Chapter 40 No Return
After buying the seafood, Ling Ran saw a lot of fresh vegetables and bought quite a lot of those as well.
Fresh vegetables are a luxury. After all, in the post-apocalyptic world, few people are willing to farm. Ordinary people with even a little ambition are more willing to go out and train to kill zombies, earn crystal cores, and gain the means to survive in the post-apocalyptic world.
Of course, these are all nice excuses. The reality is that no matter how much an ordinary person tries to cultivate, they can't beat a wood-type ability user.
These people could accelerate plant growth very quickly, driving down the costs for ordinary people, and then these wood-type ability users monopolized the vegetable and fruit market.
The prices of vegetables and fruits are mostly determined by them.
After all, they are the suppliers.
These vegetable vendors are mostly middlemen who buy their produce from wood-type ability users and then resell it, making a profit from the price difference.
Pei Xiu and Zhou Hang, being two penniless individuals, naturally couldn't afford to buy vegetables. If they wanted vegetables, they would have to spend crystal cores to buy seeds and grow them themselves.
It's difficult to sell the vegetables we grow, but it's enough to barely feed ourselves.
At this moment, both of them were carrying things that Ling Ran had bought while wandering around, treating the crystal cores as if they were free, seemingly unaware of the greedy eyes lurking in the shadows.
"Sister, let's go quickly."
Fighting is not allowed in the base, but it's impossible to completely stop it. Just like the laws established before the apocalypse, many people still knowingly break them.
Ling Ran had naturally sensed the ill-intentioned glances from some people, but she didn't care at all: "What's there to be afraid of? If they dare to come, we'll make sure they don't leave alive."
Zhou Hang immediately flattered her: "Sister is so domineering."
"What's so domineering about her?" Pei Xiu frowned. "Although my sister's flying ability makes her immune to zombies, human abilities can still attack her."
Ling Ran glanced at the things in their hands and saw that there was practically no room left to carry them. She then mercifully said, "Go call a car and let's go back."
"OK."
Pei Xiu felt as if he had been granted a pardon and immediately hailed a four-wheeled vehicle. The three of them carried their belongings and got into the vehicle. Ling Ran gave them the address, and the vehicle started moving.
Not long after, a car quickly followed.
Pei Xiu and Zhou Hang were still lamenting about Ling Ran's place: "This is a good place, but it's a bit close to the battlefield. If the base can't hold out one day, the first place to suffer will be where my sister lives."
"Do you two still have anything in your room? If so, go and get it while you're at it. You can stay at my place from now on."
Ling Ran sat in the passenger seat and glanced at the two of them through the rearview mirror.
Her main concern was to bring Pei Xiu along, as the only person the original owner couldn't let go of in this world was her younger brother.
Those who cultivate immortality believe in cause and effect.
Having inadvertently taken over her body and wanting to have some fun here, she naturally deserves some compensation. Of course, besides taking care of Pei Xiu, she herself will also have a wonderful afterlife.
"There are also some clothes."
As for supplies, there were none.
They were already at their wits' end, otherwise they wouldn't have come out to take on the mission.
Actually, the advantage of the Southern Province base over other bases is that Southern Province has no shortage of food. This "no shortage" refers to seafood.
This has resulted in a lot of lazybones at the Southern Province base.
As long as they don't starve, they'll eat seafood like crazy. Going out on adventures is out of the question; just surviving is already a good outcome.
Ling Ran didn't have any men's clothing, so she had the driver stop by Pei Xiu and Zhou Hang's place.
The two lived in a decent place, in an old residential complex. The complex was fairly well-preserved, with buildings that looked no more than ten years old.
