Chapter 7: Change of Instructor
◎Teacher, Caicai, Lao Lao◎
It had been snowing heavily since last night and had been falling continuously. In the morning, during the metrology class, Jiang Siyue chose a seat by the window. She listened to the lecture, which she half understood, while watching the heavy snow falling.
A thick layer of snow had accumulated downstairs. Occasionally, groups of three or four people would walk by, then quickly disappear... After a few seconds of distraction, the things on the projection were beyond the human realm.
Jiang Siyue wailed silently, hastily focusing her attention on the class. Econometrics had always been her weak point, and she was overwhelmed by all the hypotheses and confidence intervals. But when the bell rang, she felt like a new person.
"Let's go to the cafeteria together?" He Min, her dining companion, pushed her.
Jiang Siyue seemed to have her soul drained out, and she shook her head mechanically, "You go first, there are too many people now, I don't want to squeeze."
He Min patted her shoulder and left with her bag.
After most people had left the classroom, Jiang Siyue sighed heavily, opened the thick measurement book, and began to review. At around 2:30, the courier called, and she answered it and went downstairs.
The snow had stopped, and everything was covered with a thin layer of white.
After opening the express, I found that it was the journal I had booked. I thought I could get it this time, so I booked it in advance, but it turned out to be a waste of time.
Not in the mood to eat, Jiang Siyue bought some bread from the school supermarket and ate while contacting her counselor, Yuan Ke. Yuan Ke's reaction was similar to Zhang Min'an's. Yuan Ke ignored a single word while Zhang Min'an typed his statement, but after sending the hospital records, he replied faster than anyone else.
Yuan Ke: Come to the administration building to see me.
After finishing her bread in a few bites, Jiang Siyue rushed to the administrative building. While in the elevator, she sent a message to Zhao Yan.
[Jiang Siyue: The instructor asked me to go to the office.]
The elevator door opened and Jiang Siyue got out, still feeling nervous. Through the glass window, she saw Li Shasha already inside and the two of them were already chatting.
She lowered her head. Zhao Yan had not replied yet. Jiang Siyue decided to wait a little longer. She opened the express and scanned the lines quickly. Suddenly, she saw a familiar title.
Ignoring the pain in her hand, she quickly turned to that page and quickly browsed a few lines. Jiang Siyue's heart grew heavier and heavier. This article was 98% similar to her own, except for the name, everything else was the same.
"Zhang Yaqing." Jiang Siyue read out the first part of the article softly and sent a message to Zhang Min'an. The other party did not reply, so she called him. The call was picked up when she was about to hang up.
"Why are you calling at this time?" Zhang Min'an was furious.
Jiang Siyue tried her best to suppress her emotions and asked, "Teacher Zhang, is it true that my paper was not published?"
"Yes." Zhang Min'an's tone became even worse. "Didn't I tell you?"
"Teacher!" Jiang Siyue interrupted him, tears welling up in her eyes but refusing to fall. "I saw my article on Beihe."
"Oh, you are talking about that part. There is indeed a part written by you. I gave you three parts. I have a manuscript to write here. I will send it to you later. It should be submitted tomorrow." Zhang Min'an hung up the phone without saying anything. Jiang Siyue took a deep breath. Her heart seemed to be blocked, making her breathless.
A paper may have one author, two authors, three authors, and so on, but only the first author is useful, and the third author is considered a marginal person by default!
Zhang Yaqing is Zhang Min'an's eldest daughter. During group meetings, Zhang Min'an often brags about her to belittle Jiang Siyue and others.
"Ha!" Jiang Siyue sneered and said to herself disdainfully, "People from top universities also want to steal my thesis."
"Classmate." A girl stopped in front of her and said, "Teacher Yuan wants you to come in."
Jiang Siyue sniffed, wiped her face roughly, walked into the office, and after saying hello, Jiang Siyue found a stool to sit down. Her head was still buzzing and she couldn't think.
"Since we're here, let's talk." Yuan Ke looked at the two of them with a sullen expression, then said to Li Shasha, "Why did you pinch her hand for no reason?"
