Chapter 183 Monsters

After several days of arduous travel, the group finally arrived at a small border town in the north. The town was already shrouded in the chill of early winter, and the snow-covered rooftops and streets appeared exceptionally quiet and solemn. The townspeople were both surprised and delighted by the arrival of this legendary group of messengers of light, and they gathered around, looking at them with curious and expectant eyes.

"Look, it's the messengers of light! I heard they can even defeat the monsters of the Sleeping City!" A middle-aged man wrapped in a thick fur coat whispered to the person next to him, his eyes full of admiration.

“It’s unbelievable. They look no different from us, so how do they have such power?” A child next to her looked up at his mother and asked, his eyes sparkling with longing for heroes.

The young woman in the group smiled and responded to the villagers' greetings one by one. Her voice was gentle yet powerful: "We all carry light in our hearts, and this power makes us fearless. And you are also a part of this power."

"So, what are your plans regarding the crisis in the north?" A hunter who seemed experienced stepped forward, his tone a mixture of worry and anticipation.

The girl looked around and said in a deep voice, "Our plan is to first understand the situation and find the source of that unknown power. But this is not just our battle; we need to know more, including the history and legends of this place, and any clues that may help us."

“History…legend…” an old man stroked his long white beard and slowly began to speak, “Long ago, there was a forgotten ancient altar here, said to be related to the power of the Frozen Lands. But its exact location has long been unknown to anyone.”

“An ancient altar…” the young mage murmured to himself, a glint of light flashing in his eyes, “Perhaps, the key to solving all of this is hidden there.”

"It seems we have a new target." The swordsman tightened his grip on his sword, his gaze resolute.

Night fell again, and in an inn in the small town, the team sat together, discussing their plans for the next day. Outside the window, snowflakes drifted down gently, adding a touch of mystery and tranquility to the adventure that was about to begin.

“If that altar is as important as the legends say, we must proceed with caution,” the dwarven craftsman cautioned as he drew up a possible route.

"Moreover, we cannot rule out the possibility that others are also searching for that place," the young mage added, tapping his fingers lightly on the table as he considered every possible variable.

"No matter what we face, we must remain vigilant and have faith." The girl's voice was calm yet powerful. "Remember, we are messengers of light, representing not only ourselves, but also those who trust us and await the light."

The next day, as dawn broke, the team was ready to set off. Watched by the villagers, they embarked on their journey to find the ancient altar. A trail of footprints was left in the snow, as if etching a path of hope across the frozen earth.

"I really hope they can find a solution," a villager standing by the hotel window whispered to the person next to him, his eyes full of blessing and trust in the messengers of light.

“They definitely will. They are the chosen ones of the Key of Light,” the other person replied confidently. The two exchanged a smile, their eyes revealing their anticipation for the future.

...And then, as the group marched on, a deep and mysterious voice suddenly echoed in the girl's mind: "Messenger of Light, your journey has only just begun... The true test lies hidden in the abyss of the heart..."

The sudden message startled the girl. She looked around but saw no one, only the puzzled looks of her companions. She pursed her lips, remaining silent, but inwardly prepared—no matter what challenges lay ahead, she and her team would move forward fearlessly, for they were messengers of light, sparks of hope, and an inextinguishable ray of light in the darkness.

"Let's keep going, no matter what awaits us ahead." The girl started walking again, her tone revealing an unwavering determination.

The group followed closely behind, each member quickening their pace without a word. On this vast snowfield, they were like a sharp arrow, aimed directly at the unknown challenges, while ancient prophecies about light and darkness were quietly unfolding, leading them towards an even grander adventure…

The team marched resolutely through the snow, the wind howling, but an inextinguishable flame burned in each of their hearts. They knew that only by finding the ancient altar could they uncover the truth behind the northern crisis.

After walking for a while, a villager hurriedly caught up from behind, panting as he shouted, "Wait, messengers of light!"

The girl stopped and turned around to ask, "What's wrong?"

After catching his breath, the villager said, "I...I have a friend who lives in a nearby mountain village. He said there have been some strange noises and lights in the mountains recently. You might want to go and take a look."

