Chapter 10 Offended
◎My husband is not at home~◎
Jiang Siyue hurried all the way to the South Gate. She saw a car with its hazard lights on not far away, so she ran into the car. After fastening her seat belt, Jiang Siyue breathed a sigh of relief and took off the hood of her sweatshirt.
"Are you so afraid of being seen?" Zhao Yan teased.
"Of course! It wouldn't be good if others knew."
There was nothing wrong with Zhao Yan being her mentor, but rumors were a concern. Jiang Siyue looked determined, then as if remembering something, she said, "Why didn't you tell me you were a professor at the University of Finance and Economics? Or even from the School of Economics?"
Zhao Yan started the car slowly and said, "You didn't ask."
"I..." Jiang Siyue was speechless. She had thought about not prying too much into Zhao Yan's life, but who knew that he would actually... No wonder she was always a little afraid of Zhao Yan before. It turned out that it was the natural suppression of teachers over students.
The car moved slowly and Jiang Siyue leaned against it to digest the facts.
Although the University of Finance and Economics wasn't as strong as Hua University in terms of overall strength, its economics department was one of the best in the country. Zhao Yan's resume was even more impressive than any other professor at Hua University. His guidance would definitely be beneficial to his major, but... he twisted the straps of his sweatshirt, thought for a moment, and asked, "How did I perform today?"
"generally."
Jiang Siyue's almond-shaped eyes widened slightly. At the group meeting today, she thought she had performed the best, answering all the questions with understanding. Zhao Yan's expression had been normal at the time, but why did he suddenly change his mind now?
"How do I not meet your requirements?" Jiang Siyue asked in a serious tone. Her graduate school life was in jeopardy, and she couldn't let Zhao Yan reject her.
The car pulled into the parking lot, Zhao Yan turned off the engine, tilted his head and said seriously, "You said bad things about me to Yue Huan in private, and you still expect me to give you a high evaluation."
"I—" Jiang Siyue was momentarily speechless. Who knew he was right behind her at the time? Guilty and with her head down, she whispered, "I just wanted to ask the boss about this in advance, and who knew it was you... So are you willing to take me with you?"
After laying the groundwork for a long time, it turned out that she was afraid of being rejected. It was probably because Teacher Gao said something to scare her. Zhao Yan looked at her eyes, which were filled with hope and were moist.
"Of course I have to take you." Zhao Yan looked at her suddenly smiling face, unbuckled his seatbelt, and got out of the car. Jiang Siyue followed closely behind him, and the elevator of the mall had not yet come down.
"What are you going to do if I don't take you with me?" Zhao Yan asked casually.
Jiang Siyue had never really thought about this question. She felt that even if she wasn't a genius in economics, she was diligent and hardworking, so Zhao Yan had no reason to refuse.
"If you don't take me with you." Jiang Siyue started thinking on the spot, "I will beg you." The moment the words came out, a rough plan had already formed in her mind.
"You're at home every day, and I have plenty of time. When you're annoyed enough, you'll agree to me."
Zhao Yan was stunned for a moment, then he lowered his head and chuckled softly, his tone bright, "You have a point."
Jiang Siyue laughed with him.
Neither of them had high expectations for food, so after taking the elevator to the fifth floor, they found a random restaurant to sit down and comfort their stomachs. Zhao Yan finished eating before her, poured a glass of water, and drank it slowly. Glancing at her messy hair and wrinkled clothes, he frowned and suggested, "Do you want to go shopping for some new clothes?"
Jiang Siyue noticed his gaze, her face flushed, and she explained, "I deliberately dressed a little shabbily today so that the instructor wouldn't have the heart to exploit me." But since he was the boss, this set of "battle suit" specially for group meetings was dispensable.
"Are you happy?" Zhao Yan asked suddenly. Jiang Siyue's chopsticks stopped in the air, wondering if she had missed anything.
Zhao Yan repeated: "Are you happy that you don't have to pick up the kids or receive packages anymore?"
Jiang Siyue's mind twitched, and she spoke too quickly to react, "I will still have to take care of the child in the future."