"I didn't pinch her. Who knows how she did it and blamed it on me."
Li Shasha's answer was completely within Jiang Siyue's expectations. Jiang Siyue looked sarcastic and said nothing.
Yuan Ke also knew Li Shasha's personality, so he turned to Jiang Siyue and asked, "Did you spend a lot of money?"
Jiang Siyue didn't know that Zhao Yan paid all the money yesterday, and now she didn't have the heart to count them. She felt cold all over and asked woodenly, "What will happen if it's not much?"
They were both very troublesome. Yuan Ke sighed impatiently and said, "If there weren't many, it would be fine. There's no surveillance in the dormitory. You keep talking to me, who should I believe?"
"Who do you mean to believe?" Li Shasha shouted in dissatisfaction, "You say it was me, then show me the evidence! Whoever questions it has to provide the evidence, don't you know?!"
Jiang Siyue stared at her constantly opening and closing mouth, her heart remarkably calm. After a moment, she spoke word by word, "Li Shasha, you are really very insightful. Do you know that?"
"Teacher!" Li Shasha suddenly screamed, pointing at Jiang Siyue and started crying, "Teacher, look! In front of you, she..."
The scene before her eyes suddenly became blurry, and the sound gradually drifted away. Jiang Siyue suddenly recalled some old memories.
Jiang Lingling was extremely rebellious during her adolescence, so her parents brought her to the city, under the pretext of personally disciplining her. Little Jiang Siyue continued to live in the countryside with her grandparents.
Zhou Hong persuaded her like this:
"Sister is rebellious, there's nothing we can do about it. No matter what, she can make a big fuss. Mom knows you're a good kid."
Later, when her family's financial situation improved, she was also taken to the city. Although she was the younger one, Zhou Hong always said to her, "Your sister is unreasonable. Give in to her. Suffering a loss is a blessing..."
She'd heard enough of these words, and she'd had enough of them. Why did she have to be the one to give in? Today, she wouldn't give in!
Her left hand rubbed and slowly lifted up, but was quickly grabbed. Her vision darkened. A familiar smell came, and she looked at Zhao Yan's profile with a confused look.
"Teacher Yuan, no one would pinch their wrist for no reason." Zhao Yan glanced at Li Shasha and said coldly, "With such a big commotion, other students should know about it. Why not ask them?"
"What are you asking?" Li Shasha complained, "I wasn't even in the dorm the night before last!"
Jiang Siyue wanted to break free from Zhao Yan and stand out to argue, but he held her hand tightly.
"The day before yesterday." Zhao Yan smiled faintly and asked calmly, "How do you know it was the day before yesterday?"
The situation turned around in an instant. No matter how Li Shasha tried to argue, it was useless. The smugness of the past was no longer on her pale face. Jiang Siyue felt happy.
"Teacher Yuan, according to the school rules of Hua University, there must be a punishment." Zhao Yan's tone was still calm, even like he was negotiating, but Yuan Ke knew that the other party was definitely using courtesy before force, and a smiling tiger is the most difficult to deal with.
These were all matters between students. If there was a real punishment, it would mean ruining someone's future. As a teacher, she would try to protect him. She smiled and said, "Sir, who are you?"
Jiang Siyue's heart tightened. Instinctively, she didn't want others to know their relationship, so she said vaguely, "He is my family."
Zhao Yan had no objection to her statement. Just then, the phone rang and Jiang Siyue pulled his hand and led him out. Zhao Yan knew what she meant and found an excuse to leave the office.
After he left, the invisible feeling of oppression disappeared. Yuan Ke breathed a sigh of relief and continued to work on Jiang Siyue's ideological work.
"Teacher, I won't reconcile." Jiang Siyue straightened her back and glanced at the pale-faced Li Shasha with a smile on her lips. "You're already 24, so don't use the excuse of being a child."
Yuan Ke sighed irritably. Jiang Siyue looked so soft and delicate, but why was she so difficult to talk to? He waved his hand impatiently, "You guys go, wait for the notice."
