Chapter 67 "Can I Love You More?"
He stood up, took his clothes, shook off the annoying people, walked through the long corridor into the falling snow, and left four hurried footprints in the thin snow.
The moment he slowed down his pace, Jiang Yao took Duan Zhuxian's hand and suddenly put his hands on his hips and laughed.
His cheeks were as red as peach blossoms, he was laughing so hard that he was bent over, and he was in high spirits. He was completely different from the aggressive man at the dinner table just now.
Duan Zhuxian quietly watched Jiang Yao inch by inch, until that infectious smile spread along his line of sight to the corner of his mouth. He asked, "Why are you so happy all of a sudden?"
Jiang Yao stopped laughing and blinked. "I suddenly remembered that year in high school when I urged you to skip classes. Do you remember?"
Duan Zhuxian said without hesitation: "I remember."
At the time, they each led a team of student volunteers and met a disabled elderly man who lived alone and ran a small shop. After the activity, Jiang Yao left his phone number and told the elderly man to contact him if he encountered any difficulties in the future.
One day in late winter, he received a call for help from an old man, saying that the Meteorological Bureau had issued an emergency warning that freezing rain would come at night and the old man’s shed could not hold up, so the goods needed to be transferred to a warehouse. However, there were too many things and he had difficulty walking, so he couldn’t move them all by himself.
Although it was winter vacation at that time, the school was holding make-up classes. Jiang Yao rushed out of the classroom without thinking. When he reached the school gate, he sent a message to Duan Zhuxian, saying that he couldn't handle it alone. The other party just replied with a "hmm".
He waited without hope, and three minutes later, the tall and slender figure actually appeared at the school gate.
Although he later learned that Duan Zhuxian had fully demonstrated his meticulous work style and had already asked for leave from the teacher on the way here, and had also asked for one for him, thus saving him the "pain of self-criticism", the sense of accomplishment of "taking Duan Zhuxian to skip class" at that time was simply wonderful.
"Oh, I forgot you have a good memory. You remember all my little things." Jiang Yao smiled slyly and beckoned to Duan Zhuxian, "Come here, I'll tell you a secret."
Duan Zhuxian lowered his head slightly, and just as he put his ear to Jiang Yao's warm lips, the deliberately suppressed but unconcealed breath of pride could not wait to fill his ear: "Actually, I did it on purpose. It's just a small amount, I can move it by myself."
Duan Zhuxian asked: "Then why did you ask me to come along?"
Apart from matters related to competition, Jiang Yao would rarely take the initiative to invite him.
"Of course I want to see you breaking school rules and regulations."
Jiang Yao took a step back with a smile, raised his chin, and looked provocative with a righteous look on his face.
"You're flying too high, and you're so arrogant. I'm too lazy to look up, so I want to pull you down from the clouds, bring you to me, and connect you to the ground."
Duan Zhuxian paused, then chuckled softly, "Thank you."
Jiang Yao was puzzled: "Why are you thanking me?"
Duan Zhuxian: "Nothing."
The relationship between them was never that Jiang Yao deliberately pulled him down, but when he was in the most confused stage, Jiang Yao generously opened his arms and stabilized his uneasy life.
Jiang Yao snorted twice, too lazy to pay attention to the riddler who was halfway through his words. He turned around and looked at the main hall that he had thrown a hundred meters away in one breath. The luxurious and bright lights melted into the night fog, and it was eerie and uncomfortable.
Looking back, I saw that the snow was so light in color that it was almost impossible to see people's faces clearly.
But he could clearly feel Duan Zhuxian's gaze lingering on him, so gentle that it seemed as if it would melt along with the snowflakes in his palm.
The cold wind lingered around his mouth and nose. After staring at each other for a while, Jiang Yao exhaled a large cloud of white mist. His originally excited tone suddenly softened a lot: "Tsk, I did drink a little too much today."
The protective instinct etched in his bones gradually calmed down. Jiang Yao rubbed his slightly swollen forehead and said seriously, "I hope I didn't cause you any trouble at the dinner table just now?"
Although those Duan guys were extremely hateful and didn't deserve a good New Year, this was Duan Zhuxian's family affair after all, and he wasn't sure if he had the qualifications to interfere.
Duan Zhuxian suddenly revealed an unfathomable expression: "Then I will tell you a secret too."
Jiang Yao's eyes lit up: "What?"
When Jiang Yao leaned forward curiously, Duan Zhuxian lowered his voice and said, "Ever since the day I went to pick you up at the hot spring, I've been waiting for you to protect me, and tonight I finally got it."
