Chapter 170 Taking the Blame

Little Days Space Command Center.

Suddenly, the real-time monitoring data on the command center screen flickered, and then all the data displayed on it was cleared.

"What happened?"

Kenjiro's heart tightened, and he quickly asked.

The staff below frantically operated the system, and soon after, one staff member stood up and reported, "Director, we have lost contact with the Pupil Satellite."

"Then what are we waiting for? Let's find out the cause right away."

Kenichiro shouted at the staff, then turned to Ichiro Oda with an embarrassed smile and said, "There might be a problem with the satellite. We are investigating it. Please wait a moment."

"Is it related to China's space fleet?" Oda Ichiro asked, a thought suddenly crossing his mind.

According to the predicted timeline, the satellite should now be passing by the Chinese fleet.

"Lieutenant General, the situation is unclear, and we cannot make a judgment. We are currently gathering data from nearby satellites and ground observation stations to investigate," Kenjiro Miguchi said hurriedly.

“Mr. Sankou, we can’t take any chances. The fact that the Hitomi Satellite has lost contact at this time is most likely related to the Chinese fleet.”

Oda Ichiro frowned and pondered for a moment before continuing, "In that case, you should immediately request assistance from the United States. They should also have satellites monitoring the Chinese fleet throughout the entire process."

He was already quite certain that it was the Chinese fleet that was behind this; otherwise, why would something like this happen now of all times?

"Yes, Lord Oda, I will request the assistance of the US immediately. Please wait a moment."

Upon hearing Ichiro Oda's words, Kenjiro Miguchi began to have doubts. He quickly walked to a seat, picked up the hotline, and personally dialed the number for the U.S. military.

Three minutes later.

Kenjiro Mikoto hung up the phone and returned to Ichiro Oda's side with a worried look on his face. He said in a mournful tone, "General, according to the US's monitoring satellites, our satellites were directly destroyed by China's space fleet!"

"This is a huge loss to our empire's most advanced satellite. Mr. Oda, you must explain this to the Emperor. Otherwise, I can't bear the consequences if he blames me."

Upon hearing this, Oda Ichiro's face also darkened, and he confirmed, "Is it confirmed that it was destroyed by the Chinese space fleet?"

Kenjiro Mikoto said with a wry smile, "I can't confirm it, but the US's surveillance satellites were tracking the Chinese fleet the whole time and happened to capture this scene."

"A bright light was emitted from the spacecraft led by China, and then our satellite was torn to pieces. They speculate that this was the result of being hit by a high-energy particle weapon."

"Damn it, China is going too far! This violates the principle of peaceful use of outer space. We're going to file a complaint with the United Nations."

Oda Ichiro gritted his teeth, his face filled with righteous indignation.

Then, his eyes darted around and he said, "Mr. Sankou, you should immediately issue a protest to China in the name of the Imperial Space Agency, and at the same time, request the assistance of the United States to protest to them together."

"This... Oda-kun, the matter to explain to the Emperor..."

"Don't worry, Mr. Sanguchi. We're all working for the Great Day Empire. Even if the Emperor finds out, he won't blame us."

Oda Ichiro offered his perfunctory words of comfort, then glanced at his watch and said, "Mr. Yamaguchi, I have an important military meeting to attend, so I'll take my leave now. Let me know as soon as the protest has a result, and I'll explain to the Emperor."

After saying that, he turned and left in a hurry.

"Please, Mr. Oda."

Kenjiro called out anxiously from behind, then returned to his office, where he began to ponder how to protest to China with a worried expression.

It would be best to shift all the blame for the provocation onto China, so that even if the higher-ups blame him, he won't bear the main responsibility!

However, before he could figure out how to protest to China, his secretary pushed open the door and handed him a bill, saying, "Director, this is a space debris cleanup bill that Mousse Technology just sent over. Please take a look."

Kenjiro took the bill and casually remarked, "Didn't we just pay this fee? Why is there another one?"

The secretary hesitated for a moment, then said, "They said this is newly generated garbage, not included in the annual plan, and is considered overtime."

Kenjiro's heart skipped a beat. He picked up the bill and looked at it carefully. It detailed the source of the extra space debris, which was their destroyed Hitomi satellite!

Moreover, the fees charged are almost equivalent to a year's worth of cleaning fees, and payment is due within three days, otherwise a 10% penalty will be charged for each day that is overdue!

Kenjiro's face grew increasingly grim as he looked up. When he finally looked up, his expression had hardened, and he roared at his secretary, "The Chinese are really going too far! Not only did they destroy our satellite, but they also want to charge us for cleaning up the debris!"

The secretary shrank back and asked cautiously, "Director, should we pay this expense or not?"

Kenichi's face stiffened for a moment, and he opened his mouth, about to object.

But then he suddenly remembered the possible consequences of not paying, consequences that a mere department head like him could not bear!

He slumped back in his chair, waved his hand, and said with a helpless expression, "Pay!"

No sooner had he finished speaking than a brilliant idea flashed into his mind, and he quickly added, "Wait a minute, let me think about it."

Payment is definitely due. If he dares not to pay, then these satellite fragments will hang directly over their territory, and there's even a possibility that they will crash into their land.

Those politicians will definitely make him take all the blame!

However, any accident can happen when a satellite is flying in space. If he insists that something went wrong, who can verify that?

As for the footage captured by the US, it's just speculation; there's no direct evidence. All they have to do is deny it!

Kenjiro Mitsuoka thought it over and found it increasingly feasible. He quickly sat up straight, no longer looking dejected, and said to his secretary, who was looking at him expectantly, "Immediately sign a labor contract with Mousse Technology, changing this fee from a space debris cleanup fee to a labor fee. Sign it under the name of Mousse Technology assisting in the search for the missing satellite, understand?"

The secretary was taken aback for a moment, then understood what he meant, and said with a flattering smile, "Director, you are really amazing. In this way, our space agency is no longer responsible. I will take care of it right away."

Kenichi nodded with a smug look on his face, secretly admiring his own quick wit.

He waved his hand, signaling his secretary to leave, then, remembering something, his face darkened, and he said, "Tell everyone outside to keep their mouths shut. If I hear any bad rumors, I'll deal with them!"

"Yes, Director, I'll go and instruct them right away!" The secretary nodded and bowed, then turned and left the office.

Soon after, NASA quietly released a message to the public.

"Due to unknown reasons, the Tong satellite launched by our country has deviated from its intended orbit and has lost contact with the ground. We have commissioned Mousse Technology Company to assist in the search for the missing satellite."

As for this news, whether others believe it or not is irrelevant; it's enough that we, the ordinary folks, believe it!
