Chapter 92 A Show of Force

Seven days later.

Kyoto International Airport.

As U.S. Commerce Secretary Retmundo stepped out of the plane, a hint of disappointment flashed across his face as he looked at the meager welcoming ceremony below.

Although she was mentally prepared, the fact that only a handful of people from China were there to pick her up still left her deeply disappointed.

This also represents the attitude of the Chinese government.

She recalled the task the President had given her before her trip—to have China abandon its high-tech research and development and to have China buy American Treasury bonds.

She couldn't help but think to herself, "Those Wall Street conglomerates are really out of their minds. They want it all but don't mention lifting the sanctions. Do they think everyone else is a sucker?"

However, these politicians are just puppets. Since the financial backer has spoken, there's nothing she can do even if she's unwilling.

With a smile on his face, Retmondo went to greet the director who had come to pick him up.

The two exchanged pleasantries at the airport for less than two minutes before getting into a private car and returning to their hotel.

It was evening.

Retmondo had just finished her meeting with the Chinese Minister of Commerce and returned to her hotel. Thinking about the outcome of the meeting, she sighed.

None of the things the president asked for were agreed upon, but fortunately it was only a preliminary meeting, and both sides agreed to continue the talks.

This outcome was expected. She silently considered how to pressure the Chinese officials in the subsequent talks and get them to agree to her conditions.

"No, should I make some concessions and agree to let China lift sanctions on one or two items?" she thought to herself, as she poured herself a cup of coffee and was about to put it to her lips.

"Knock knock knock!"

There was a rapid knocking at the front door.

Retmondo frowned, immediately displeased with her assistant's behavior, but she still put down her coffee, tidied her makeup, and said in a deep voice, "Come in."

The assistant hurriedly pushed open the door and entered, his face showing panic and shock.

"Mr. Mitter, what's wrong? Why are you so flustered?" Retmondo had a bad feeling and asked quickly with a frown.

"Minister, something big has happened! Huawei has released a new mobile phone!" Assistant Mite hurriedly reported to her side.

"Huawei Company? What's the big deal about them releasing a new phone? It's not like four years ago. They can only do small-scale things now," Retmondo said dismissively.

“But, but the new Huawei phone is said to use a new high-end chip and has 5G capabilities,” Mite said hurriedly.

"Impossible. We've sanctioned Huawei. Who would dare sell them high-end chips?"

Retmondo scoffed, "Chinese tech companies are all talk and no action. Don't be fooled by them."

"Your Excellency, you should see for yourself. This time it doesn't seem fake."

Mite smiled wryly, opened his tablet, opened the news, and handed it to Retmondo.

Above, the front page headlines were all about the release of Huawei's new mobile phone, and even China's most authoritative media were reporting on it.

Retmondo's fingers kept swiping across the tablet, his expression growing increasingly shocked.

After a long silence, she put down the tablet, her expression hardening, and gritted her teeth, saying, "Damn Huawei, damn the Chinese government! Of all times to release this, they had to choose today! They're deliberately trying to intimidate me!"

"So what should we do? Should we continue this visit?" Mitt asked.

After frowning and considering for a long time, Retmondo said, "Continue the visit according to the original schedule and agenda."

“If the phone released by Kehuawei is real, then our chip blockade against China has effectively become ineffective. Is there any point in sticking to the original agenda?” Mite asked worriedly.

“Now that China has broken through the chip blockade, those guys on Wall Street should be worried. We just need to finish what we need to do. Oh, and this news needs to be reported to the White House in a timely manner. The rest is up to them,” Retmondo said with a smile, his expression becoming more relaxed.

"Understood, I'll take care of it right away." Mite nodded and then left the room.

Seeing the door close, Redmondo's eyes deepened, and a cold smile appeared on his lips.

"You insisted on leaving me with this mess from your visit to China, and you even made such unreliable demands. Now, let's see how you deal with it!"

......

That evening, the news of Huawei's new phone release caused a huge stir, dominating the front pages of major media outlets both domestically and internationally.

Some Western media outlets even used sour headlines: Huawei quietly released a smartphone, catching China's technology industry completely off guard.

The title made netizens laugh immediately, and they left comments below.

"This is hilarious! The Chinese tech industry was completely unprepared, but I'm afraid it was you who were completely unprepared, hahaha!"

"Warwick is amazing! This is the best gift from the US Commerce Secretary's visit and the best example of a company that has been unjustly sanctioned!"

"We should sell Huawei 5G phones in front of the US Secretary of Commerce!"

"Huawei has spent four years proving one thing—far ahead of the competition."

"Everyone has misunderstood. This 5G is not the same as that 5G. What we are developing is not the internationally popular 5G, but an improvement on 4G. It can be called 4G+. Please rest assured, America, we are still far behind America's level of technology."

When South Korea saw the news, they were completely devastated!

"Did China suddenly acquire alien technology? Why hasn't that stopped them from producing high-end chips?"

"The US mobilized the entire world to sanction Warwick, yet they still managed to break through. How is that possible?"

"Is the entire world unable to compete with Warwick? How did they manage to achieve this breakthrough? It's utterly unbelievable!"

"We're doomed! Once they achieve a breakthrough, our chip industry will be utterly destroyed!"

"Please, America, keep increasing sanctions! If we let them continue to develop like this, no one can stop them. What can we do?"

The elephant country feels like it's back in the game, even though it has virtually no chip industry.

"Our elephant nation is looking forward to its own 5G chips, because we are already producing 5G fruits and new Samsung phones."

"Has the US united the whole world? We, the elephant nation, haven't even participated in the sanctions! When we join, China will surely be utterly defeated!"

"We need to start cooperating with China immediately and encourage their technology companies to set up factories in our country. I think our huge market is also something they need!"

"This is just a mobile phone. Believe me, our country will soon have the world's best mobile phone brands and car brands. The future belongs to us, Elephant!"

Of course, netizens from other countries couldn't stand the arrogance of the elephant nation either.

"Brother, assembly and design are two different things, and the difficulty is completely different."

"Haha, please forgive my unkind laughter. I heard you guys used cow dung to make chips before. I hope you succeeded."