Jiang Yao:?
"Fuck, didn't you say you didn't eavesdrop on me talking to anyone?"
Jiang Yao's ears suddenly turned red.
Duan Zhuxian said calmly, "I just walked to the door and before I could cover my ears, your voice floated out. You said in a firm tone that you would protect me and warned others not to bully me, so it doesn't count as eavesdropping."
When Jiang Yao heard this, the tips of his ears turned even redder, red enough to look like blood.
The consequence of touching Jiang Yao's hair against his will was that Duan Zhuxian didn't even get a glance from Jiang Yao until he got in the car.
With his back to Duan Zhuxian and looking out the car window, Jiang Yao felt a hand touching his shoulder unscrupulously and shaking it as if asking for peace.
He elbowed back to push the hand away, then continued to frown and stare out the window. But a moment later, the hand came up again, and he elbowed again...
After repeating this several times, the hand that was harassing him finally stopped.
On New Year's Eve, when families reunite, there are almost no pedestrians on the streets and most shops are closed. The usually colorful street scenes are now bleak and lonely, which is really boring.
Jiang Yao was bored and sulking when the phone on his lap suddenly lit up and he received a message.
Duan Zhuxian: "Yaoyao, pay attention to me."
Jiang Yao stared at the shameless six words, and suddenly felt a strange sensation in his chest, as if something was slowly dissolving and was completely out of control.
After a few seconds, his heart softened, but his expression was still sour.
Jiang Yao turned his head and gritted his teeth at the man who had succeeded, "Duan Zhuxian, you're kicking cotton if you mess with me!"
*
After returning to their own home from the depressing Duan family old house, Jiang Yao felt relieved. As he leisurely passed by the sofa, Duan Zhuxian pulled him to sit on his lap.
He was startled, but did not refuse the human cushion.
Duan Zhuxian's cell phone, which was placed on the coffee table, kept lighting up. Jiang Yao glanced at it and saw that most of them were messages from Duan's family.
Those scandalous secrets had been buried for more than 20 years, and were exposed by him without any warning. I guess everyone in the Duan family was in danger, fearing that Duan Zhuxian would suddenly wake up and take measures against them.
Jiang Yao was upset after seeing this, so he held the phone upside down and asked Duan Zhuxian, "Have they bullied you like that since you were very young?"
Duan Zhuxian said: "It's even better than before."
The seven words were spoken casually, without causing any ripples, but Jiang Yao's heart felt like it was being gripped tightly.
He put his arms around Duan Zhuxian's neck, pulled him closer, and lowered his voice: "How did you endure until now..."
Duan Zhuxian looked up at Jiang Yao: "Do you remember what you said to me back then? You said that controlled anger is a spark and a driving force, but if it erupts at an inappropriate time, it will become a worthless emotional outburst."
Jiang Yao frowned for a long moment, lost in memory: "How can I still say such a philosophical thing?"
"At that time, Duan Song used unconventional means to transfer the house my mother left me to Duan Feiyi and He Lu's name, on the day you asked me to go swimming." Duan Zhuxian smiled, lowering his eyes slightly as if to mock himself, "It's normal that you don't remember these little things."
"No, I remember." Jiang Yao quickly defended himself, "I just can't remember exactly what I said..."
"In fact, the moment I learned that my house had been stolen, I almost lost my mind. All kinds of terrible thoughts popped up in that instant. If you hadn't sent me a message to remind me that you were still waiting for me, and later told me that forbearance was the right thing to do when I was doubting myself, maybe I wouldn't be who I am today."
Jiang Yao said sullenly, "Don't put such a high hat on me. My head is too small to support it."
Duan Zhuxian chuckled softly and raised his hand to rub someone's drooping head: "Don't be sad, it's all over."
Jiang Yao couldn't stand Duan Zhuxian's nonchalant look. His heart ached, but he was not good at coaxing people. After thinking for a long time, he could only mutter: "Duan Zhuxian, even if you lose Hua Yan, leave the Duan family, and all your businesses go bankrupt, I can still support you."
Duan Zhuxian looked at Jiang Yao, seeming to think carefully about his words.
Jiang Yao immediately added: "Don't think too much, I don't mean to look down on you."
Duan Zhuxian said seriously: "No, I was just thinking that eating your soft rice seems to be quite pleasant."
Jiang Yao: "..."
