Chapter 20 Banquet

Chapter 20 Banquet

◎Talking about love is vulgar◎

"Brother Zhao Yan! Sister-in-law, I'm fine!" A confused and innocent voice broke in. Before her heartbeat quickened, Jiang Siyue pulled herself away from Zhao Yan's arms and went to get the things on the chair.

A few seconds later, Jiang Siyue smiled at Zhang Heng and said, "Let's go!"

Everyone was very tired, so they found a designated driver to drive home. Zhang Heng sat in the passenger seat and felt that Zhao Yan looked at him a little strangely, but he had done a great job today! As soon as Lin Youyou started to act strange, he immediately notified her.

After thinking carefully for a while without any results, the simple-minded Zhang Heng chose to give up and talked to Zhao Yan about another matter, "Brother Zhao Yan, you are going to attend Grandpa's birthday party tomorrow before leaving, right?"

"Birthday banquet?" Jiang Siyue tilted her head and looked at Zhao Yan in confusion.

Zhang Ying wanted to drag him back every year for this birthday party. Zhang Sheng was also a well-known figure in Qingchuan, and the people who came to participate had abundant resources. Zhang Ying wanted him to come over to accumulate connections.

However, Zhao Yan was not interested in this and said, "I won't participate."

"As expected." Zhang Heng slumped down in his chair, "I don't want to participate either. It's so boring."

Jiang Siyue was not a nosy person. Since Zhao Yan said he would not participate, she did not ask for details.

The three-day holiday was coming to an end. Jiang Siyue opened her eyes drowsily and yawned when she saw Zhao Yan sitting by the window with a tablet in his hand.

As expected, completing a doctorate in such a short time requires both talent and hard work. Jiang Siyue felt that she had put in a lot of effort in scientific research, but in front of Zhao Yan, she was still a nobody.

"Awake?" Zhao Yan heard the noise, looked up at her, then lowered his head again. "What do you want to eat? I'll ask the servant to bring lunch up."

Jiang Siyue sighed heavily, rolled over, and wrapped herself up like a cicada pupa. She said in a muffled voice, "Teacher Zhao, you made me feel guilty just waking up this morning."

"I'm working ahead of time, correcting students' papers. Why do you feel guilty?"

"Um?"

Zhao Yan finished writing the last comment and put the tablet aside. "I'll attend the birthday party tonight and go home tomorrow."

"Why did you change it suddenly?"

Zhao Yan's eyes flickered a few times. This morning, while dining in the restaurant, he overheard a conversation between the servants regarding Jiang Siyue and Zhang Cheng's "worldly" issues. Changing one's mind was a matter of a moment.

"Give Mr. Zhang a gift." Zhao Yan smiled faintly. Jiang Siyue was confused, but she had no objection to anything.

Zhao Yan and Jiang Siyue stayed to attend the party. The happiest person was Zhang Heng, who kept chattering behind them. Zhao Yan was annoyed and drove Zhang Heng away on the pretext of trying on a dress.

The dresses were delivered to her home in the afternoon. Jiang Siyue took a few glances and found that they were all from top international luxury brands.

"Choose according to your preferences." After Zhao Yan finished speaking, the phone rang and he walked to the window to answer it.

Jiang Siyue sighed at the dress in front of her. After marrying Zhao Yan, her life had changed a lot. Many plots that only appeared in TV dramas were happening in her daily life. Her worries also changed from what to eat for lunch to what to wear for a dress.

But the amazing thing was that she didn't find it difficult to adapt, nor did she feel a huge gap. Everything felt very natural, and the fundamental reason for this comfort was...

Zhao Yan stood in front of the window, wearing a neat suit and a meticulous hairstyle. His free right hand casually waved the Lego on the table. Outside the European-style window, various colorful flowers and plants were reflected, exquisite and elegant.

He just stood there, talking casually on the phone, discussing experimental data with others, relaxed and at ease, not caring about the fame and fortune that would come later.

With a "crash", the Lego slid down. Jiang Siyue came back to her senses, patted her cheek, and turned her attention to the dress.

Dresses are very troublesome to put on and take off. Jiang Siyue took a quick look at the styles and chose a pink suspender dress. The off-white pink color is not flashy. The pleated design disappears at the calf, and there is a loose fishtail design below. The overall look is simple yet exquisite.

However, the fundamental reason why Jiang Siyue chose it was that this dress looked easy to wear, while other dresses were either strapless or tight-fitting mermaids, which always felt inconvenient.

After changing clothes, they continued with their styling. Jiang Siyue sat obediently on the chair and let them do the fiddling.

"Wow, you're actually memorizing words!" the curly-haired hairstylist exclaimed, pointing at her phone. "That's rare."

Jiang Siyue smiled politely and said, "I have nothing to do sitting here, so I might as well just memorize some words." If she had a choice, she would not want to memorize words, after all, she was a poor student.

After finishing everything, it was already dark. Jiang Siyue quickly checked the time and breathed a sigh of relief when she found that she was still in time. "I'm fine—"

Zhao Yan sat at the table, his long legs crossed, fiddling with his phone casually. When he met her gaze, his eyelashes fluttered slightly.

"Let's go." Jiang Siyue looked away, picked up the matching bag and walked towards the door.

"etc."

Jiang Siyue turned around, confused. Zhao Yan stood up and walked to where the dresses were kept. He found a white fur-collared shawl from a pile of bags and gently draped it over her shoulders. "It's cold outside."

"Yeah." Jiang Siyue nodded, and suddenly felt a chill on his chest. He crossed his fingers, as if looking for a clasp, and said hurriedly, "I can do it myself."

