Owl Detective
The narrator spoke faintly:
"Just when the detective was enjoying the leisure time at the banquet, a strange congressman suddenly came and was very enthusiastic towards him."
"Although his attitude was very bad, the congressman remained calm and pulled the detective to inquire about his life like a pervert."
"The unsuspecting detective told the truth."
"Impatient and irritated with such a conversation, the detective turned away and left the party, but unexpectedly discovered something in the garden."
In the picture, an eagle owl is hovering above a tree, making elongated cooing sounds from time to time, which sounds a bit eerie in the quiet garden.
The two who had chased after them paused.
Charles, who was unfamiliar with owls, just felt confused, while William, who was experienced in cooperation, began to sweat.
There were many discarded boxes and fabrics from the banquet piled up under the tree. Nothing seemed unusual, but when William moved a few boxes away, he saw a hand that had begun to turn purple in the cracks.
He exhaled deeply.
Sure enough, something happened again.
Audience members in the live broadcast room: Oh wow.
As expected.
[When I saw the owl acting alone again, I knew something big was going to happen. Sure enough, someone died again! ]
[It's so funny, why does it feel like something bad happens wherever I go? Vision of a certain death god elementary school student ()]
[Shocked! It turns out that Owl is a great detective! Horrible!]
[Hahahaha, was it just me who paid attention to what the narrator said earlier? Considering the way Owl treated the congressman just now... well, he is really a very bad detective. ]
[Humph, owls are birds of prey, so what's wrong with scratching them? And this Mediterranean guy seems to be enjoying it (bushi)]
[Don’t be so mad, this guy has a great idea about animals! It would be great if he could successfully implement the relevant protection bill! ]
[I understand! Combining the predictions, the subsequent plot is definitely that the mysterious aura of the owl detective will shine throughout the empire, making the parliament tremble and unanimously pass the animal protection bill! ]
[Ohhhh great! The great detective who changed the entire empire! ]
The audience’s imagination is beautiful, but before that, people have to deal with this case first.
Under the owl's subtle guidance, William discovered something even more shocking.
There was some oily liquid around these piles of debris.
Combined with the case, it is easy for people to make associations -
The debris was originally relatively dry and flammable, and with the addition of fuel, it only took a tiny spark to ignite it, burning many things beyond recognition...
Even if one of the bodies was discovered, the traces of fire would naturally cover up the original signs of death, making people think that the body might be an accident caused by the servants of the manor who failed to put out the fire in time.
There were many servants hired temporarily at such banquets, so no one thought it was wrong even if no one claimed the body, and this case, which was most likely a murder, was classified as an accident.
Therefore, the criminal may have intended to cover up the body by setting fire.
But the fire cannot be controlled, and if you are not careful, it may spread to the entire estate.
After reaching this conclusion, William immediately communicated with Charles, watched Charles leave, and stayed under the tree to guard the body to prevent the criminals from setting fire.
"Gu! Gu!"
The owl, which was busy up there, saw the other person leaving, so it flew down leisurely, tilted its head to look at him for a while, and suddenly bit the human's ear.
William happened to be calculating the time that would be spent on this case. When the eagle owl made its presence known, he immediately thought that he had to take advantage of this free time to feed the bird so that it would not starve in the second half of the night. So he consciously took out the meat from his pocket and fed it to him.
"Goo-goo."
"Coo, coo, coo."
The hard-working detective got his reward as he wished, smacked his lips with satisfaction after swallowing the last bite, and flew away to do something else.
Eh? Mr. Detective, aren't you going to stay?
William looked at its back with some surprise, observing the corpse with some lingering doubts.
As he looked at it, he suddenly understood why the owl left.
This case probably won't be too complicated.
The criminal could think of covering the body with such an extreme method as burning it. There is a high probability that he had some relationship with the victim, or even some interests involved. As long as the body can be recognized, he can be thought of, so he would think of taking the risk to do so.
Now the body is intact and all the traces of the arrangement are there. The scope has been narrowed down to the servant who prepared the decorations for today's banquet. Probably, the case can be solved by gathering people to question them.
No wonder the detective is not interested in this place. After all, as long as the body is found here at the beginning, the case can be solved with simple follow-up questioning. It does not require any technical skills.
And that is indeed what happened later.
When the banquet was forced to pause, the manager of the manor urgently called all the servants of the manor that day to come in and identify the body at William's request, and the case was quickly solved.
The criminal was a servant in the manor. He probably had an ambiguous relationship with the deceased. For some unknown reason, he killed the other person. During the subsequent handling, he became more ruthless and planned to cover up his behavior by setting fire.
The idea is bold, and the execution is simple and crude.
But it must be said that the simpler things are, the easier it is to succeed. If Owl had not discovered the body before setting the fire, he might have really escaped legal punishment.
"Arson?! Doesn't he know we're all here?!"