"Thank you, we'll be careful," the girl replied with a smile, then turned to the group. "It seems we'll have to take a slightly longer route; perhaps we'll find some clues there."

The young magician nodded, his eyes sparkling with curiosity and anticipation: "Then let's go and take a look at that mountain village first."

The group changed direction and headed towards the mountain village the villagers had mentioned. On the way, a young boy suddenly ran up to them, excitedly saying, "My Lord, Messenger of Light, I'm a hunter's apprentice from this village. I heard you're going to find the ancient altar, and I want to join you!"

The swordsman smiled slightly and patted the boy on the shoulder: "Your courage is commendable, but our mission this time is very dangerous. You should stay here and protect the villagers."

The boy was a little disappointed, but he still nodded and agreed: "Okay, I will do my best to protect everyone."

Upon arriving at the mountain village, the villagers were already gathered, waiting for them. An old woman walked forward shakily, took the girl's hand, and said, "Messenger of Light, many strange things have indeed happened here. At night, there are green lights on the mountain, accompanied by low growls. We are all terrified."

“Don’t be afraid,” the girl comforted her. “We will find out everything. Please tell us the specific route to the top of the mountain.”

An experienced hunter stepped forward: "I know a path that leads directly to the top of the mountain. It's a bit difficult, but it should be the fastest route."

"Then I'll trouble you to lead the way," the swordsman said gratefully.

The hunter nodded and led the group along the steep path. Along the way, they encountered several hungry wild beasts, but the swordsman easily dispatched them. The hunter praised the swordsman's skill highly: "Truly amazing! Such skill is rarely seen!"

The swordsman smiled modestly: "It is our duty."

By the time they finally reached the summit, night had fallen. They discovered a hidden cave, its entrance emitting an eerie green glow. The young mage cautiously approached, lightly touching the cave wall with his finger, his brow furrowed: "There's a strong magical fluctuation here; we must be careful."

The dwarf craftsman inspected the cave's structure: "This cave looks very sturdy and shouldn't collapse. However, there might be traps or mechanisms inside, so we need to be careful."

The girl took a deep breath and said resolutely, "No matter what, we must go in and see. The light guides us, and nothing can stop us."

The group lit torches and entered the cave one by one. The cave was dark and damp, with an inexplicable sense of oppression in the air. After walking for a while, they suddenly heard a low growl, and then a huge ice wolf pounced out of the darkness.

The swordsman swiftly drew his sword to engage, and after several rounds, the ice wolf was driven back. Taking advantage of the opportunity, the young mage cast a freezing spell, completely freezing the ice wolf.

"It seems there really is some secret hidden here." The dwarf craftsman wiped the sweat from his brow and continued on his way.

Deeper into the cave, they finally discovered the legendary ancient altar. The altar was covered with mysterious runes, and in the center stood a crystal ball that shone brightly.

The girl slowly approached and reached out to touch the crystal ball. At that moment, the deep voice echoed in her mind once more: "Messenger of Light, the true test is about to begin..."

The girl suddenly raised her head, her eyes resolute: "No matter what the trials, we will overcome them one by one. Because we are messengers of light, we will never give up!"

Everyone in the group felt a strange power. They gathered around, each placing a hand on the crystal ball. Suddenly, the crystal ball emitted a dazzling light, as if illuminating the entire cave.

"What's going on?" the young magician asked in surprise.

The girl smiled slightly: "I think we've found the key to solving the problem. But this is just the beginning; bigger challenges await us ahead."

The swordsman gripped his sword tightly: "Then let's face it together."

Bathed in light, the group resolutely marched towards the unknown path. And the ancient prophecies concerning light and darkness were quietly unfolding, guiding them towards an even grander adventure…

"Messengers of Light, the road ahead is long. Are you ready?" the dwarf craftsman asked.

The girl answered firmly, "We are ready. No matter how many difficulties and obstacles lie ahead, we will move forward fearlessly."

The team continued their exploration deep into the cave, facing new challenges, but they were prepared to meet them.
