Chapter 63 Calm

Chapter 63 Calm

◎ “The beginning of all complex relationships is a simple beginning.”◎

The car suddenly became quiet. Zhao Yan looked at her hesitantly, wanting to say something. After realizing that she had lost her temper at Zhao Yan, she pursed her lips, turned her head away, and remained silent.

Growing up, she rarely got angry at others, and most of the comments she received were for her gentleness. However, just now - a wave of regret and uneasiness flashed through her heart. These emotions had no source, but they completely occupied her heart like a swarm of locusts.

She would never be so unreasonable to others, and she would never refuse to listen to explanations.

His body suddenly leaned forward. It turned out that Zhao Yan had started the car. He looked straight ahead without any distractions, and his tightly pursed lips revealed the turbulent emotions in his heart.

The only sound in the silent car was the ticking of the turn signal, one after another, dull and tedious. As the car slowly merged into the main lane, even this dull sound disappeared.

Just looking at his stern profile, Jiang Siyue had no idea what he was feeling at the moment.

Maybe she felt that she was an unreasonable and irrational woman. He had explained it so clearly, but she still didn't believe it. She must be disgusted with herself, right? Looking at it from another angle, if she explained it seriously and Zhao Yan didn't listen to a word, her anger would probably be enough to make an elixir.

My mind was in a mess just now, and I just wanted to vent my unhappiness. After calming down and thinking about it, Zhao Yan was definitely not the kind of person who would kiss An Lin behind my back. There was no need to covet that moment and put myself in a despicable position. He seemed to have explained everything just now, but I didn't listen to a word. I insisted on meeting him on Monday...

The car was driving steadily, and the word "hotel" flashed by on the roadside.

"Just drop me off here." Jiang Siyue took out her cell phone, clicked on a group tour and started looking for a hotel. Two seconds later, she found that the car not only did not slow down, but it was getting faster.

"I'm not going home, stop!" He still didn't respond. Jiang Siyue's guilt and uneasiness disappeared, and she raised her voice and said, "Zhao Yan, did you hear me?"

"Yeah." Zhao Yan looked straight ahead, "The hotel is not safe. If you want to be alone, I'll go to Sun Yao's house."

"I--"

"Don't even think about staying in a hotel." Zhao Yan interrupted her, "Just stay at home peacefully. You know I know my limits and won't force you."

Jiang Siyue stopped talking, leaned her back gently on the cushion, turned her head to the side, and refused to communicate with him anymore.

Half an hour later, the car stopped in front of the house. After waiting for a while, Jiang Siyue curled up in the passenger seat and slept uneasily.

In the dim light of the car, Zhao Yan saw the dark circles under her eyes. He leaned closer and the shadow of his fingertips fell on her cheek. She seemed to feel something and moaned. Zhao Yan withdrew his hand, took off his coat and covered her with it, then turned and got out of the car.

The sky in Yunjing darkens quickly in early winter. It's not even six o'clock yet, but the surroundings are already gray. He squats casually beside the low fence of the greenery, rolls up his sleeves that are in the way, looks straight ahead, and stares blankly.

My heart felt empty, emptier than ever before. This emptiness was extremely unbearable, but I was eager to fill it with something. After searching around, I finally found a box of cigarettes in my trouser pocket.

I opened the cigarette box unfamiliarly, took out a cigarette and opened it. The faint aroma of tobacco penetrated my nose, as if filling the emptiness in my heart.

The cell phone rang cheerfully. Zhao Yan picked up Sun Yao's call, but before he could say anything, he heard a scream from the other end.

"Hey buddy, are you okay? The Yi family is in turmoil!"

Zhao Yan put the tobacco into his palm, walked to a little further away, and said coldly: "You're still alive, what's the matter?"

"Tsk..." Sun Yao smacked his lips. "You hid it really well. You and An Lin know each other? You almost kissed and Jiang Siyue saw you."

Zhao Yan glanced at Jiang Siyue who was sleeping soundly in the car, "What do you mean?"

Sun Yao was amused. "The Yi family has surveillance cameras everywhere. They recorded everything you and An Lin did in the small corridor during the day. Aunt Yi saw it and is furious right now! The Yi family is bustling with activity right now. If my guess is correct, Aunt Zhang should be calling you right now."

He didn't care whether the Yi family was making trouble or not. He looked much more relaxed than before, and said lazily, "You still occupy my line knowing that?"

Sun Yao laughed and said cheerfully, "I want to hear some gossip. What happened between you and An Lin? I kissed you on your wedding day—"

"Attempted." Zhao Yan corrected lightly.

"Tsk!" Sun Yao said nonchalantly, "Just tell me about it. I'm so curious and can't wait for you to come over."

"Want to know?" Zhao Yan smiled slightly when he heard Sun Yao's eager affirmation. "I want to know too. Go check it out and send me a copy when you're done."

Sun Yao only realized something was wrong after he agreed. "I'm checking you? What the hell is wrong with you?" After a while, thinking about the scene where Jiang Siyue was dragged away by the kid from the Xu family, Sun Yao realized, "I'm checking for Jiang Siyue to see."

"Yeah." Zhao Yan admitted lightly, which made Sun Yao at a loss. He couldn't believe that the rebellious Zhao Yan would actually bow down to his wife.