The smile on Zhao Yan's face disappeared visibly, and his eyes quickly returned to indifference. Jiang Siyue felt uneasy, and then she realized what she had said and hurriedly made amends, "Well, I was just kidding. I'm done eating. Let's go."
It must be because I ate too much carbohydrates. I feel dizzy. I need to get some fresh air to calm down.
Zhao Yan's expression brightened slightly, and he picked up his coat beside him. "Yeah."
On the way back, both sides tacitly did not speak. After entering the room, Zhao Yan took out his tablet as usual, and Jiang Siyue went back to the room with her notebook. After a while, they were completely focused on studying, and when they looked up again, it was dark.
After turning off the computer, Jiang Siyue stretched her body a few times and stood up. She felt a little hungry. Today, the housekeeping staff had taken a leave, so she had to take care of dinner on her own. She opened the door and walked out. The living room was pitch black. Zhao Yan was not there.
Jiang Siyue breathed a sigh of relief but also felt lost. After reaching out to turn on the light, she found Zhao Yan, whom she thought was absent, sitting on the balcony with his back to her.
Jiang Siyue hesitated whether to turn off the light again.
"Hungry?" Zhao Yan stood up and walked inside, his vague figure gradually becoming more solid. Jiang Siyue nodded, "I'll make some instant noodles, do you want some?"
After waiting for a while, Zhao Yan didn't answer, so Jiang Siyue turned around and went into the kitchen. In just a moment, the two of them seemed to have returned to the state they were in at the beginning, polite and unfamiliar.
There were some vegetables in the refrigerator that the housekeeper had bought. Jiang Siyue didn't know how to cook, so she only took out an egg and some greens. While washing the vegetables, she caught a glimpse of Zhao Yan approaching. Jiang Siyue hesitated for a moment, thinking he wanted to eat too. She turned off the water and turned to get some more from the refrigerator.
"Go out." Zhao Yan suddenly said, "I'll do it."
As he spoke, he had already skillfully put on his apron and rolled up his sleeves. Jiang Siyue no longer insisted and gave him her seat. She stood at the door, ready to help at any time.
Zhao Yan washed and cut the vegetables skillfully. Jiang Siyue was surprised when she saw the evenly sized shredded potatoes.
With Young Master Zhao Yan's configuration, he doesn't look like someone who can cook, but when he tries... it's not impossible that he ends up serving Wensi tofu.
"Can you eat spicy food?" Zhao Yan turned around and asked again.
"Yes." Jiang Siyue nodded vigorously.
I can't help much with this situation, but I don't want to leave either. Watching him cook is a pleasure.
The only sound in the quiet kitchen was the range hood. Jiang Siyue leaned against the door, staring at Zhao Yan intently, as time passed by.
When the meal was ready, Zhao Yan had also finished his last dish. Jiang Siyue was very conscious of being a freeloader, so she eagerly put the dish on the table and served the rice.
She was busy with her work, with a relaxed and happy smile on her face. Zhao Yan just looked at her at first, then gradually lost in thought, until his waist loosened and he lowered his head. It was Jiang Siyue who untied his apron string for him.
Jiang Siyue walked around to him, and after noticing his gaze, her heart skipped a beat, and she sounded the alarm. She looked up a little nervously, "How about I tie it for you again?"
She saw that Zhao Yan was still wearing plastic gloves and it was inconvenient for him to take off his apron. Her intention was to flatter him, but she didn't want to flatter him.
"No need." Zhao Yan lowered his head, "Take it off for me."
Is this a sign of reconciliation? Jiang Siyue wondered, tiptoeing to carefully remove her apron.
Zhao Yan was very tall. Even if Jiang Siyue lowered her head, it was still difficult for her to reach his neck. Her fingertips accidentally brushed against his ear, and she reflexively shrank back, then said, "Lower yourself a little."
Zhao Yan bent down obediently. Jiang Siyue quickly took off her apron, turned around and hung it back in the kitchen.
She was indeed very hungry. After sitting down, she immediately started eating. Zhao Yan's cooking was delicious, which was completely different from his appearance. Zhao Yan watched her eat up the food and began to doubt whether the food on the table was enough for her.
