Chapter 290 Morale

As Max and his men disappeared into the distance, the atmosphere in the village grew increasingly tense. The villagers busied themselves preparing various defensive measures, with Sofia personally directing the setting of traps and the reinforcement of the city walls.

"Hurry up, secure this stake!" a middle-aged man shouted. He and several others were working diligently to reinforce the city wall at one corner.

"Can this really withstand the enemy's attack?" another young villager asked with some doubt.

“At least it’s better than nothing,” an older woman interjected. “We have to hold out until reinforcements arrive, no matter what.”

Meanwhile, in the village's central square, a group of children were playing games, seemingly oblivious to the impending danger. A boy named Tommy looked up at the busy adults and asked疑惑地问道, "Dad, will we really beat the bad guys?"

His father put down the piece of wood he was holding, patted his son's head, and comforted him, "Of course we will, little Tommy. We will win because so many brave people are protecting us!"

Just as everyone was busily making preparations, Lia finally returned to the village, bringing some good news. "Several neighboring villages have agreed to send reinforcements," she announced loudly. Hearing this, many people breathed a sigh of relief, their morale instantly boosted.

"Great!" an excited voice rang out. "It seems we still have a chance."

But some pessimists shook their heads and sighed, "Who knows when they'll get there..." Someone immediately retorted, "You have to believe that miracles can happen!"

Just as hope and anxiety were intertwined, a scout rushed back to the village, panting, and reported to Istra: "The enemy seems to have changed their route! They are now taking a detour... This means we can gain more precious time."

Upon hearing this latest intelligence, Sofia smiled. "This is indeed a pleasant surprise for us. However, we can't let our guard down. We still need to speed up and complete all the preparations." She turned to the villagers who were still working and shouted, "Everyone, give it your all and make the most of this rare opportunity!"

Just when everyone thought the situation was temporarily under control, a seemingly insignificant but crucial detail came to light. "Water!" an old man suddenly exclaimed. "We absolutely cannot let the enemy cut off our water supply; that would be disastrous!"

Immediately, a commotion erupted around them, and everyone started discussing it. "We need to find a solution quickly!" "Yes, how can we survive without water?"

Faced with the sudden challenge, Sofia quickly made a decision. "Uncle Karl, please take a small team to guard the well; at the same time, dig a few new wells as soon as possible, just in case." After saying that, she turned to Istra for confirmation.

The latter nodded solemnly, "Let's do it that way. Safety first."

Night fell, and the entire village was shrouded in silence. But whether it was the elderly, women, and children holding the line, or the vanguard team members who were now stealthily moving through the forest, attempting to ambush the enemy—everyone shared the same belief: to fight for survival!

The next morning, Max and his team successfully located part of the enemy's stronghold. After a brief but tense discussion, they decided to launch an immediate raid...

However, just as they were about to take action, a strange feeling washed over them—as if they were being watched by some unseen eye…

"Strange... I didn't notice any creatures nearby just now," one of the team members said uneasily in a low voice.

Max frowned, glancing warily around. "Everyone be careful. We might not be the only force lying in ambush here..."

At that moment, two figures slowly emerged from the shadows of the bushes in the distance; they were the two who had been silently following them. "So that's how it is..." one of them smirked coldly. "Just as interesting as we expected."

What will happen next? How will these mysterious figures stir up the political landscape? All the answers seem to remain hidden in the unknown, waiting to be revealed.

Max and his squad quickly went on high alert, each gripping their weapons and watching warily as the two figures slowly emerged from the shadows of the trees. The appearance of these two uninvited guests added even more tension to the already tense atmosphere.

"Who are you?" Max demanded sharply. "Don't think you can fool us by hiding in the shadows and making small moves!"

One of the two newcomers spoke up, his voice tinged with amusement: "No need to be so tense, Captain Max." He smiled slightly. "After all, wouldn't helping each other in a time like this better demonstrate the power of unity? Besides, our goal is to stop this impending great battle."

A more taciturn-looking person next to him nodded in agreement. "But if we lack basic trust..." He was interrupted by his companion before he could finish: "Don't worry, we don't want to hurt you; on the contrary, we hope to work together to fight the real enemy—the dark force that intends to destroy this land and all life."

Upon hearing this, the surrounding team members exchanged bewildered glances. Although the explanation sounded plausible, who could be sure it wasn't a cleverly orchestrated trap?

At that moment, one of the more impulsive young men in the group couldn't contain his anger and launched the first attack: "What nonsense are you spouting! If you're so capable, show us some real action to prove yourself! Otherwise, don't blame me for using my weapon without any eyes!"

Seeing this, another teammate quickly pulled him aside and said, "Let's wait and see." At the same time, he turned to their leader for further instructions.

Max pondered for a moment, then decisively said, "In that case, let's observe for a while. But remember: eliminate any act of betrayal immediately!" His sharp gaze was fixed on the two people in front of him.

Faced with this situation, the person who had spoken more earlier did not panic or feel uneasy. Instead, he continued to respond in a gentle manner, "Don't worry, I won't let everyone down."

...

The scenes on the other battlefield were equally gripping.

As night fell, a strange and heavy atmosphere enveloped the entire village. Sofia stood on the city wall, gazing into the distant dense forest, where endless unknown dangers seemed to lurk. "Everyone must be careful," she murmured to herself.

"Yeah, it's a pretty strange day," the young man standing guard nearby chimed in. "Grandpa Karl just mentioned that the water problem needs to be solved. Now there's an unusual feeling in the air."

As the two were talking, a sudden gust of cold wind swept over them, followed by slight noises from all around. Instantly, everyone tensed up, as if they were facing a deadly danger at any moment.

Just then, someone suddenly screamed, "Look over there! Something is getting closer..."

Following the sound, several moving lights gradually lit up the pitch-black horizon, followed by the sound of horses' hooves pounding the ground.

"Damn it, the enemy has launched an attack ahead of schedule!" someone shouted from the crowd. Instantly, the entire village descended into chaos.

Just as everyone was preparing to take up their weapons and fight, an elderly but spirited soldier shouted to stop them: "Don't act rashly! We are not ready for a head-on confrontation; let's assess the situation first!"

Soon, these "unknown visitors" stopped less than a few dozen meters from the city wall. Leading them was none other than Leah, who had left earlier to seek help!

She jumped off her horse and rushed to the center of the crowd, announcing loudly: "Good news! More aid is on its way, and they promise to arrive by tomorrow morning at the latest! In addition, some friends have brought important supplies and information."

Upon hearing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief and began to cheer.

"That's great!" "We still have hope!"...

Morale soared instantly, as if all previous anxieties and worries had vanished.

However, just when everything seemed to be moving in a positive direction, in some inconspicuous corner, two pairs of eyes silently watched all the changes taking place.

"Is the time not right yet?" one person whispered.

His partner gently shook his head: "It's always worth waiting patiently. And the more crucial the moment, the easier it is to find an opportunity."

So how will the story unfold from here? What changes will occur with the arrival of new characters? All the suspense will remain until the future reveals the answer...
