Chapter 299 Echoes

As the mysterious young man's words echoed in everyone's ears, an eerie silence fell over the scene. All eyes were fixed on the suddenly appearing figure, their hearts filled with countless questions and wariness.

Max's gaze hardened: "Who are you? How do you know so much about us? Are there more secrets behind this?"

The young man slowly raised his hand and chuckled softly. "My name is not important. What is important is that I can now reveal a part of the truth to you. In fact, all of this is just a small part of a larger scheme." His voice was deep and magnetic, echoing in the air for a long time.

Arya frowned slightly, trying to find even the slightest clue in the stranger's eyes. "If it's really as complicated as you say, then whose side are you on?" she asked, looking directly into his eyes.

The captain of the guard stepped forward, his tone carrying an undeniable force. "Whatever your purpose, please believe me: as long as it is for the benefit and peace of the people of this land, we will spare no effort to stop the evil forces from running rampant."

Upon hearing this, murmurs of agreement rang out from the surrounding crowd:

"That's right! With these heroes around, we have nothing to fear!"

"No matter what happens, I believe they will protect us!"

......

The mysterious man smiled slightly, but remained unmoved. "Oh? Commendable courage, General. But I hope you can face the impending reality with equal courage... In fact, this battle is only the beginning."

"What?" Arya exclaimed in astonishment. "You mean..."

“That’s right,” the other person interrupted her, “the real enemy is far more powerful and cunning than you imagine. And it has already infiltrated every corner…” He then gave a meaningful look at everyone present.

The villagers began to whisper among themselves:

"Is what he said true? Or is there an even greater threat waiting for us?"

"No way... After going through so much suffering, is it still not over...?"

...

Just as everyone was thrown into chaos, a group of fully armed knights suddenly appeared on the distant horizon. The leader held aloft a banner embroidered with strange totems and advanced rapidly toward them.

Seeing this, Arya immediately ordered, "Everyone prepare for battle! Whatever their intentions, we must defend our homeland from harm!"

The soldiers quickly reorganized and entered a state of combat readiness, and the entire village seemed to be instantly enveloped in a tense atmosphere.

At that very moment, on the other side of the battlefield, several villagers on patrol were staring in disbelief at the scene before them:

"My God, another huge enemy army has arrived? Will we be able to get through this time?" one of them said worriedly.

The older one seemed relatively calmer. "Don't be afraid, young man. Remember what those generals just said—unity is strength. As long as we all work together, we can overcome even the most difficult challenges."

At the same time, the young man who claimed to know everything behind the scenes spoke up again:

“It seems it’s time to reveal part of the answer,” he said, glancing in the direction where the newcomer had appeared with a hint of disdain. “These guys are just a few insignificant pawns on the chessboard.”

"A little chess piece?" Arya asked, puzzled, but she didn't have time to delve into what the other person meant. "Our most important task right now is to resolve the immediate crisis!"

As a horn blared through the sky, the two teams finally began their final battle... But at this critical moment, the enigmatic man vanished without a trace, leaving behind only one unforgettable sentence:

"Remember my words, the real game has only just begun..."

As the bugle calls echoed through the air, the atmosphere on the battlefield grew incredibly tense. Villagers grabbed their weapons, and soldiers formed tight battle formations, ready to meet the approaching enemy. On the distant horizon, a column of knights drew near with astonishing speed, their banners fluttering in the wind, foreshadowing the impending battle.

Arya mounted a white warhorse, her gaze resolute as she looked ahead. "Don't panic, everyone. We've fought countless battles, and we've survived every single one," her voice brimming with determination and strength. "This time will be no exception!"

The captain of the guard raised his sword high and led his soldiers in a charge. "For our homeland! For peace!" His shouts inspired everyone.

Just then, a young villager stood in the crowd, gripping his rough spear tightly, his eyes filled with unease and worry. "I hope those knights are really just pawns... otherwise, what are we going to do?" he muttered to himself, but was quickly drowned out by the high-spirited cheers around him.

On the other side, the mysterious young man stood quietly atop an inconspicuous hill, overlooking the entire battlefield. "The game has begun," he said, a slight smile playing on his lips, a sly glint in his eyes.

As the enemy drew near, the first wave of attack finally arrived. The knights surged forward like a tidal wave, their blades gleaming coldly in the sunlight. However, led by Arya and the captain of the guard, the villagers did not retreat an inch. Instead, they fought back fiercely, and the battlefield was filled with the glint of swords and the deafening cries of battle.

Just as the two sides were locked in a fierce battle, a squad of elite soldiers suddenly appeared from the flank. They were volunteers from a nearby town who had rushed to the battlefield after receiving the distress signal. This unexpected reinforcement instantly changed the course of the battle.

"Looks like we've got some help!" an old farmer said breathlessly, his excitement barely concealed despite being covered in sweat and dust.

"Haha, this is in the bag!" a young soldier beside him responded, his eyes gleaming with hope. "We must win!"

Meanwhile, amidst the chaotic crowd, a little girl was tightly protected behind her mother, looking around curiously. "Mommy, are they all heroes?" the little girl asked innocently.

“Yes, my darling. All these people you see are the bravest and kindest people in this land,” the mother replied gently, her eyes filled with hopeful anticipation for the future.

At that moment, the man who claimed to know the inside story reappeared not far away, seemingly observing something. "It seems the plan is progressing smoothly," he said to a mysterious cloaked follower beside him. "Next, we just need to wait for the real 'protagonist' to make his appearance."

"You mean...?" the attendant asked hesitantly.

“That’s right, the most important figure in the legend—he’s coming back soon.” After saying this, the two disappeared into the night once again.

Meanwhile, as the battle neared its end, Arya was surprised to find a group of highly skilled individuals suddenly emerging from the enemy ranks. Their movements were agile and swift, quickly turning the tide of the battle. "What's going on? How could such powerful people suddenly appear? Could that statement... really be hinting at the involvement of a stronger force?" While pondering this, she quickly directed her troops to adjust their defensive lines, striving to minimize losses and find opportunities for a counterattack.

Just then, the captain of the guard suddenly pointed into the distance and shouted, "Look over there! It looks like someone's coming!" Several figures slowly emerged from the darkness, and the leader was none other than their long-lost old friend...

"Is it really him?! But how could he possibly appear at this time..."

To be continued.
