Chapter 121 Forbidden Forest

"Change? Perhaps, it's the definition of light itself." The old man beside him leaned on his cane, gazing into the distance with a meaningful smile on his lips. "In this world shrouded in darkness, they are not only warriors searching for the key, but also guides igniting the flame of hope."

“Yes, every time I hear their stories, I feel like I can do something to change my own life.” The little girl reappeared, clutching a worn notebook tightly in her hand—the notebook where she recorded everything about Alex and his friends. Her eyes shone with an unprecedented determination. “I want to be like them, to bring hope to others.”

The old man patted her head affectionately. "Child, everyone has a key to light in their heart. The key is when you choose to pick it up and illuminate your own path."

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Forbidden Forest, Alex and his companions faced a vast desert, the only way to reach the location of the third Key of Light. The desert was ravaged by sandstorms and scorching under the blazing sun, testing every traveler attempting to traverse it.

"The desert, this is truly a test." Bart wiped the sweat from his brow, gazing solemnly at the boundless yellow sand.

“I remember an ancient legend that the desert holds the trials of guardians, and those who pass will receive guidance.” The young mage flipped through the information he had copied from the ancient book, a hint of excitement flashing in his eyes. “If this is true, then our journey will be added to its legendary tale.”

Alex gazed into the distance, his eyes resolute: "No matter what lies ahead, our goal remains unchanged. As long as we are together, there is no difficulty we cannot overcome."

Their desert journey was far from peaceful. They got lost in a sandstorm, ran out of water, and even encountered a legendary monster from the desert. But through their wisdom and teamwork, the three always managed to find a way out of seemingly hopeless situations, and their story spread far and wide among travelers.

"They encountered the Sand Demon in the desert. I heard it was a thrilling battle. The Sand Demon's attacks were like a storm, but they managed to trap the monster with a clever plan." A caravan leader shared the story he had heard by the campfire, and the people around him listened with fascination.

"The Sand Demon? That's a force that even armies dread. How did these three young people manage it?" Some exclaimed in amazement, while others were filled with admiration for the three's abilities.

At the edge of the desert lies an ancient ruin, said to be a testing ground left behind by ancient messengers of light. There, they not only face the trials of the guardians, but also the desires and fears within their own hearts.

"This is our ultimate test. If we pass through here, we will be one step closer to the light." The young mage stood solemnly before the gate of the ruins.

Alex gripped the Key of Light tightly, exchanged a glance with Barth, and a unspoken trust flowed between them. "We are ready, for the light, and for all those who await us."

Within the ruins, they endured countless trials. Each victory was not merely an external triumph, but also an inner elevation. Finally, in a grand hall filled with sacred light, the third Key of Light lay quietly at the center of the radiance, awaiting its inheritor.

"Finally, we did it." Barth was panting, but he couldn't hide the excitement on his face.

“But this is just the beginning; the road to light is still long.” Alex walked toward the key, his figure elongated by the light, as if foreshadowing his becoming an even greater being.

"Yes, light needs to be spread, and even more so, it needs to be protected." The young magician sighed softly, his eyes filled with boundless anticipation for the future.

Just as they were about to pick up the key, a long and mysterious voice echoed in the hall: "Heirs of Light, the real challenge is about to begin. When the tide of darkness surges in, are you ready to become the true guardians of light?"

The three were taken aback, then exchanged a smile that contained fearlessness in the face of the unknown and a persistent pursuit of light.

"We are ready, for this continent, for the light in everyone's heart." Alex raised the Key of Light, declaring to the voice, and also to the world.

As their vows echoed in the hall, the curtain slowly rose on a new era, changing the destinies of countless people. All of this began with the unwavering faith and pursuit of light by three young people.

"It seems that there will never be a shortage of brave people on the road to light." On the edge of the desert, a traveler looked up at the starry sky, his heart surging with unprecedented passion. "They are destined to write a legend."

“You’re right, brother.” The young travel companion beside him nodded in agreement, his eyes shining with longing. “Alex and the others are like the brightest stars in the night sky, guiding us forward.”

