Owl Detective

Owl Detective

After watching the man and the bird go home to rest, the narrator slowly began to speak:

"As previously decided, the detective has finally decided to conceal his findings last night and pretend that he knows nothing."

"For now, they have no intention of catching those guys."

This was inconsistent with the detective’s previous straightforward approach to solving cases, which left the audience a bit disappointed.

[It seems that the detective was finally moved by the tragic life story of the criminal genius. ]

[We are all birds, so we should be able to empathize with the feeling of losing freedom...]

【Well, what about the owner? 】

[Find a way yourself. They are all nobles and don't seem to be short of gems. Besides, how can this kind of small wealth be circulated to society through the cat-crow crime chain and not be considered a form of robbing the rich to help the poor? ()]

【Hahahaha, yes, I feel relieved. It's not the same kind of murder case as before.】

After waking up from a nap, William sat at his desk and sorted out his thoughts.

Through the conversation he heard last night, combined with the doubts from the previous investigation, he could roughly confirm that the child the couple was talking about was the black cat.

So, the fact is that the black cat stole the jewelry from the Tower of London and gave it to the couple as a token of gratitude or affection.

Um……

If this is the case, it would be too strange to want to hold anyone accountable.

"Mr. Owl, what do you think?" William thought for a moment and decided to ask the detective for his opinion. He gently poked the sleeping owl on the shelf with a pen and asked anxiously, "Do you think I need to do anything?"

To his surprise, his ordinary action seemed to scare the other party.

The big bird, which had been sleeping peacefully with its neck tucked in, suddenly woke up, spread its wings, and grabbed the pen with sharp eyes, letting out a threatening "ha" sound from its throat.

William was also startled: "What's wrong? What happened?"

He didn't care about the pen, but just kept comforting the owl: "Sorry, did you have a nightmare? Don't worry, I'm here to protect you."

“…Gu.”

As the human repeated the words, the pair of frightened round eyes gradually calmed down, the owl opened its mouth, let go of the pen, lowered its eyes listlessly, and called out perfunctorily.

It just had a nightmare.

Birds have short dreams.

As a natural predator, the eagle owl's previous dreams were all about hunting prey and eating their flesh and blood, but the dream just now was about fighting with humans.

Coo coo.

It had never had this thought before...

After waking up, the owl stopped resting and looked around the table from time to time, and thus noticed the pencil drawing on the table.

William, who has a strong ability to remember scenes, just drew the scene of the cat he saw outside the store last night. The black cat's eyes and appearance are very lifelike.

Its tail was blown up and its eyes were wide open. It looked skinny, pitiful, weak and helpless under the dim light coming from the store.

Goo, do you want to catch the cat?

Seeing this, the eagle owl tilted its head, with a scrutinizing look in its eyes.

If we follow the previous cooperation model, the next second, the other party will go out with the paper to call for help, and then the guy on the paper will disappear.

So, the cat is going to die too?

"……never mind."

Not noticing the detective's death stare, William thought for a long time alone, and finally decided to fold the drawing and put it back in the drawer.

Having investigated to this point, he did not intend to follow up further.

After all, he himself had not accepted any lost-object commission, and he was only thinking of investigating because of the security risks in the East District.

If the criminal is a cat, there will be no hidden danger.

Perhaps, it just picked it up by accident and thought it looked nice, so it gave it to a human it was familiar with?

William sighed as he thought of what Charles had communicated with him before.

For black cats, just surviving in the city is probably a very difficult thing, so he shouldn't kill them all.

Well, just pretend you don’t know.

"Goooooo!"

After William put away the drawing, the owl, which had been looking at him coldly, suddenly became happy, actively moved its claws closer, and gently bit the human's fingers to interact with him. This action made William flattered.

His action seemed to make Mr. Owl happy...?

Thinking about this, combined with the owl's behavior last night, William had a bold guess - perhaps the detective did not fail to find clues last night, but discovered something and thought that he should not catch the cat, so he was passive and lazy.

Ah, combined with Mr. Owl's performance, that's what it feels like.

The young detective spoke tentatively:

"Mr. Owl, do you not want me to pursue this matter?"

"Coo."

William smiled as he and Owl had a telepathic connection for the first time. To express his excitement, he said jokingly, "Why? Does Mr. Owl need to pay hush money? For example, wear the clothes I bought for you... Ouch!"

It turns out that detectives can't stand being joked.

As soon as it sensed the human's emotion similar to opposition, the owl, which had been obedient and close to humans, instantly turned back to its original cold and irritable state and bit the human's chin fiercely.

William rubbed his red chin and smiled helplessly: “Sorry, sorry, I was just joking, it’s not necessary.”

After that, he lowered his posture and said a few soothing words before the detective finally calmed down.

But it must be said that this kind of give-and-take interaction still made William very happy.

The detective is not an emotionless detective, he also has his own preferences and temper, and they can communicate with each other. This discovery is enough to make him feel satisfied.

After all, no one else could partner with such a special owl detective like him.

After that night, life was still peaceful.

William had no intention of socializing with the upper class. Although the several banquets he had attended previously had made them somewhat famous, due to his indiscriminate rejection, that enthusiasm had gradually cooled, and the nobles began to pursue new things.

However, in the city, the Owl Detective is still the hottest topic among the people because the serialized stories in the newspapers constantly bring up topics.

But none of this matters.

For William, his daily routine was night patrols, solving cases, and taking care of detectives, just like usual, and the accident that night did not affect him at all.

But for the owl, with the discovery that night, it now has a group of new friends in the city with whom it can occasionally chat.

So, on nights when there were no night patrols, it would fly over half of the city and go to the Tower of London to play with the ravens there.

However, due to certain differences in concepts, they occasionally have disputes.

