud, Zhang Moyan planned to wipe the cat's dirty belly, but the kitten turned over and stretched out a claw towards Zhang Moyan defensively. Fortunately, Xiao Xingyu was quick to stop it.
"You're really ungrateful. I'm helping you!" Xiao Xingyu scolded the kitten while looking up at Zhang Moyan. Seeing the look of betrayal in the latter's eyes, he slapped the cat to the ground and said, "Wipe it like this, it won't be able to scratch anymore!"
"Be gentle~" Zhang Moyan really couldn't bear to see the cat being suppressed like this.
Xiao Xingyu moved his hand back a little, keeping it in a position where he could control the cat's claws without affecting Zhang Moyan's wiping of the cat's head and body.
The two people cooperated silently, their heads close to each other, so close that Zhang Moyan could feel the moisture on Xiao Xingyu's hair and smell the refreshing scent of shower gel on his body.
The moonlight at night was so gentle that Zhang Moyan felt distracted and for the first time in her life she had the urge to pounce on a man.
This impulse is of course not advisable, so she can only focus more on wiping the kitten's body.
"Mo Yan," Xiao Xingyu suddenly asked softly in the silence, "Are you very afraid of your adoptive parents?"
Zhang Moyan paused: "Hmm?"
"Are you afraid that if you find someone who's not what they want, they'll be sad and disappointed, and then they'll dislike you?"
Zhang Moyan was lost in thought as he continued to rub the cat slowly. After a moment's thought, he said, "This can't be called 'fear' of them. The more accurate term should be 'care', right?"
Xiao Xingyu scoffed, disagreeing: "How can it be 'care'? You care about me so much, why do you hurt me all the time?"
Zhang Moyan looked up when she heard that, and met the man's beautiful, slightly upturned eyes. Her mind wandered for a while, but she couldn't find a word to respond.
