Chapter 77 Relics

“But what I want to know more about,” another child squeezed into the circle and asked curiously, “is what power that relic holds that made the country so powerful?”

"Who knows? Maybe it's ancient magic, or some magical tool that can control the weather!" a child exclaimed, eliciting laughter.

"Hey, I heard there are a lot of monsters and traps on the way to find the relics. How do they deal with them?" A timid child shrank his neck, but his eyes were full of admiration for the warriors.

"Jack has a sword, the scholar has wisdom, and Uncle Merchant might be carrying secret weapons we don't know about!" The little girl defended them confidently, as if she had already witnessed the heroic deeds of these men.

As the sun set, the children's chatter drifted away on the breeze, while the town's elders continued similar conversations in a nearby teahouse.

"This team is more energetic and more hopeful than we were back then," a veteran who had participated in many expeditions remarked, holding a teacup.

"Yes, especially that Jack. He's an outstanding swordsman and has a strong will. I really hope to see him achieve great things." An old hunter next to him chimed in, a hint of nostalgia in his eyes.

"That young scholar is not to be underestimated either; the power of knowledge is sometimes sharper than swords." An old scholar stroked his beard, his expression full of anticipation.

Just then, the teahouse door was gently pushed open, and a traveler in tattered clothes walked in. He looked around and asked in a low voice, "Excuse me, have those chosen warriors already set off?"

The teahouse fell silent instantly, everyone's curiosity piqued by the stranger's question.

“Yes, we’ve been gone for quite a while,” the veteran replied, gesturing for him to sit down. “Why are you so interested in this?”

The traveler sighed, a complex light flashing in his eyes: "I was a member of that failed expedition many years ago. We failed to find the relics, and many people perished as a result. But I've always believed that the relics exist more than just a legend. Now, seeing a new generation bravely step forward, my heart is filled with renewed hope."

A hush fell over the teahouse as everyone processed what had happened. After a moment, the veteran patted the traveler on the shoulder, his voice steady and firm: "This time, there will be a different outcome. Because they not only have courage, but also the unfulfilled dreams of all of us as their support."

The traveler nodded, gratefully. "I believe it too. Perhaps it's time for me to contribute some of my old notes; maybe they can help them."

As night deepened, the town slowly returned to tranquility, but a fire seemed to burn in everyone's heart. While the warriors searched for the relics, everyone in the town supported the adventure in their own way, eagerly awaiting the heroes' triumphant return.

"May they succeed, and may their stories inspire many more who follow."

Night fell, the crescent moon hung low, and a gentle breeze rustled through the treetops in a dense forest on the edge of town. Jack, the scholar, and the merchant uncle sat around a campfire, enjoying a short rest. Though their faces bore the marks of travel fatigue, the light in their eyes remained undiminished.

"Do you think that relic can really bring peace?" Jack gently rested his sword on the ground, his eyes sparkling with longing for the future.

The scholar pulled an ancient book from his backpack and smiled slightly: "History is always full of miracles, and countless legends are not unfounded. If this relic truly possesses extraordinary power as recorded in the ancient book, then it may indeed be the key we need."

The merchant roasted a piece of dry rations by the campfire and said seemingly casually, "The secret weapon I brought is actually an ancient map, which marks some shortcuts and refuges that no one before us had ever noticed. On this journey, we will not only rely on force and wisdom, but also on luck and the guidance of our ancestors."

Just then, the silence of the night was broken by a series of hurried footsteps. A young messenger ran up to them, panting, and handed them a letter: "It's news from town, urgent!"

Jack quickly opened the letter, and after reading it, his eyes became more serious: "A person claiming to be a survivor of a former expedition is willing to provide his notes from back then, which may be crucial to our search for the relics."

The scholar's eyes lit up: "This is good news. Perhaps we can find key clues to avoid the mistakes of our predecessors."

The businessman, ever shrewd, said, "However, we must be careful. The mystery of the relics has attracted too much attention; someone might use this opportunity to set a trap."

The next morning, the three arrived at the address provided in the letter in front of a dilapidated hut. Pushing open the door, they found the traveler sitting at a table covered with yellowed notebooks and maps.

“Welcome, young man.” The traveler’s voice was weathered, but his eyes revealed determination. “I hope my notes will help you succeed. Here are illustrations of the monsters we’ve encountered, as well as clues to some unsolved mysteries.”