"Of course I have enough free time here!" Jiang Yao freed up one hand for the hug, patted his pocket proudly, and then said seriously, "But I still hope you can get what you want."
He knew that Duan Zhuxian's ultimate goal was the entire Huayan, and for this, Duan Zhuxian had endured too much and lost too much.
But he didn't know that Duan Zhuxian's biggest wish, which he had never dared to even think about, had been fulfilled in excess so far.
Sitting on Duan Zhuxian's lap, Jiang Yao hugged Duan Zhuxian's neck and continued, "I'm a very lucky person. I was kidnapped by bad guys for two days and two nights without eating, drinking or sleeping, but I'm fine. I'm also very lucky. The fortune teller told me so, so can you please be more kind to me?"
"Duan Zhuxian, in the new year, you will definitely be very good, very, very good..."
Jiang Yao said "very good" several times in a row, and his tongue was a little tied. Duan Zhuxian knew that he was drunk and was mumbling.
The pair of rosy and plump lips opened and closed in front of my eyes, making me feel itchy.
Duan Zhuxian slowly moved closer and stopped at a distance that was neither too close nor too far. He wanted to kiss her, but also wanted to hear Jiang Yao say more.
"Yes." Duan Zhuxian said firmly.
Being suddenly interrupted, Jiang Yao's already confused mind froze for a moment, and he asked uncertainly, "Is it really possible?"
Duan Zhuxian hummed, "With you here, every day is the best for me."
Jiang Yao was stunned.
Why is Duan Zhuxian always so good at talking?
How come he can't utter a single word?
He usually talks a lot...
Jiang Yao held it in for a long time, not knowing how to respond, so he aimed at Duan Zhuxian's lips, gave him a sudden kiss, then immediately stood up and ran out the door.
Duan Zhuxian sat alone on the sofa for a while, thinking about Jiang Yao's every move just now. After a while, he got up and walked out of the house.
In the courtyard, Jiang Yao was rolling a snowball. Because he drank too much, his steps were a little unsteady, but he was very motivated.
He placed the small snowball on the big one and looked around for something suitable to make facial features.
After revealing his human form, Jiang Yao looked back at Duan Zhuxian who was leaning against the door, then looked at the little snowman he had built, frowned and thought for a while, then strode back to the house and upstairs.
A few minutes later, he came out with two things.
One was Duan Zhuxian's silver-rimmed glasses, and the other was the blue twill tie that Duan Zhuxian often wore.
After hanging the glasses and tie on the little snowman, Jiang Yao finally showed a satisfied smile on his face.
He raised his eyes, pointed at Duan Zhuxian and asked loudly: "Look, your twin brother, do they look alike?"
Duan Zhuxian glanced at the little snowman with his lips pressed into a straight line and a slightly aloof look, crossed his arms, and refused to acknowledge his relative: "It doesn't look like it."
It was almost midnight and the first firework had already exploded in the sky.
Many years later, Duan Zhuxian still remembered this scene which was less than one ten-millionth of his life's length.
Under the brilliant fireworks, Jiang Yao held a handful of snow and threw it into his collar with a wicked smile.
The boy who always had red eyes when he saw the snowy day, and who he had hidden deep in his heart, finally reconciled with the snowy day when he saw the boy.
Duan Zhuxian took a step forward and walked down three steps at a time.
Jiang Yao saw Duan Zhuxian coming towards him with great momentum, and thought that Duan Zhuxian was going to retaliate for his sneak attack. He was screaming and trying to avoid him, but was grabbed by the wrist and held in his arms.
"Yaoyao, can I love you a little more now?"
Duan Zhuxian asked Jiang Yao in his ear, his words sounding a little anxious as he breathed.
Jiang Yao was stunned for a moment: "What kind of a question is that?"
"Don't like me too much. I don't know how to repay you. I might even be in a panic and helpless." Duan Zhuxian paused and chuckled, "Who said these words?"
Jiang Yao's breathing stopped and his face suddenly felt hot.
Is this person a repeater?
Why can this person recite every word he said?
Jiang Yao blushed and curled his lips: "It's up to you."
He wanted to see how Duan Zhuxian could love him even more since he already loved him so much.
The temperature outside was too low to stay. When they separated, Jiang Yao's nose tip was already red from the cold.
Duan Zhuxian lowered his gaze and looked at Jiang Yao's eyes, which were brightly lit by the fireworks. "Let's go on our honeymoon tomorrow."
He still has a lot of words accumulated over time and space, and he wants to find an opportunity to tell them to Jiang Yao.