Both ravens and cats have a lot of opinions about humans, but once the owl has confirmed that his little brother is normal, he will intervene in the conversation about humans.

The opposing side was clearly dissatisfied.

Both the raven and the cat are committed to persuading the owl to unite and fight back against humans in order to gain more living space for them.

But the owl was not convinced.

After all, it has its own ability to survive and has reliable enough human minions, so it has no motivation to get into trouble with the cat-crow.

As an independent bird of prey, it trusts its own judgment more no matter what.

It was another evening, and William packed up and prepared to go out.

Seeing this, the owl skillfully landed on his shoulder, but was picked up and put back on the table by the human.

"Mr. Owl, today is not work, you don't have to go." The young man put on his hat and touched the owl's head. Although the corners of his mouth were raised, the smile did not reach his eyes. "It may be noisy where we go, so you'd better not go."

Owl: "Coo?"

It tilted its head, feeling a little confused.

Is my little brother going hunting again?

Didn't you go there once when it was sleeping?

"Well, you have a good rest at home. If you want to go out to play, remember to come back early."

The human didn't explain too much. He just gave some instructions and hurried out.

Gu...

The eagle owl just watched the humans leave.

After thinking for a moment, it flew away through the open window.

In that case, it goes to find the raven.

So the Owl flew to the Tower of London, and alighted in the garden where the ravens were resting.

Coincidentally, the black cat was also in the garden.

It seemed to have brought some news. The crows were all in high spirits and not a single one was sleeping.

Seeing the owl coming, they were even more excited. All seven of them started chirping at the same time. In the end, the eldest crow overpowered the rest of the crows and made a request to the owl:

Crow wants to go somewhere with Cat and hopes Owl can help!

"Goo-goo."

The eagle owl was bored, so he agreed.

It was about to grab the raven directly, but saw the old crow shook its head, bounced away, and then struggled to pull out a small basket from the haystack in the garden, stepped on the edge and jumped on it, and called excitedly to the owl in the basket:

"quack!"

Grab this one above!

owl:……

A noisy blackbird with a lot of trouble.

But in the end, out of curiosity, it reluctantly grabbed the basket, spread its wings and took off steadily, following the path of the black cat running on the ground.

Soon, they arrived outside a large building.

Before entering, the owl's extremely sensitive sound allowed it to distinguish many chaotic sounds hidden deep inside the building -

"roar--"

"Ah, ah."

In the center of the venue, there were chaotic animal calls. Their voices were a little hysterical, as if they were in a life-and-death situation, accompanied by the sound of limbs being torn apart.

It doesn't sound very good.

At the same time, the field was surrounded by human laughter and cheers. Perhaps they had seen something, and exclamations broke out in waves, like waves sweeping over the stormy sea.

“…Gu!”

It was so loud that it was a torture for owls with sensitive hearing at first.

Fortunately, the previous banquet gave the owl the ability to adapt. It hovered for a while, approached again, and brought the raven to rest on an open window of the building.

After a few seconds, the black cat also jumped up, found a place to nest, and looked around the interior of the venue curiously.

From here, they can see the center of the field, which is illuminated by lights.

In the center, a bull was tied to a pole, its body covered with bloody wounds, its nose and ears were missing pieces, its eyes were red, it was breathing heavily, and its head kept turning, guarding against several bulldogs waiting around.

After a while, one of the dogs finally pounced and bit the bull's other ear. But before it could exert any force, the mad bull shook its head violently and threw it heavily to the edge of the field.

But the bull did not have much time to catch its breath. The next second, other bulldogs rushed forward again and tore off many pieces of flesh from it.

After struggling, the rope that bound the bull finally broke at some point. The bull, having regained its freedom, launched its revenge and counterattack. Its heavy hooves directly broke the ribs of a bulldog.

"oh--!!"

The audience burst into exclamations as such changes occurred. Some people supported the dog, some supported the cow. The voices of support from different camps were overwhelming, and it seemed that they were cheering for the animals they supported in the central field.

They were excited about this artificially created bloody conflict.

In the end, several bulldogs were trampled to death, and the bull in the center was exhausted and fell in the middle of the field, almost unable to move.

But its exhaustion doesn't mean the show is over.

After that, someone let in a few big dogs covered in blood.

The owner of these big dogs had proudly announced before the event that his fighting dogs would continue to bite the bulls even if they had no limbs. This is the primitive and violent survival instinct of animals!

And the scene that followed unfolded just as he had boasted.

For this, there was another wave of screams and cheers from the audience.

On the top windowsill, the black cat and the raven watched intently.

The night wind blowing outside the window seemed to dispel the bloody smell here, making the tranquility and peace here the only pure land in the huge venue.

As the bull and the big dog were dragged off the field, the cat and the crow withdrew their gaze.

"Meow meow meow." People are really good and bad.

"Gah." Agree.

They sighed and finally turned to ask the always quiet owl what he thought about it.

This is a special arena, and all humans present have a special liking for watching beast fights and cheer for all violence.

Excited by the blood and wailing of animals, this is how they perceive humans.

Isn’t this bad enough!

"...Gu." Very noisy.

The owl half-lowered its eyes and seemed to be indifferent.

But to say it doesn’t feel like anything is not right…it’s complicated.

In short, the only certainty is that it does not want to get into a similar situation, so it has to avoid the humans present.

Who knows one day they might want to see an owl perform on stage!

With this thought in mind, Owl looked around, scanning the dimly lit audience seats, trying to remember these enthusiastic faces.

Look past——

His eyes paused.

In the owl's vision, a familiar face appeared.

His younger brother was also in the audience.

Detective looks at cats, looks at raven - a little pity, but not much

The detective watches the bull and the fighting dog - he tries to be prepared