Zhao Yan didn't comment, but his hands didn't stop moving. After the buckle was embedded, it made an extremely subtle sound, and his slightly cold fingertips withdrew.

The car stopped in front of the hotel. Jiang Siyue got out and walked into the venue holding Zhao Yan's arm.

When they arrived at the banquet, Zhang Jiuan, the uncle's son, came forward to talk to Zhao Yan. Zhao Yan saw that Jiang Siyue was bored and asked her to eat by herself. Of course, Jiang Siyue was more than happy to do so.

After browsing the buffet area for a while, Zhang Heng, dressed in formal attire, came out to greet her. His eyes sparkled as he praised her directly, "Sister-in-law, you're so beautiful! Prettier than any of the other young ladies here today."

This was the first time Jiang Siyue had been praised so directly. Her face flushed slightly, "Don't flatter me too much."

"Really!" Zhang Heng's face turned serious. He leaned closer to Jiang Siyue and whispered, "They are vulgarly beautiful, but you have elegance."

Jiang Siyue's head was covered with a few invisible black lines. "Okay, okay, which one here tastes better?"

"The cod is good." Zhang Heng also took a few pieces. "I used to be curious about what kind of person is worthy of Brother Zhao Yan. When you two appeared together arm in arm just now, I felt that person should be someone like you."

Jiang Siyue looked at him with a smile, not taking his words to heart.

"So, sister-in-law." Zhang Heng leaned close to her, his tone very gossipy, "Do you like my brother?"

Jiang Siyue paused, her smile fading as she glanced at the snow-capped mountain in the center of the buffet area. "Your brother is like the snow on the mountaintop: cold, pure, and unattainable," she said. With her eyelids drooping, she turned to Zhang Heng and said, "Talking about liking him is cliché."

Zhang Heng seemed stunned by her words and fell into deep thought. Jiang Siyue walked around him with a smile, searching for food that caught her eye.

"Then you are the spring of the world." Zhang Heng quickly stood in front of her with a serious look, "If my brother is the snow on the mountain, you are the spring of the world. The moment he touches you, he will melt away."

Jiang Siyue stopped smiling, a little puzzled as to why Zhang Heng was so serious at the moment. She took a deep breath and teased, "Boy, you're pretty good at Chinese."

Zhang Heng lowered his head and smiled sheepishly, then raised his eyes and asked, "So you will always be with my brother, right?"

"Yeah." Jiang Siyue nodded, "If nothing unexpected happens."

Only then did Zhang Heng laugh.

"What are you talking about? You look so happy." Zhao Yan walked over, put the wine glass aside, and took a plate.

Zhang Heng: "We are talking about—"

"What's delicious?" Jiang Siyue interrupted quickly and picked up something on Zhang Heng's plate. "This one is delicious."

Zhao Yan saw through her intention to change the subject, so he handed over the plate as well, "Then give me a piece."

Jiang Siyue sighed quietly, thankful to have moved on. If Zhang Heng had spoken, he would have told him everything. He would have heard those words again in front of Zhao Yan. Just thinking about the words "bright and clear, snow on the mountain" made his teeth ache.

This was a banquet hosted by the Zhang family. Although the food in the dining area was delicious, everyone's attention was on socializing. After Jiang Siyue ate until she was 70% full, she had to put down her plate due to the restrictions of her dress.

Jiang Siyue tilted her head to look at the center. Zhang Ying was standing next to Zhang Sheng, taking photos and occasionally chatting with the guests. "Should we also go and toast later?"

Zhao Yan heard the resistance in her tone and denied it, "No need, Mr. Zhang has taken it with him."

"Okay." Jiang Siyue raised the corner of her mouth.

Zhao Yan glanced at the message from Zhang Jiuan and said to Jiang Siyue, "Do you want to go out for a walk?"

"Is it okay?" Jiang Siyue looked surprised.

"Of course." Zhao Yan took her hand and walked around the crowd. After a while, his vision suddenly became wider.

Warm neon lights enveloped the entire city. Pedestrians were strolling leisurely on the road, the sound of fountains was tinkling in the ears, and the air was filled with a relaxing atmosphere.

A gust of wind blew, and Jiang Siyue took it all in. The fur collar on her shoulders disappeared without a trace, and she shivered violently. Zhao Yan frowned and said, "I'll go get a blanket. You wait here."

Before she could say no, Zhao Yan had already walked away. Jiang Siyue sighed softly and hugged her arms. She had thought they were just walking around the hotel, but Zhao Yan took her straight out.

There is a small square outside the hotel. The musical fountain in the center is in operation. A group of children are running past the fountain before it falls, laughing one after another.

Jiang Siyue watched and was mesmerized.

She had seen the fountain before and wanted to play like this, but Zhou Hong didn't let her, saying that only children could do that and it was nonsense for her, a junior high school student, to play like that.

A child miscalculated and the fountain showered him. A moment later, two parents ran over and laughed at the child. The child, who had been quite nervous, joined in the laughter.

Jiang Siyue withdrew her gaze and drooped her eyelids slightly.

A little envious.

"Want to play?" Zhao Yan had come to her side without her noticing, and put the blanket over her shoulders, blocking out most of the cold. Jiang Siyue smiled, her eyes sparkling, and shook her head at Zhao Yan, "I'm not a child anymore."

Zhao Yan looked her up and down, and raised the corner of his mouth. "It's not against the law."

It was rare to hear Zhao Yan's rogue words. Jiang Siyue didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She pointed at the dress and said, "This dress is not convenient either. Passersby will think I'm crazy."

Zhao Yan stood at the bottom of the stairs, two steps lower than her, and looked at her calmly. Jiang Siyue pursed her lips and said, "Just get some fresh air here—hey?"