Sun Yao: "No way, you're taking it so seriously? It's completely fabricated, just explain it in a few words and it's over."

Zhao Yan didn't explain much and said, "Send me a copy of the Yi family's video as well."

Sun Yao: “…Okay.”

As soon as the phone was hung up, Zhang Ying called again. The content of the call was nothing new. It just mentioned that Jiang Siyue went to the old house to look for someone, which made Zhao Yan ask a few more questions.

The person in the car was sleeping soundly. Zhao Yan stared at her, and a doting smile unconsciously appeared on the corner of his mouth. No wonder she was so sleepy that she couldn't wake up. It turned out that she had been busy all night.

While he was in a daze, Jiang Siyue had already shown signs of waking up. Zhao Yan strode into the car and as soon as he sat in the passenger seat, he met her confused eyes.

"Just arrived." Zhao Yan explained before her, "I'll go out later."

Jiang Siyue was not fully awake yet. She sat up straight and her coat slipped off and was immediately taken away by Zhao Yan. His scent disappeared in an instant, and she felt empty in her heart.

"Oh." Jiang Siyue pushed open the car door and got out. She had just woken up and her steps were still a little unsteady. The ground felt as soft as cotton. A forearm stretched out in her sight. Jiang Siyue pursed her lips and walked away silently. "We are both getting divorced. It is better to keep our distance."

A light laugh came from behind, and it landed in my heart, and I was inexplicably slow to react. Thinking of how calm he was, I felt a little dissatisfied for no reason.

Zhao Yan stepped forward, ignoring her struggles, held her hand, and whispered, "Divorce was your idea, I didn't agree."

"You have to agree even if you don't want to!" Jiang Siyue suddenly got angry and said, "At worst, I'll sue you!"

"I won't agree even if you sue me." Zhao Yan's expression remained unchanged. He held her hand tightly, and his calm tone hinted at a scoundrel. "No matter what, I won't agree. I'll tear up the marriage certificate later."

Jiang Siyue stopped, her almond-shaped eyes widening. She couldn't believe that Zhao Yan could actually say such a thing, and questioned, "Didn't you just say that you know your limits? How can you act so shamelessly even if you know your limits?"

Zhao Yan shrugged, his expression showing a rare bit of the frivolousness of a young man from the capital. He said, "You've already brought up the divorce, and you won't let me act like a rogue?"

Jiang Siyue didn't recover from her shock.

As if to prove his point, "tear up the divorce certificate," Zhao Yan turned and rushed into the house. Jiang Siyue was stunned for two seconds before she reacted and chased after him, shouting, "Zhao Yan, are you crazy?!"

The two men entered the house one after the other. The house was pitch black. As Jiang Siyue ran in, her wrist was grabbed. Zhao Yan used a little force and pushed her against the door.

The door slammed shut with a loud noise, and the room was filled with darkness. Only Zhao Yan's eyes revealed a dark light as warm as a star blade.

Zhao Yan leaned closer, and when she dodged, she heard a bitter laugh above her head, followed by a whisper in her ear, and a hot breath sprayed on her neck, which was unavoidable.

"I could weave a false sweet dream, telling how I looked forward to meeting you before I even knew you, and how ecstatic I was about that blind date... to increase your chances of choosing me now." Zhao Yan sighed softly, his tone pausing as he lowered his gaze to look at hers, his eyes filled with seriousness. After a moment, he chuckled to himself, "But that would be too despicable."

He was too frank, and the words he said were like small raindrops, falling on her heart one by one, making her feel numb and tingling, and her heart felt uncontrollably sour.

Perhaps, she should be more honest now and speak out her true thoughts. What she really cares about is his and An Lin's past, but those words are so difficult to say, so when the words come to her lips, they become -

"I wouldn't believe you even if you said that."

"Yeah." Zhao Yan pursed his lips and smiled, with undisguised admiration in his eyes, "I know."

Jiang Siyue's heart trembled, and she lowered her head and remained silent.

"When I first learned about this ridiculous blind date, I did refuse it. But after seeing the video, I changed my mind and came back for the date. It's not because you look like Anlin, but because you look like me."

Jiang Siyue, who was restrained by him, had been struggling. After hearing these words, she suddenly loosened her strength, raised her eyes to look at his profile, and her eyes were ambiguous.

"To be precise, it's like myself when I had a falling out with my family." Zhao Yan smiled faintly, vaguely recalling the past. "The well-fed and well-clothed young man suddenly became a penniless dishwasher. The world showed its most hideous side to me. When I received the meager salary at the end of the work, my eyes were probably the same as yours at that time: embarrassed, helpless, and a bit of struggling stubbornness..."

He paused, not sure if he was thinking about what to say next or trying to calm the waves of memories.

"That's why I married you. I didn't want you to be like me, struggling for money. You're short of money, and I happen to be rich."

Jiang Siyue was a little at a loss, not knowing how to react. Her heart ached, but she was too shy to express it. She only said, "It sounds simple, like a bank loan."

Zhao Yan chuckled, seemingly amused by the metaphor. "All complex relationships begin with a simple beginning."

Jiang Siyue stopped talking.

Zhao Yan: "What did An Lin say about that ring?"
