Chapter 13 "Are you two sleeping in separate rooms too?"
The car drove into the villa area in the north of the city, and the most conspicuous garden-style building could be seen from a distance.
It’s not because it’s more magnificent than other houses, but because there are two uniquely shaped lampposts in front of the antique gate, which provide a piece of daylight for several meters in radius, even eclipsing the stars and the moon in the sky.
The courtyard no longer had the raging night scene it had when it first came here. Every tree was dotted with small lights, and at night, the trees were full of fireworks and flowers, as brilliant as the Milky Way.
Jiang Yao really likes this isolated and dark atmosphere.
Walking along the straight corridor is like walking through a bright dream. Coming back from work late at night with a dizzy head, you will feel much better.
When they reached the door, Jiang Yao grabbed Duan Zhuxian and repeated what he had said in the car, reminding Duan Zhuxian to temporarily cease fighting in front of his brother. Duan Zhuxian said he had no objection, and the two went into the house together.
Lying on the sofa in the living room was a man in a dark green sportswear with messy hair, who didn't look like a CEO at all. It was his brother Jiang Chen.
Duan Zhuxian said hello to Jiang Chen and went upstairs, leaving the space to the two brothers.
Jiang Yao nudged Jiang Chen's calf with her toes: "You said you missed me, why do you look so half dead when you see me?"
"I'm sick with longing."
Jiang Chen hummed weakly, and stretched out his hand towards Jiang Yao as softly as a concubine.
Although Jiang Chen was still as frivolous as before, Jiang Yao could see that his brother was actually quite depressed due to their tacit understanding over the years, so he reluctantly offered his right hand and pulled him up from the sofa.
While Jiang Yao was at home, Jiang Chen ordered a lot of wine, which was delivered just at this moment.
Drinking in the house was boring, so the two of them eventually moved to the open-air leisure area beside the corridor.
"Are you used to moving out of your home?" Jiang Chen asked.
"It's okay." Jiang Yao said.
"I was worried that this part of the north city is too remote and dark at night, and you wouldn't be able to adapt." Jiang Chen looked out at the huge courtyard, his eyes illuminated by the lights, a little softer. "But now it seems okay."
When Jiang Yao was six years old, he was kidnapped by a competitor of the Jiang family and was locked up in a dark, dilapidated factory for two days and two nights.
After being rescued, he was so scared that he couldn't speak. He received psychological counseling for several months. Fortunately, he recovered well later and only suffered from a fear of the dark.
Jiang Chen sneered: "The kid from the Duan family doesn't seem very human, but he's still very good at putting on a front."
"He doesn't know." Jiang Yao said lightly.
This was a secret he had kept secret for twenty years.
They are usually well camouflaged, just like fish that never easily expose their soft and fragile bellies, always carefully covering them with light-reflecting scales, trying to blend in with the water color as much as possible.
Even Chen Yiqi, who grew up with him, didn't know about it, and he would never tell Duan Zhuxian. He was not stupid enough to hand his life over to his enemy.
but.
Jiang Yao looked around—
Ivory-colored trees and flowers, pearly white stone bridges and flowing water, and snow-covered bluestone paths seem like a ceremony of light blooming out of thin air.
To a normal person, the house does seem a little too bright.
Neither of them continued to dwell on this matter and quickly changed the subject.
Jiang Chen asked Jiang Yao: "Have you told your parents that I came to your place?"
Jiang Yao didn't hide it and nodded.
Jiang Chen popped the cork out of the wine and said irritably, "Don't try to teach me the same way they did, or I'll beat you up."
This sounded familiar, as if he had heard it from his brother more than ten years ago. Jiang Yao was a little speechless and said, "Tsk!" "Jiang Chen, are you experiencing a rebellious phase that's delayed?"
Jiang Chen took a sip of wine and said quietly, "After being trapped in the cage of marriage for too long, you are also rebellious."
