Chapter 172 Breakthrough

A breeze gradually picked up, and the night sky began to flicker between light and darkness.

What should have been a summer night filled with the chirping of insects turned into a deathly silence under the gloom.

Is it that girl?

"That should be right, she stayed next to the gunman the whole time on the spaceship."

"Are you sure? This can't go wrong! If Lady Anna blames us, we'll all be dead!"

"It's definitely her! There's no one else here who fits the bill."

"Alright, then seize the opportunity and act quickly!"

...

Valerie looked up at the sky. They had just finished setting up their formation and were waiting for the commander's signal.

The formation leader made a retreat gesture, and everyone began to retreat silently.

Valerie followed closely behind the group members, but after taking only a few steps back, her footing suddenly gave way.

As the ground sank, all five members of the group sank into the mud and sand.

"Whoosh—"

At the critical moment, a vine around the waist of the five people suddenly grew longer, stopping their sinking bodies.

In the distance, a wood-elemental mage waved his staff. He seemed to have been prepared for all of this and reacted instantly to the sudden turn of events.

Valerie was pulled out of the mud pit by the vines, her heart still pounding.

She didn't dare to move at all; she had almost cried out just now.

The commander had instructed them before the operation that they should not talk and should make as little noise as possible.

Valerie didn't want to hold everyone back, and she didn't want anyone else to be in danger.

However, what we fear most often happens.

The vines around her waist were being corroded by a gas at a speed that caught her off guard.

So, just as she was freed from the mud and sand, she was dragged down by a powerful suction force.

Valerie remained completely silent throughout.

The four closest teammates were pulled back to safety by the vines.

They all knew that Valerie hadn't called for help to protect them, and now that they saw her being swallowed by the mud, they were more anxious than anyone else.

"Whoosh..."

Signal transmission.

The closed sealing formation gradually emitted light.

Meanwhile, the soldiers who had been waiting in front of the six cave entrances filed in.

"BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!"

The tranquility was instantly shattered, as roars echoed across the wilderness...

-

"Waaah! Who are you?!"

Valerie spat out the stone from her mouth and stared at the group of people in shock.

The black cloak seems to have become one of the characteristics of the Resurrection Cult.

Valerie didn't understand the point of their elaborate scheme to capture her. The instant she was dragged down, she realized that from the very beginning, her target had been her.

So she stopped screaming, because she knew their goal wasn't to kill.

Since that's the case, it's better to make a bigger scene and increase your chances of being saved.

One of them stepped forward, pinched Valerie's chin, and looked her over from left to right, his tone always carrying a hint of doubt.

"This doesn't look like it at all. Who among you said this is the target?"

"Uh, this..."

"We also made our judgment based on intelligence... based on intelligence..."

"While there's no evidence to prove she is, there's also no evidence to prove she isn't!"

"Everyone, Miss Anna is on her way. We can just let her identify it when she arrives, and then we'll know, won't we?"

"That's all we can do..."

"What about the people up there?"

"Let those demonic ants block the entrance, then bring in another batch of demonic ants to clear a path underground, and we'll lead our people to evacuate through the breach."

"good!"

The group made no attempt to hide Valerie's presence, treating her as if she were a lamb to the slaughter.

"I've been kidnapped?" Valerie was being held aloft by a demonic ant, her face filled with disbelief.

These demonic ants were incredibly fast, and in no time they had dug to the edge of the sealing array.

Valerie tried to calm herself down, mentally calculating the distance.

If all goes as expected, they will launch an attack on the formation as the next cloud drifts by. In doing so, the sealing formation will completely collapse.

But before that, they had to get the demonic ants to rush onto the ground and disrupt the formation of the protective mage group.

"Then, the moment they break through the ground will be my only chance!" Valerie gritted her teeth, her mind replaying the incantation for a light-based magic orb.

In the distance, through Wang Xuefeng's scope, the crosshair always followed that seemingly empty wasteland.

Lucadi carried a greatsword on his back, and various signal flares rose from his palms.

Apart from Valerie's capture, everything else was under control.

That's why he felt a little uneasy.

It felt as if we had fallen into the enemy's trap.

"boom--"

"Bang!"

A deafening roar that shattered the ground rang out simultaneously with the sound of gunfire.

The black brain matter from the first exploding demon ant resembled a bizarre ice flower.

Wang Xuefeng used an ice-attribute enchantment, which slowed its movements down for a moment.

The other demonic ants that were originally following behind this demonic ant were caught off guard and their rhythm was disrupted by this sudden stop.

"Boom boom boom..." The earth-shattering roar began to break into chaos.

With such a smooth start, the nearest group of mages was able to react and began chanting area-of-effect spells, hurling them at the collapsing ground.

"Aaaaaah~~ Only half a meter left! Half a meter!"

Valerie was on the verge of tears atop the demonic ants, her body still half a meter away from crossing the "sealing line".

What's agonizing is that she has to wait until I get there before she can release the light sphere to completely repair the seal; otherwise, I won't be able to get out either.