"What if it burns into the house... it's unimaginable! Even if it turns my skirt black, it's unforgivable!"
"Oh, what an ugly man, no wonder he can only be a servant."
The people who were waiting for news in the house and finally learned the truth complained like this, full of disgust at the prisoners who ruined their wonderful banquet.
At the same time, their impression of the Owl Detective Team improved significantly.
"I originally thought it was just a newspaper exaggeration, but I didn't expect it to actually solve the case!"
"I suddenly feel a little safer. Come to think of it, I just thought they looked majestic and dignified, just like the Royal Guards!"
"It seems to be of some real substance... I wonder which one is better, compared to the raven in the Tower of London?"
The banquet was forced to be suspended due to a sudden case. When William finished his contact with the police station, the time was approaching the end of the banquet plan. He thought he was going to go back, but he received an additional meeting invitation.
Her Royal Highness the Princess, who had been late for the banquet, invited him to meet in the reception room.
William went there with surprise and trepidation, and unexpectedly saw Charles having a lively conversation with his colleagues in the hall.
Actually, the purpose of his visit was to give some suggestions to the congressman on the security issues in the East District. He just mentioned it to Charles casually and wondered if the other party could convey it on his behalf.
However, it was just a brief exchange, probably not enough for Mr. Charles to pass on his message...
William withdrew his gaze without much hope, his mind completely focused on the meeting with the royal family, feeling a little nervous.
"Good evening. I am glad to meet you at last, young and promising detective."
The young princess behaved with good etiquette and cultivation in every move. She first thanked William in a very official way for his efforts in solving the case tonight, then praised William's hard work in the East District, and finally began to express her feelings about the relationship between the prosperity of the country and the efforts of the people.
William: ...
He wasn't really good at dealing with situations like this, but he still responded anyway.
"...Oh, and there's the owl." After going through so much trouble, Elizabeth felt that she had done a perfect job on the surface. She finally asked with some sincerity in a brisk tone, "I already know that this magical bird actually helped with all these cases, right?"
"...Yes, Your Highness."
William responded hesitantly, and seeing the smile in the princess' eyes, he felt a little uneasy.
As expected, the next second, the feeling of uneasiness came true——
"Then would you allow me to buy it from you and make it my guardian bird?"
William was silent for a moment, then replied, "I'm sorry, Your Highness, I don't have the right to decide who the detective belongs to. He is a free bird, and I am just a partner with him."
Seeing the smile in the princess' eyes disappear in an instant, he paused and added sincerely: "As you can see, I don't even know its whereabouts now. I am not its owner, so I naturally have no right to sell its freedom."
Elizabeth leaned back slightly, leaning against the soft back of the chair, stroking the ring on her hand from time to time, and seemed a little unhappy.
A servant watched for a while, then leaned over to the princess and whispered something in her ear.
William knew that he now looked like an ungrateful and unruly person.
But, as he said, he was not the owner of the owl and naturally could not transfer the ownership.
The young man tried to make his expression more calm and looked at the princess sincerely, trying to make her give up the idea.
Narrator:
"The case was extremely simple. The detective took a few glances and left without interest, but he didn't want the host of the party to notice him."
"This unique detective is like a shining diamond, and every move he makes is particularly attractive."
"So, the princess called the detective and hinted that she liked his partner."
The audience was shocked.
[What? What kind of plot is this! ]
[I understand, it must be to highlight the detective's charm! ]
[I am dying of laughter, hahahahaha, is the detective going to lose his partner? ]
[If it were a human, it would be very strange... but if it were an owl, it would be understandable! Maybe the princess wanted to have a pet or something like that!]
"Okay, you can go now."
After hearing what the servant said, Elizabeth's brows relaxed slightly. Before signaling William to leave, she added pointedly: "Don't forget what you said just now. You don't know where the owl is. If it is really a free bird, then if I find an owl in the manor, it will not be your partner."
William was stunned: “…Yes.”
Until he walked out of the manor, he still didn't understand what the princess meant.
"Goooooo!"
As soon as he got into the carriage, William saw a big bird swooping towards him in the night. He skillfully raised his arms to catch it and then held it on his shoulder.
"You're just in time, Detective."
"Gu."
"I thought you had gone back, but I didn't expect you were still here."
"Coo."
"Are you having fun here?"
"Coo-coo!"
With the sound of wheels rolling on the ground, the man and the bird left in the carriage.
At the same time, in the brightly lit manor——
"Haven't you found it yet?"
"Can an owl fly that far?"
"You didn't trim its feathers? Aren't you afraid it will run away?"
William thought that the banquet was just a brief experience of upper society, but after a few night patrols as usual, he received another invitation from the princess.
This time, she invited William and the owl to visit the Tower of London together.
Owl: What should I do if there are always people vying to be my younger brother? (Innocent)