Li Shasha glared at Jiang Siyue and ran out crying. Jiang Siyue stood there without moving. Yuan Ke was so annoyed that he asked, "What else do you want?"
"What is the procedure for changing instructors in the academy?"
…
After leaving the office, Zhao Yan stood at the elevator door, having finished his call, her canvas bag slung over her arm. Jiang Siyue smiled and walked over to him. The crimson numbers slowly jumped, and the two of them were reflected in the elevator door. Zhao Yan tilted his head to one side, his gaze seemingly fixed on himself.
Jiang Siyue pursed her lips and said, "I thought you weren't coming."
Zhao Yan held up his hand to block the elevator door, and the two of them went in one after the other. "It took a while to find the office of the School of Economics."
Jiang Siyue opened her lips slightly, then she remembered that she forgot to tell Zhao Yan the location of the administrative building and office. She tilted her head back and smiled embarrassedly, "I forgot to tell you."
He was so angry at Zhang Min'an that he lost his mind.
She raised her head, pursed her lips, and looked at him with her round almond-shaped eyes. Zhao Yan's eyes flickered several times and he said, "I guessed it."
The elevator stopped on the first floor. There were crowds of people standing outside. Jiang Siyue took a deep breath and leaned slightly to Zhao Yan to protect her injured hand.
Zhao Yan put his arm around her waist. Jiang Siyue's body stiffened, and then she grabbed the corner of his clothes, and the two of them went out against the flow of people.
After leaving the administration building, Jiang Siyue let go of his shirt, and Zhao Yan then let go of her waist, put his hands in his pockets, and asked, "Do you have classes this afternoon?"
Jiang Siyue shook her head. According to the group's assignment, it was her responsibility to pick up Zhang Min'an's child today, but she had already sent out the information about the change of tutors. Whoever wanted to pick up the child could do so; she couldn't go again.
"My parents asked us to go home for dinner tonight. Do you want to go?"
Jiang Siyue felt that his question was a bit redundant. Zhang Ying invited her to dinner, would she dare to say no? Moreover, after getting the marriage certificate for so long, she hadn't shown up yet. In the end, it was Zhang Ying and the others who were accommodating her.
"good."
When moving, Li Shasha was crying loudly in the dormitory. Jiang Siyue pretended not to hear and packed her things. She didn't have much stuff, just some clothes to take away, and the rest had to be thrown away.
The dorm manager helped her carry the suitcase downstairs. Zhao Yan took it and thanked her. The two of them walked out slowly, without saying a word. Their feet made a monotonous rustling sound in the snow. Jiang Siyue thought it would be best to say something. After all, it was she who had suggested cultivating their relationship yesterday.
After racking her brains for a long time, she asked, "How did you find the administration building? Did you ask for directions?"
Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the University of Finance and Economics were collaborating on some projects, so Zhao Yan would occasionally come over. However, Jiang Siyue had always believed that he was just an employee, so he decided to keep it a secret for a while longer, using another excuse: "I graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and I have a general impression of the administrative building."
"You actually graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology!" Jiang Siyue was surprised and asked expectantly, "What's your major? Economics, isn't it?"
Zhao Yan thought for a while and said, "I majored in mathematics in college."
"Amazing!" Jiang Siyue offered heartfelt praise. Anyone who'd studied math knew that majoring in mathematics wasn't something everyone could study. She'd done well in math on the college entrance exam, but she'd struggled with economics, let alone professional math.
"I studied linear algebra in college, and it was such a painful subject. In the end, it was only thanks to my wisdom and hard work that I managed to survive."
Zhao Yan: "Hmm?"
"Study with wisdom, and—" Jiang Siyue trotted two steps, stopped in front of him, and said, "Try hard to find a linear algebra teacher."
Zhao Yan looked at her quietly, a faint smile on his lips, and asked with interest: "How did you ask for it?"
Jiang Siyue walked backwards, looking quite proud: "Post in the class group: Teacher, Cai Cai, Lao Lao."
