Chapter 60 The True Life-Saving Grace

Three years ago.

On a September evening, the heat of late summer is still there, but the breeze has brought a gentle coolness, conveying the message of autumn.

The elevated road stretching across the city, with thousands of lights on both sides, looks like a long dragon illuminating the night, extending from south to north, which is a spectacular sight.

Under the bustling overpass, the one-way street is quiet and deserted. The sounds of traffic are isolated by the sycamore trees intertwined in the sky. The faint light of street lamps leaks through the branches, and the ground is filled with mottled light and shadows.

There were a few couples strolling along the street, tens of meters apart, each tacitly avoiding interfering with the other. If the night was like a calm river, then lovers walking hand in hand in it were like being bathed in love.

At 8:30, a slender figure carrying a computer bag turned into the alley. The person was wearing a white business suit and a small light green silk scarf around her neck. She walked while looking down at the navigation on her mobile phone.

A call notification popped up on the phone screen. The crisp ringtone was particularly abrupt on the quiet path. The couple in front of her was disturbed and turned around, looking at her strangely.

Zhang Moyan quickly answered the phone, and Jin Xueyang's voice came from the phone: "Moyan, I'm sorry that helping you write the email made you work overtime. I haven't finished here yet, and I can't take you there."

"It's okay, just go about your business," Zhang Moyan said as they walked. "The restaurant Professor Gu booked isn't far from our office."

A student who was leaving get out of class rode past her on a bicycle and rang the bell a few times.

Jin Xueyang heard this on the phone and was surprised: "Where are you? Are you still on the road? Haven't you reached the restaurant yet?"

"We've reached Guanju Road. The navigation shows there are about 700 meters left. We're almost there."

"Ah, what time is it! It's all my fault, it's all my fault. I'd be so sorry if I delayed your lifelong event! You better hurry up and run. I've met this prosecutor that Professor Gu introduced you to before. He's very reliable, so you better seize the opportunity!"

"Well, I see. I won't tell you anymore. I'm on my way."

"Okay, when you're done, call me as soon as you can and tell me the firsthand results!"

"You're so gossipy, let's leave it at that for now!"

Zhang Moyan hung up the phone and the phone automatically switched back to the navigation map.

A rhythmic sound of footsteps approached from afar. A young man, wearing a black tracksuit and headphones, was jogging at night. He was tall, stylish, and a true supermodel! Unfortunately, Zhang Moyan was so engrossed in her phone that she noticed someone approaching and automatically made way for the handsome man, passing him by. (Even after watching it, I'm probably not impressed.)

Another call came in on her phone. Seeing the caller's name, she quickly picked up the phone: "Excuse me, Professor Gu, I'm almost there. I still have about 5 minutes..."

At this time, a black car came from the opposite direction with its headlights on. Zhang Moyan subconsciously turned her head to recognize the face, and the car flashed past her like a black shadow.

"Okay, okay, I'll be there right away!" she continued on the phone.

Bang!

At the same time, "squeak——"

A sharp brake sound cut through the sky.

Zhang Moyan turned around holding her phone and saw that the car that had just passed by her suddenly stopped on the sidewalk. A figure rolled down from the hood of the car and fell into the green grass with a plop.

"Ah——" a girl screamed.

Everyone within 200 meters in front and behind was shocked by this sudden scene. Before they could react, the black car suddenly started to move backward rapidly with a whoosh, and returned to the road in an instant. Without any pause, it accelerated at full speed and escaped from the scene!

In just a few seconds, the red car taillights disappeared into the night.

Realizing what was happening, Zhang Moyan's first reaction was to rush over.

Maybe the men were busy comforting their frightened lovers, and Zhang Moyan was the first one to rush to the person who was hit.

"Sir! Sir!" Zhang Moyan knelt on the ground and patted the injured man's shoulder. The other party did not respond. She gradually raised her voice: "Sir, can you hear me?"

The injured man fell face up in the grass, blood dripping from his forehead, motionless. His situation looked very bad.

"He's not dead, is he..." Several couples also hurried over. After seeing the situation, a girl was so scared that her voice trembled and she hid behind her boyfriend.

This sentence reminded Zhang Moyan. She quickly put down her computer bag and leaned over the man's chest to listen.

"No heartbeat, no consciousness, no breathing," she said.

The onlookers took a step back at the same time.

"Who among you knows how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation?" Zhang Moyan looked up and asked everyone.

Everyone shook their heads.

Zhang Moyan looked around again. This section of road was right under the overpass. There was no village in front and no shop behind. There was not even a shop along the street, so there was no hope of seeing anyone.

"Hurry, dial 120!" She acted decisively, untying the silk scarf from her neck and spreading it over the victim's mouth. "Please go to the 24-hour convenience store over there. I saw an AED defibrillator inside when I came here just now. Get it here, quick!"

After giving orders quickly and decisively to a man with glasses next to him, Zhang Moyan had already moved to the man's side and clasped his ten fingers on his chest.

Taking a deep breath, she stretched out her arms and put all her strength into her palms, and immediately began to press the man's chest at a high frequency of nearly 120 times per minute.

The man with glasses could tell from Zhang Moyan's expression and tone that there was no time to lose, so he said "OK" and ran towards the 24-hour convenience store she mentioned.

"I'll call 120!" His girlfriend also reacted at this time and took out her cell phone in a panic.
