Chapter 71 Ordinary

As night deepened, in a corner of the town, in a tavern bathed in dim light, guests chatted in twos and threes, their conversation naturally revolving around the mysterious and legendary couple.

"Have you heard? The Lightbringer and the New Woman are said to have recently helped the people rebuild their homes in a small village in the East. They say even ancient trees that have been withered for many years have sprouted new buds!" A simply dressed traveler said, sipping his wine, his tone full of disbelief.

"Oh, that's nothing! I heard from a caravan that they encountered a huge sandstorm while crossing the desert. They thought they were going to die, but then the Messenger of Light appeared out of nowhere and used his light to carve out a path to survival!" Another burly man with a full beard said, waving his arms exaggeratedly, which drew laughter from the crowd.

In the corner, a young scholar-looking man adjusted his glasses and slowly began to speak: "Based on scattered records from various places, I attempted to map their movements. Clearly, their actions were not random; they seem to be following clues from some ancient prophecy."

"A prophecy? That sounds far-fetched." The tavern owner interjected as she wiped the glasses, her gaze sweeping over the crowd, seemingly anticipating what would follow.

The scholar nodded, his tone serious: "Indeed, the prophecy mentions the final showdown between light and darkness, and a key figure or object that can determine the fate of the world. The Lightbringer and the New Woman may be preparing for this."

After these words were spoken, the tavern fell silent for a moment. Everyone silently pondered the news, their faces displaying a variety of expressions, including surprise, anticipation, and doubt.

Just then, the tavern door was gently pushed open, and a gust of cold wind rushed in, interrupting the contemplation inside. Outside stood a weary traveler, his eyes gleaming with an unusual light in the dim light.

"The Lightbringer and the New Woman you speak of... I have seen them." The traveler's voice was not loud, but it was enough to draw everyone's attention.

"Oh? Tell me quickly, how did you meet them?" the bearded man urged impatiently.

The traveler slowly entered the tavern, found a seat, looked around, and then slowly began to speak: "It was in the ruins of an abandoned ancient city. I wandered in because I got lost, and happened to witness them fighting a group of monsters. I had never seen such a battle before; light and magic intertwined, breathtakingly beautiful. After it was over, the messenger of light personally guided me and told me that everyone has a seed of light hidden in their heart; the key is whether we are willing to let it take root and sprout."

"What a lucky guy!" someone in the crowd whispered enviously.

“Yes,” the traveler sighed, “but I’ve always remembered what he said: ‘In this world, the most powerful weapon is not the sword, nor magic, but the hope and perseverance in the human heart.’”

These words were like a warm current, warming the hearts of everyone present. They began to talk about the "light" in their hearts, and the atmosphere became warm and cozy.

Just as the conversation was heating up, a melodious song suddenly rang out outside the tavern. The tune contained indescribable encouragement and comfort, as if it could pierce through the cold night and reach the depths of the soul. Everyone got up and went outside to look, only to see the moonlight shining on the empty street. The song seemed to come from all directions, yet there was no trace of it.

"It is them... the messengers of light and the new woman, somewhere again, giving people hope with their songs and power," the traveler murmured, his eyes shining with an unprecedented light.

"How is that possible? Are they really that close?" The burly man with the thick beard scratched his head in disbelief, looking around as if hoping that the legendary duo would suddenly appear in the tavern.

"The world is full of wonders. Perhaps it is their power that allows us to feel warmth and hope without even realizing it." The young scholar pushed up his glasses, his eyes sparkling with curiosity and a thirst for knowledge.

“Hey, don’t just talk the talk, we have to do something too. After all, we’ve participated in this legend.” A woman dressed in hunting attire stood up, patted the short knife at her waist, and looked determined.

“Yes, although we are not as powerful as the Lightbringer and the New Woman, we can still shine in our own little world.” The tavern owner put down the rag in her hand, a gentle smile on her lips. Her suggestion was met with approval from everyone.

"It's easier said than done. Where should we begin?" a young man with a bookish air asked, his furrowed brows revealing his inner confusion.

"Start by helping those around you, even if it's just a small thing," the traveler suggested softly. His words were simple yet profound, prompting everyone present to reflect.

Just then, a child suddenly ran into the tavern, panting and with a flushed face. "Everyone, the bridge at the village entrance was washed away by last night's torrential rain. Many people can't cross the river to go to town to buy things, and they're in a real hurry!"

"See? The opportunity has come." The woman in hunting attire took the lead, striding out of the tavern, followed closely by the others, an invisible force drawing them together.

After a night of hard work, the group not only repaired the bridge but also erected a sign at the bridgehead that read: "Light in our hearts, hope with us." Passersby were amazed and discussed the sight.

"I never imagined that such ordinary people could do such great things."

"Yes, the Lightbringers have given us inspiration that everyone can be a light for others."

"Yes, it seems I should also take action and make some contribution to our town."

As the sun rose in the east, golden rays bathed the rebuilt bridge, and a group of busy figures stood out brightly in the morning light. A traveler stood by, watching all this, a faint smile appearing on his lips.

"Lightbringers, new woman, look, even the smallest flame can illuminate a corner of the world. Our story has only just begun."

"Yes," a gentle voice rang in the traveler's ears. He turned around abruptly, only to see a ray of warm sunlight piercing through the clouds, while the legendary heroes continued their journey in the distance.

"Thank you for showing us so many more possibilities." The speaker was the tavern owner, who stood at the bridgehead, her eyes filled with gratitude.

The traveler smiled, turned to look at the distant mountains, his heart filled with hope and determination. "Each of us is the protagonist of our own story. As long as there is light in our hearts, we can illuminate the way forward."
