Chapter 149 Sangcang Ice Plain

"Come on! Let's do it!"

Cheers!

"You've had a good harvest these past few days!"

"Of course! Tomorrow's the last day, everyone give it your all!"

...

On the treetop, Xiao He held Wang Xuefeng's sniper rifle, observing the situation inside a certain room through the scope.

The furniture inside was in a mess, as if no one had tidied it up. Only a small open space in the middle had been cleared out, with a simple round table placed there, without even a tablecloth.

On the table sits a whole roasted lamb, steaming hot in this cold winter.

Seven or eight burly men sat around the table, while the rest of the people stood to eat and drink because there were no seats, but they were quite cheerful and had no complaints.

It's worth mentioning that everyone was wearing the same light armor, and each person also had a metal badge of Dragon City pinned to their chest.

"Who are they? What are they doing there?" Wang Xuefeng asked casually.

"Judging from their attire, they seem to have joined some temporary military unit in the city..." Xiao He replied, "They're just eating meat and drinking wine."

"A temporary regiment?" Wang Xuefeng thought for a moment and guessed, "A mercenary group?"

“I’m not sure either,” Xiao He replied.

Although the Hengduan Mountains are remote, they are still located around Flying Dragon City.

With two rounds of clearing operations, one in the morning and one in the evening, there are basically no particularly threatening monsters left.

The group of ten made a wise choice to stay here for the night.

"Judging from their travel-worn appearance, they probably didn't just set off from the city; they seem more like they've returned from the deep mountains. However, if they don't plan to enter the city tonight, it will likely be sealed off before dawn." Xiao He knew these people had nothing to do with him, so he just said it casually.

While he continued to observe, Wang Xuefeng took out a pen and paper, wrote a small note, and wrapped it around a crossbow bolt.

“If Flying Dragon City takes the lead in breaking away from the alliance, the pressure on all sides will be immense. After all, they are people from Flying Dragon City, and recalling them would add to our strength. As for their true future, let them decide for themselves.” Wang Xuefeng finished speaking and pulled the trigger.

"Whoosh—"

The people drinking inside were completely unaware until the first person discovered the crossbow bolt stuck in the mutton.

The arrow's silent appearance instantly extinguished the lively atmosphere.

If this lurking assassin wanted to harm any of them, none of them would escape.

Upon realizing this, everyone felt a chill run down their spines.

"Wait! There's a message on the arrow."

The nearest soldier took the note down, glanced at it, and frowned.

"Who goes there?" the other person immediately asked.

"He didn't say anything, only that we should return to the city immediately."

"Return to the city immediately?" The group looked at each other in bewilderment.

Is this a warning or a threat?

It's supposed to be a reminder, but it's done in such a frightening way. It's supposed to be a threat, but it doesn't say what will happen if you don't agree.

The group was in a bit of a predicament, and they lost their appetite for even the fine wine and fatty meat.

"But we still have one day left on our mission..."

"Forget it, I'll go back. I don't want the commission." The soldier closest to the arrow said as he stood up, clearly still wary of the "assassin" in the shadows.

Seeing his expression, the crowd began to waver slightly.

However, there was also a lot of suspicion between them.

For example, was this arrow a prank, deliberately designed to discourage someone so that the prankster could get a bigger cut of the commission?

Once this thought crossed their minds, even fewer people were willing to leave.

Xiao He crouched in front of Wang Xuefeng, observing him from a distance through a sniper scope.

I was quite surprised to find that only three people left in the end.

"Judging from their appearance, they are probably a group of mercenaries formed temporarily."

"If they still don't leave after being reminded like this, then there's nothing I can do." Wang Xuefeng put away his heavy crossbow.

After all, the two of them could no longer show their faces in public, lest they be discovered by the Resurrection Cult. This reminder was already more than enough.

Xiao He turned his head and silently examined the map, recalling the attire and characteristics of the group of people, before finally focusing his gaze on a blank area on the map.

The Sangcang Plateau, located north of the end of the Hengduan Mountains, is also known as the "Sangcang Icefield" in winter.

"I suspect they came from the ice field," Xiao He guessed, and also sent Wang Xuefeng the photos he had taken through the sniper scope, one by one.

The latter then began to examine the details of each photograph closely.

One of the parchments on the table caught his attention.

"What's that?" Xiao He looked at the screenshot he sent back, which had a circle drawn on it.

The extracted content yielded a somewhat unclear map, which almost perfectly matched the outline of the Sangcang Ice Plain.

You can still vaguely see the markings and their corresponding positions, but there may be some discrepancies.

“The markings are blood red,” Wang Xuefeng guessed. “According to Nuojin’s customs, blood red markings are a danger signal, meaning that these places are dangerous.”

"Danger?" Xiao He asked, puzzled. "Isn't there a dedicated purging team? When did we need to hire skirmishers?"

"It's hard to say. It's also possible that he was hired by some businessman to mine."

Xiao He nodded slightly, because there were indeed some mining tools on the ground.

But these tools aren't exactly normal...

"Are you tired today?" Wang Xuefeng asked.

"I'm not tired, I slept too much at noon."

"Shall we head to the ice plains tonight?"

“Okay.” Xiao He nodded.

The two added the marker to the system map and set up a special notification sound.

If there are monsters, you can assess the difference in strength between the two sides and see if you can gain some experience.