Jack flipped through the precious documents, his heart surging with indescribable excitement: "Your help is so important to us."

"Don't forget," the traveler's tone suddenly turned serious, "the power of relics is great, but they must be treated with caution. The wars and disasters they once caused are mistakes we must not repeat."

As the sun slowly rose, the three embarked on a new journey, their hearts filled with both a yearning for the unknown and a sense of responsibility. The townspeople emerged from their homes, watching them go and whispering amongst themselves.

"Look, there are the warriors who have gone to search for the relics!"

"Jack, your swordsmanship is superb, you're really cool."

"The knowledge of scholars will definitely come in very handy."

"Uncle Merchant, I never expected him to be hiding such a secret."

Just as everyone was discussing the matter, a child pushed through the crowd and shouted, "Brothers and sisters, we must find the relics so that our town can become a better place!"

Jack turned around and smiled brightly at the child: "Don't worry, we will bring back hope."

As their figures gradually disappeared into the distance, the town returned to its usual tranquility, but a seed of hope was planted in everyone's heart, anticipating the return of the warriors and their recounting of that legendary adventure.

Several days into their journey, Jack and his companions encountered an unprecedented challenge. They discovered a hidden cave in a treacherous canyon, its entrance carved with ancient runes, seemingly one of the clues to the location of the relic. Just as they were about to explore, a violent earthquake shook the ground, and a group of strangely shaped rock monsters emerged from underground, blocking their path.

“It seems we are not alone.” The merchant uncle analyzed calmly, clutching the ancient map tightly in his hand, searching for a possible way out.

"Prepare for battle!" Jack commanded, drawing his sword and standing ready. The silver blade gleamed in the morning light, and his eyes were resolute and unyielding, as if no difficulty could stop him.

The scholar quickly flipped through his notes, searching for effective strategies to combat these creatures. "These rock monsters are said to be afraid of water; if we could find a water source..."

Before he could finish speaking, an elderly farmer who happened to be passing by witnessed the scene. He exclaimed, "My God! This power is simply incredible!" He stopped in his tracks, his eyes filled with awe, and turned to the surrounding villagers, saying, "Look, this is the pride of our town, a true hero!"

Upon hearing this, the villagers stopped what they were doing and gathered around at a distance to watch, their voices rising in discussion:

"Look at Jack, wielding his sword like the wind, he's truly brave and fearless!"

"A scholar's composure and wisdom are what truly make him formidable."

"Uncle businessman always manages to surprise us at crucial moments; it's truly enviable."

After a fierce battle, Jack and his companions, relying on their wisdom and courage, cleverly used the current of a nearby stream to defeat the rock monster and continued deeper into the cave. Deep within the cave, a mysterious light caught their attention; the relic lay quietly in the center of the light, radiating a soft yet powerful energy.

Just as Jack reached out to touch the relics, an old and dignified voice rang out: "Young people, you have shown extraordinary courage and wisdom, but the real test has only just begun."

The voice came from an old man hidden in the shadows, whose appearance startled everyone. The old man slowly stepped out, holding an intricately carved staff, exuding an extraordinary aura.

"You are..." The scholar asked with a mixture of doubt and awe.

“I am the last guardian of the relics,” the old man explained. “The power of the relics needs to be guided by a pure and innocent heart and the right intentions, otherwise it will only bring disaster.”

After a sincere conversation, the old man finally confirmed Jack and his companions' resolve and allowed them to return to the town with the relics, on the condition that they promise to use the power of the relics to serve justice and peace.

The moment they returned to town, the entire town erupted in celebration. People surrounded them, and flowers and applause filled the air.

"Welcome back, heroes!" an elderly man with white hair shouted.

"Look at them, they've come back with their belongings!" The children jumped excitedly, their eyes sparkling with boundless anticipation for the future.

"Jack, you did it!" The little girl excitedly pushed through the crowd, her eyes filled with admiration. "The future of this town will be changed because of you!"

Jack looked at the villagers surrounding him, a surge of warmth and responsibility welling up inside him. He held up his belongings, his voice firm and full of hope: "This power belongs to all those who have dreams. We will protect it together, so that our town and the world can usher in true peace and prosperity."

During their conversation, Jack and his two companions exchanged smiles, their eyes revealing a tacit understanding only they could comprehend. Their story became the most widely circulated tale in the town, inspiring generations to dare to explore and pursue the light.

"Our journey has only just begun..."