These words were full of emotion, and to those who were about to enter into marriage, they more or less triggered some waves.
But thinking that his mission was to persuade Jiang Chen, Jiang Yao rubbed his nose and said something against his will: "How can marriage be as terrible as you say?"
"You're a young, inexperienced person, but you're not afraid of a tiger. I'm going to have to teach you a lesson. Don't let yourself be caught off guard and end up getting eaten alive."
Jiang Chen finished the wine in his glass in one gulp and began to list the major sins of marriage as a person who had experienced it.
But in fact, they are all trivial matters, so small that even the conflict of clothing tastes is brought to the table and expanded into a short essay.
He talked about this and that for over an hour, until Jiang Yao's ears were callused. He finally concluded, "It's not a big deal whether we love each other or not. It's mainly because we have different life philosophies. Besides, she's used to being a leader, and she has a strong desire to control both internally and externally. Look at me, do I look like I need to be managed?"
Jiang Chen patted his chest confidently as he spoke.
Jiang Yao glanced at Jiang Chen's wrinkled collar, yawned while nestling in the rattan chair, and commented pointedly: "Isn't it good to have someone to help take care of your life? You are so picky, no wonder your sister-in-law is annoyed with you."
Jiang Chen snorted disapprovingly: "I knew you, a little brat, wouldn't understand. But you'll understand in the future. Don't blame me for not reminding you. The one in your family is even more important and more difficult to deal with than your sister-in-law."
Thank you, I have known this for years, no need to remind you.
Jiang Yao tilted his head back and drank half a can of beer. His slender finger bones tightened one by one, and he smiled as he crushed the can.
The empty wine bottles on the stone table in front of him kept piling up, red, yellow and white. The main force was Jiang Chen, and Jiang Yao couldn't stop him.
His brother didn't actually drink much before, and he didn't talk a lot of nonsense. Now he looks so depressed, as if he has really been tortured by his failed marriage.
After clearing all the wine on the table, Jiang Chen wanted to buy some more, but Jiang Yao forced him to stop.
Jiang Yao knew that Jiang Chen was unhappy. She had been letting him drink and had also drunk quite a bit with him. Now it took a lot of effort to coax him into the guest room to rest.
After closing the door of the guest room, Jiang Yao rubbed his sore temples and walked towards his bedroom door. Just as he was about to open the door, he suddenly heard a noise behind him.
When he turned around, his brother appeared again.
Standing in the corridor like a wandering ghost, staring at him with dull eyes, the scene was inexplicably terrifying.
The next second, Jiang Chen pointed at the tightly closed door next to Jiang Yao and asked a more shocking question in a daze: "Isn't this the room your husband entered?"
Before Jiang Yao could react, his drunken eyes suddenly lit up: "So you two also sleep in separate rooms?"
His expression was extremely excited, as if he had found an ally in his fear of marriage.
Jiang Yao's hand on the door handle froze instantly.
In a flash, the brain, half occupied by alcohol, popped out the command to "treat each other with respect."
After a moment of hesitation, Jiang Yao calmly opened the door. "Duan Zhuxian was so clumsy that he spilled water on the bed. I'll go to the guest room and get a new quilt."
After saying that, he pushed the door open and walked in, leaving behind a calm back that showed his acting skills at their peak.
After holding my breath and waiting for a while, Jiang Chen was still standing outside.
Jiang Yao had no choice but to give in completely. He stuffed his pajamas into the quilt and hid it. He hugged Tuanba Tuanba in his arms and, under the watchful eyes of his brother, walked into Duan Zhuxian's bedroom next door.
The moment the door closed, Jiang Yao leaned against it and let out a long breath.
Not far away, a man who had just walked out of the bathroom stopped and looked at the person who suddenly broke into his private space with a look of surprise.
Jiang Yao raised his chin towards him and said, "Boss Duan, please let me sleep on the floor tonight."
【Author’s words】
Jiang Chen: That’s all I can do to help you, brother.
