Chapter 117 The End

“We must set off immediately; every moment of delay could mean the sacrifice of more innocent lives.” Alex’s words were firm and powerful, and his determination burned like a flame, inspiring everyone present.

“Then we have no reason to stay any longer.” Barth raised his fist and slammed it heavily on the table, eliciting a round of applause in agreement.

They hurriedly left the tavern, and the entire town's residents spontaneously gathered on both sides of the street to see off these valiant adventurers. The children's eyes were full of anticipation, while the adults felt a complex mix of emotions—pride, blessings, and also worry.

"Look, those are the legendary heroes! Mom, I want to be like them!" a little boy shouted excitedly, pulling his mother's hand.

"May the gods protect you and bring back the light," an old woman prayed softly, tears welling in her eyes. Her husband had been an explorer who never returned home.

Traversing jungles and fording raging waves, Alex and his team face a dual test from nature and the forces of darkness. Each battle makes their names resound, but also makes them realize that the impending ultimate battle is no joke.

On a stormy night, they arrived at the entrance to the end of the world—a massive portal surrounded by ancient runes, silently suspended above the cliff, as if leading to another dimension.

"Is this... the end of the world?" The young mage's voice trembled in the wind. Even though he had seen many wonders, the scene before him still shocked him.

“Yes, our journey is coming to an end, but it is also a new beginning.” Alex stared at the door, his eyes filled with both determination and unease. He knew that behind the door lay an unknown future.

Just as they were about to step through the gate, an old and majestic voice came from all directions: "Warriors, you have shown fearlessness and wisdom, but the final test will reveal the deepest part of your souls."

The door opened by itself, and in a burst of dazzling light, a blurry figure gradually became clear—an ancient deity who guarded the balance of the world.

"To stop the disaster, you must confront and overcome your deepest fears in order to achieve true victory." The voice of God echoed in the void, as if striking directly into the hearts of everyone.

“We’re ready.” Alex stepped forward, his companions following closely behind without hesitation. They understood that this was not only a test of strength, but also a trial of will.

As they stepped into that radiant light, the world around them seemed to collapse and rebuild, and each person was transported to the abyss of their own heart, facing their own unique challenges.

Meanwhile, in the outside world, in the world saved by these heroes, people spread their legends in every corner, from palaces to farmhouses, from bustling cities to remote villages. Every heart silently prays that these brave travelers will return safely.

Around the fireplace in a small pub, several passersby were talking animatedly.

"Do you think they can really come back? That's a challenge that even the gods fear."

“If anyone can do it, it must be them. I’ve seen Alex in person; he has an charisma that’s impossible to ignore.”

"Let's hope so, after all, the future of our world now rests entirely in their hands."

At this point in the conversation, the tavern owner came over and gently added a few pieces of wood to the fireplace. The warm firelight illuminated everyone's faces, and she said softly, "No matter how it ends, they are already heroes in our hearts. And heroes can always create miracles."

In that bizarre and bewildering abyss of the mind, Alex found himself in an endless dark forest, surrounded by a suffocating terror. The trees twisted like the claws of a demon, and every step forward felt like treading on nothingness. Suddenly, a biting wind swept through, and a shadow slowly took shape in the mist—it was the rainy night when he lost his parents in his childhood; that loneliness and helplessness assailed him once more, more profound than any physical pain.

"You can't escape, Alex. This will forever haunt you." The voice echoed in his mind, both familiar and strange.

"I will no longer run away." Alex gripped his sword tightly. Even if the sword could not sever his memories, he would use it to illuminate the darkness ahead. He took a deep breath and bravely stepped forward, each step seemingly a reconciliation with his past self.

Meanwhile, Barth finds himself back in that disastrous battle, in the village he was powerless to protect, howling in the flames, each cry a test of his abilities. "Your strength is insufficient to protect anyone," a voice echoes from the ruins, laced with cold mockery.

Barth gritted his teeth, his hands clenched into fists, anger and resentment surging from the depths of his heart. "Perhaps I was before, but now, I will prove I deserve the name of a hero!" he roared, as if he could shatter all the negative emotions around him.

Each team member is undergoing their own trial. Some are confronting their past failures, some are facing their inner greed and desires, and others are battling despair and fear about the future. But no matter what the trial is, they no longer run away, but choose to face it head-on, proving their growth and determination through their actions.

As they overcame their inner fears and reunited before that enormous door, their aura was completely different; their eyes were more resolute, and their souls were elevated to an unprecedented level.

“We are back, God. Our fears have been conquered. Now, guide us to the real battlefield.” Alex’s words resonated deeply. He represented not only himself, but all those who had been tested and still chose to stand up.

The ancient god remained silent for a moment, then the door slowly rotated, revealing the other side—a continent shrouded in shadow, their final destination and the ultimate test of their destiny.

"Go forth, warriors. Victory or defeat, history will remember your names. But remember, what truly determines your destiny is your unwavering courage in the face of the unknown."

Just as Alex and his group were about to step through the door, a voice rang out from the outside. It was one of the passersby who had talked about them in the tavern, and somehow they had followed them here.

"Wait! Please take my blessings and the hope of the whole world with you. No matter how dangerous the road ahead, you are not fighting alone!" His voice was weak, but full of conviction, like that of millions of ordinary people cheering them on in the darkness.

Alex turned around and smiled slightly at the passerby. In that moment, it seemed as if all the light in the world was concentrated in his smile. "Thank you, and thank you everyone. We will bring the light back."

As the group stepped through the door to the unknown, everything returned to calm, with only the powerful promise outside the door echoing in the wind.

"Hope never dies, not until the very last moment."