After dinner, Zhao Yan cleaned up simply, and Jiang Siyue paced in the living room to digest the food.
"I'm going on a business trip to Linchuan in a couple of days." Zhao Yan put a plate of grapes on the coffee table. "If you don't want to take the subway to class, you can drive. You know how to drive, right?"
Jiang Siyue nodded and asked tentatively, "Meeting?"
"Um."
Jiang Siyue's eyes lit up, and after a moment's hesitation, she asked, "Who are the guests?"
Zhao Yan saw through her thoughts at a glance, "They basically specialize in metalworking, which has nothing to do with what you are interested in."
As long as it came to academic matters, her emotions were clearly expressed, but when she heard this, the light in her eyes suddenly faded, and she listlessly grabbed the grapes and stuffed them into her mouth.
"There are many people doing this abroad. Next time there's something similar, I'll tell you."
"Okay." Jiang Siyue went to take a shower happily.
Zhao Yan looked at her happy expression, raised his lips, and suddenly thought of something in his heart. His hand unconsciously brushed across his ear.
*
Without Zhang Min'an's oppression, Jiang Siyue felt more relaxed when going to Hua University, and the econometrics class was not so scary anymore.
It was another weekend. After Jiang Siyue woke up, she rolled around happily on the big bed for a few times before getting up from the bed.
Jiang Siyue sent a text message to Meng Zhuqing to make an appointment, but was rejected as expected. She sighed and thought about how to spend the day. Li Chuan sent her a message asking her out for dinner. Before she could reply, she received a message from Yue Huan.
Yue Huan: A big dinner, everyone is here, all the masters and students are gathered together.
Yue Huan: The seniors have a lot of part-time job resources, so it's worth joining.
Graduate students would help mark various exam papers when they had nothing to do; it was a quick and easy way to earn money. Jiang Siyue had been constantly squeezed out by Zhang Min'an, and now that she had the opportunity, she wanted to make some extra money.
After asking for the address, Jiang Siyue packed herself up and took the subway to meet up with everyone.
Unlike the depressing atmosphere in Zhang Min'an's group, Zhao Yan's group was relaxed and everyone was having fun. Jiang Siyue was a little nervous when he first arrived, but later, driven by the atmosphere, he also drank a few glasses of wine.
After another glass of wine, Li Chuan couldn't help but remind her: "Drink less."
Jiang Siyue smiled gratefully at Li Chuan's reminder. "Beer's fine," she said, then looked back at the seniors who were competing in a drinking contest. Li Chuan frowned, but couldn't say anything else. Yue Huan, standing by, turned her head away uncomfortably, her heart aching for Li Chuan.
"Siyue." Yue Huan walked over and worked hard for his breakfast for a week, "What kind of boys do you like?" Li Chuan on the side pricked up his ears when he heard this.
This question stumped Jiang Siyue. She didn't want to think about this question before, but now it seems unnecessary to think about it.
A sharp sound was heard, and the surroundings instantly became quiet. Jiang Siyue immediately looked towards the source of the sound, but unfortunately, everyone had surrounded them, so she didn't know what had happened.
Li Chuan stood up and stood beside her, comforting her: "Don't be afraid, it might just be a bottle that fell to the ground."
Jiang Siyue was puzzled and said, "I'm not afraid."
Yue Huan, who had watched the whole process, felt dizzy and held his forehead helplessly.
Meng Ran came down from the second floor and looked at the gathered people with an unhappy expression. When the manager saw him, he broke out in a sweat and hurriedly urged the security guard on the intercom.
It was just a small matter of being drunk, how come the boss just happened to come out.
Meng Ran has been running a restaurant for many years and realized what happened instantly. He didn't pay much attention to it and walked around the crowd to leave, but he caught a glimpse of a figure out of the corner of his eye.
Jiang Siyue was wearing a white coat and had an abnormal blush on her face. She stood on the edge of the encirclement, paying just the right amount of attention to what was happening inside.
Meng Ran was happy, raised his hand to take a photo and sent it out.
