Chapter 35 Nuclear Threat New Family
The moving company's trucks were not allowed to carry people, let alone dogs, and arrived downstairs at Jiang Ranxu's house before Meng Weishen.
Jiang Ranxu roughly counted Meng Weishen's luggage and moved them one by one into the bedroom he had prepared for him.
Perhaps because the other party follows a working schedule of 10 am to 10 pm and spends less time at home, the moving luggage is also light, and a few leather bags and cardboard boxes are all their belongings.
Three of the cartons belonged to Qin Shi Huang. Before he even opened them, he could smell the odor of burnt glutinous rice. Ugh, that must be the legendary puppy smell.
Jiang Ranxu was very troubled by Meng Weishen's pre-marital property.
If he stayed with the dog day and night, his mental problems would sooner or later be exposed to Meng Weishen. Temporary isolation was the safest transition method he could think of.
As for what to do next, he had no time to think about it. He first had to find a way to persuade Meng Weishen to accept raising a dog in the yard on the first floor.
As usual, he put on two layers of gloves, sealed his mask, and before Meng Weishen's taxi arrived at the community, he rushed to move several cartons of Qin Shihuang to the rented house on the first floor.
After dinner, Meng Weishen arrived at the community with his puppy, and Jiang Ranxu went to the gate to greet him.
"Who is the cutest dog in the world? Who is it? Is it you, Qin Shi Huang?"
Meng Weishen picked up the puppy, and Qin Shihuang responded with a loud wagging of his tongue and gave Meng Weishen a full facial hydrating SPA for free.
The dog had just crawled across the entire community lawn... Jiang Ranxu took a few steps to the side, putting an increasingly greater distance between himself and the dog.
And there was no way Qin Shi Huang could be the cutest dog in the world. In their neighborhood alone, there were several competitors, like the light golden Labrador downstairs who helped pick up packages and looked after the shop.
But Meng Weishen had already secretly chosen this three-colored donkey that ate for free. He carried the dog all the way to the bottom of the corridor before he was willing to let go:
"Come on, cutest dog! Today we're going to see your new home. Are you happy?"
The doghouse was located on the first floor of the rented apartment, separate from his seventh-floor apartment. While Jiang Ranxu was still pondering how to explain, Qin Shi Huang ran into the elevator, enjoying the surprised compliments from his new neighbors, clearly delighted.
Jiang Ranxu gritted his teeth and got on the elevator.
He chose a relatively secluded corner, using his neighbors as a natural shield. However, as soon as the elevator reached the second floor, he felt a damp sway in his trouser legs.
Alarm bells rang in his heart, and he dodged to the side. Sure enough, he found that Qin Shihuang had passed through the crowd and was sniffing his trouser leg.
Meng Weishen smiled and said, "Qin Shi Huang seems to like you very much. He is slowly getting familiar with your scent."
"...Is that so? It's such a friendly little dog. I like it too."
"You two will get along very well in the future. I have a feeling."
"Of course. I don't know why, but small animals seem to like me."
Jiang Ranxu thought his acting skills had reached their peak at that moment, but out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of himself in the elevator mirror. His cheeks were as stiff as if he had just had his wisdom teeth pulled. He lowered his head, pressed his legs against the mirror, and dodged the puppy's wet nose.
The elevator stopped on the seventh floor.
Meng Weishen was polite, stopping in the hallway outside the door to brush off the dog fur on his coat. Qin Shihuang was very impolite. As soon as Jiang Ranxu unlocked the door, the dog turned into a flash of lightning and rushed straight into the living room.
The puppy was particularly curious about the smell of unfamiliar spaces, but unfortunately this living room was too empty. It wandered around and could only sniff the sofa legs. Its dark nose twitched and it sneezed several times.
——It must be the smell of disinfectant. Luckily, Jiang Ranxu had prepared in advance and switched to pet-friendly disinfectant.
The door was not open. But the puppy's enthusiasm was not discouraged. It turned around and ran to the bedroom where Meng Weishen had opened the door.
Jiang Ranxu was quick-witted and quick-handed. He picked up the puppy by the waist and walked quickly towards the makeshift dog fence he had built, regardless of how it flapped its limbs in mid-air.
He felt something wet on the back of his hand, his mind went blank, his arms stiffened, and the puppy fell from his arms.
Qin Shi Huang fell flat on his back, but fortunately the crawling mat acted as a cushion and the dog's body remained intact.
It glared at Jiang Ranxu in disbelief, whimpering in dissatisfaction. It reared up its front paws, only to discover that its body and legs were still shorter than the fence, making its chances of escaping slim. To vent its anger, it gnawed furiously at the crawling mat, leaving pairs of teeth marks and holes in the pristine foam.
Meng Weishen also rushed over, his face full of guilt: "Sorry, sorry, Qin Shi Huang was too nervous when he arrived in a new environment. Did it catch you?"
Jiang Ranxu resisted the urge to rush into the bathroom to wash his hands. He took out several alcohol wipes and applied them to the back of his hand. His fingertips felt his overly restless pulse.
He said calmly: "No, it's very well behaved, it just sniffed my scent."
Meng Weishen squatted down and patted Qin Shi Huang's head to calm his restless mood. Meng Weishen gave him an arm as a teething toy and took a look at the dog activity center:
The fence encloses a roughly seven-square-meter area, located on the sunny side of the living room, where the dog can get plenty of sunlight. The floor is covered with foam play mats, upon which are placed a dog cage, a plush kennel, an automatic feeder, a pee pad, and sniffing toys. Everything is brand new, not some hand-me-down from a moving company.