“Yes, I’ve heard that even the nobles in the capital are talking about them.” A merchant carrying a bag joined the conversation, his tone tinged with disbelief. “It’s said that someone in the palace has proposed erecting statues for these three heroes to commemorate their heroic deeds.”

The discussion among the crowd gradually heated up, with everyone expressing their admiration and expectations for Alex and his group in their own way.

On the other side of the desert, Alex, Bart, and the young magician ventured deep into the ancient ruins. The walls of the ruins were inscribed with the wisdom and teachings of their ancestors, and every step they took made them feel the weight of history and the solemnity of their mission.

“These words tell of the sacrifices and perseverance of the messengers of light,” the young magician read softly. “They also faced the invasion of darkness, but never gave up their belief in the light.”

“Yes, we should be like them, and no matter what difficulties we encounter, we must not lose sight of our original aspirations,” Alex said firmly.

As they explored deeper, suddenly the ground trembled, and a massive mechanism activated, separating them into different rooms.

“Is this… a separation trial?” Barth looked around and found that each room was filled with challenges to be faced alone.

"It seems we each have to confront our inner fears." The young mage took a deep breath, gripped his staff tightly, and prepared to face the impending trial.

Alex's room was filled with hallucinations, in which he saw himself failing in various desperate scenarios, surrounded by endless ridicule and accusations.

"You are ultimately just an ordinary person, how can you become a guardian of light?" The voice in the phantom was cold and ruthless.

“I admit that I am mortal, but it is precisely because I am mortal that I cherish the light even more!” Alex firmly retorted, shattering the last illusion with the Key of Light and proving his determination.

Barth's trial was completely dark, so dark that he couldn't see his own hand in front of his face. He could sense the danger lurking around him, but he couldn't see the enemy.

“Courage is not fearlessness, but moving forward in the face of fear,” Barth murmured to himself. His steps did not falter; with keen perception and unyielding will, he walked step by step out of the darkness.

The young magician's challenge was temptation; countless treasures and illusions of power were presented before him, promising him unparalleled magic and status.

"True strength comes from inner purity and unwavering commitment to justice." He closed his eyes and focused his mind, rejecting all temptations, which made his spirit even stronger.

When the three reunited in the central hall, their faces radiated a sense of peace and strength that came from overcoming their own limitations.

“We’ve all passed, now—” Before Alex could finish speaking, the entire ruins began to tremble, a dazzling light rose from the center of the hall, and the third Key of Light floated in the air, releasing warm and powerful energy.

"The true path of light has only just begun." From within the light, a phantom figure gradually appeared—an ancient messenger of light. "Inheritors, darkness is coming, and you will be the last line of defense against it."

“We are ready,” the three answered in unison, their voices filled with determination and strength.

As they received the Key of Light, an unprecedentedly powerful force surged into their bodies, and at that moment, the entire ruins seemed to cheer for them.

"Remember, light lies not only in power, but also in the heart." The image of the messenger of light faded away, leaving behind a profound admonition.

As they emerged from the ruins, the desert sky seemed brighter than ever before, and travelers could feel the radiant light emanating from within from afar.

"Look, it's them! Alex and the others are back!" Cheers erupted from the crowd. Their return gave everyone unprecedented hope and strength.

"What should we do next?" Bart asked, his eyes burning with a thirst for battle.

Alex gazed into the distance, where dark clouds were gathering, foreshadowing an impending storm. "What we need to do is bring light to every corner, so that all those living in darkness can see hope."

The young magician smiled, his fingers gently tracing the Key of Light: "Moreover, we are no longer fighting alone. So many people who believe in the light are with us."

The three stood side by side, their shadows stretched long in the setting sun, forming the most impenetrable defense in the world.

"Darkness, come forth. We will show you the power of light." Alex's words were both a declaration and an invitation, setting the stage for this epic battle between light and darkness.

Around the campfire, a bard recounted the beginning of this legend to the crowd, and his last words ignited a burning fighting spirit in everyone's hearts:

"When the children of light join hands, even the deepest darkness cannot stop the dawn from coming."