The decorations in the dog activity center may be more than those in the entire living room, which adds a bit of life to this overly tidy living room.
Meng Weishen said stiffly, "Thank you, but that's too expensive. Actually, the old ones can still be used. There's no need to replace everything."
"It's okay, it doesn't cost that much when you add it all up." He replaced all the luggage because he couldn't stand those bags that smelled like puppy. Jiang Ranxu inexplicably gained the aura of being a good guy, and he rarely felt guilty. "Let's clean up your bedroom first. Do you need my help?"
Meng Weishen seemed to have other concerns and repeatedly refused his help.
The two went to the bedroom vacated for Meng Weishen. Jiang Ranxu closed the door in time to block out the barking of the dog in the living room, and the world became quiet again.
Jiang Ranxu lived alone all year round, and his second bedroom was already empty, with only a bed, a desk, a wardrobe, and Meng Weishen's unpacked luggage. It seemed as if it had been waiting for the arrival of a new owner.
Meng Weishen unpacked a few cardboard boxes, set the sheets and quilt covers by the bed, and began filling the closet with clothes for the four seasons. Like worker ants, he constructed a chaotic city in the closet, a misshapen skyscraper filled with T-shirts and jackets.
Jiang Ranxu felt itchy inside and could no longer stand by and watch. He took out a stack of heavy autumn and winter coats from the cardboard box and hung them on the hangers one by one in order from short to long.
The out-of-season clothes must have been washed recently; they smelled of clean soap. "Hang up all your autumn and winter coats. And those expensive clothes of yours, better hang them up too. Don't pile them up in a mess."
Meng Weishen was stunned, struggling to pull out a few sweaters and shirts that didn't look expensive. Without paying attention, the already precarious high-rise building collapsed.
Jiang Ranxu helped the other person fold the clothes again, stacking them in the same order from thick to thin, and dividing them into different areas for each season.
Meng Weishen's clothing collection was limited, and the styles were quite simple. Jiang Ranxu even found several identical basic sweatshirts, only to find he'd forgotten he'd bought the same style before. The overall storage was relatively easy, and within an hour, the two had emptied the boxes and filled the closet.
"Where do I put this?"
Meng Weishen brought out a storage box and held it out to Jiang Ranxu. Jiang Ranxu peered inside and saw a box of thick, gray-blue-black underwear—folded up like biscuits.
Jiang Ranxu's earlobes felt hot. He took the box of underwear, stuffed it into the wardrobe drawer, and quickly closed it.
He didn't dislike tidying up his clothes; the sense of order always made him feel relaxed. The only problem was that he'd occasionally find a few streaks of dog hair on the woolen fabrics. Beagles are bad dogs, and they'd get black hair on white clothes and white hair on black clothes.
But Meng Weishen's concerns seemed to be getting bigger and bigger, and he asked him: "Thank you. How should I pay your rent?"
Jiang Ranxu took it for granted: "You have already paid."
"The rent should be calculated separately."
"The bedroom is empty anyway. I don't usually use it."
"But it would be very troublesome for you to have another person living in the house with a dog..."
Meng Weishen swallowed the rest of his words and held his breath. The room suddenly fell silent. Before Jiang Ranxu could react, Meng Weishen had already rushed out of the bedroom and flew towards the doghouse in the living room.
This was the sharp sense unique to ninjas: Beagle was quiet, so he must be up to something. Qin Shi Huang had already chewed a large hole in the crawling mat, with a few pieces of debris scattered on it. The dog also had a piece in its mouth, chewing it with a crunching sound.
Meng Weishen slapped it on the forehead, pinched its jaw, and pried out a piece of chewed foam from its mouth.
——
Jiang Ranxu took Meng Weishen to the first floor, handed him a key, and opened the door of the rented house.
"Dogs need a lot of exercise, so a house with a yard is more suitable for raising a dog, as it can satisfy the puppy's lively nature."
Meng Weishen asked again: "What about the rent?"
"Don't worry, you don't have to worry about the rent." To dispel Meng Weishen's doubts, Jiang Ranxu had made up an excuse in advance, "The house belongs to my friend. She has settled in Sweden. There are five or six houses in China that are empty. It would be a waste if we don't live in it."
According to his research, this type of unfinished house that has been installed with plumbing and electricity but not decorated has a more beautiful name: bare house.
He installed lights, doors, and carpets. As long as he finished furnishing the entertainment space and renovating the courtyard, Qin Shi Huang could let loose.
Meng Weishen looked the room over and was quite satisfied. He asked him, "This space is big enough, we need to make use of it. Let's buy some things to fill it up. Do you have time to go shopping?"
"certainly."
"And the bedroom."
Meng Weishen pushed open a wooden door, but unfortunately it was pitch black inside and he couldn't see anything clearly.
This is a good house that I got at a low price. From the rent to the layout, everything is perfect. Jiang Ranxu was quite pleased with himself: "Of course, a proper one-bedroom apartment."
Meng Weishen nodded repeatedly. Then, out of nowhere, an idea struck him: "Let's arrange the bedrooms. Qin Shi Huang and I can both live on the first floor. That way, we won't disturb you. Wouldn't that be the best approach?"
